It’s ok sometimes to let a player go to free agency. Porcello wouldn’t bring back much in a trade anyway. But more important, any trade of Porcello leaves an even bigger hole in an already underperforming rotation and becomes a white flag on the entire 2019 season. Which probably means Dombrowski gets fired. (You don’t spend a quarter of a billion dollars to give up at the midpoint without repercussions.) Which I think he might not want.
The Sox aren’t going to sell. Dombrowski is like George Clooney in “The Perfect Storm.” He’s going to just ran this ship forward full speed ahead right into that oncoming tidal wave. Hopefully with better results.
And if not, maybe Dombrowski can take some solace in the fact that Clooney then went on to make “O Brother Where Art Thou?”, which was a much, much better movie. Wait. Where was I going here?
