  1. I bet the Patriots never say things like “why can’t we learn from the Patriots?” If there is a downside to the mega-dynasty that is the New England Patriots, it’s the constant call for everyone else to follow their example. Know why the Sox don’t learn from the Patriots? BECAUSE IT ISN’T THAT EASY!! If it was, don’t you think maybe an NFL team or two might have done so by now?
  2. f***ing stupid rule. But it does kill job opportunities for the pitchers Jeff Passan used to call “is left-handed, has pulse”...
  3. Three if you count Roenis Elias...
  4. Well he did hire an agent at some point, and that agent’s job is to minimize that pay cut...
  5. 1. Walden’s Magic Carpet Ride appears to be coming to a stop. And he does have one option left. 2. Taylor is the only lefty in the bullpen and has been pitching better. 3. Brewer has actually gotten better as well. But demotion isn’t out of the realm of possibility for him at some point.
  6. My guess is Walden and either Hernandez or Taylor. Unless the Sox do something drastic like DFA Nunez...
  7. I think he might have to return to form or take a substantial pay cut to stay in Boston. But at the very least, they shouldn’t trade him this month just because...
  8. He did give up Willy Adames, but then Adames was only 18 at the time and a lot could have happened. But I don’t think losing Disabled Drew Smyly hurt Detroit. In fact, I think Smyly might have actually gotten injured in the deal somehow...
  9. It’s ok sometimes to let a player go to free agency. Porcello wouldn’t bring back much in a trade anyway. But more important, any trade of Porcello leaves an even bigger hole in an already underperforming rotation and becomes a white flag on the entire 2019 season. Which probably means Dombrowski gets fired. (You don’t spend a quarter of a billion dollars to give up at the midpoint without repercussions.) Which I think he might not want. The Sox aren’t going to sell. Dombrowski is like George Clooney in “The Perfect Storm.” He’s going to just ran this ship forward full speed ahead right into that oncoming tidal wave. Hopefully with better results. And if not, maybe Dombrowski can take some solace in the fact that Clooney then went on to make “O Brother Where Art Thou?”, which was a much, much better movie. Wait. Where was I going here? Oh yeah. Keep Porcello...
  10. No but the entire premise does involve NOT waiting until an asset is at its absolute lowest value before deciding to sell...
  11. The Padres can acquire any pitcher they want. Any reason you think they need to settle on Porcello?
  12. I’m guessing you don’t day trade for a living...
  13. If teams want to shift, let them shift. Let them move all 7 fielders to the same side of 2b if they want. Left-handed hitters will just have to learn to go the other way. If you hate Launch Ball, letting opposing teams over shift is part of the remedy...
  14. Per that trade simulator, a package of Stroman (26.8) and Giles (10.7) wouldn’t get either Tucker (63.1) or Whitley (48.2) at gunpoint. And that’s not even factoring in how unenthusiastic Houston would be about re-acquiring Ken Giles...
  15. Most fans hate announcers who don’t overtly fellate their team and players...
  16. You might be thinking of the wrong Bieber...
  17. A trade of Stroman and Giles for Casas, Duran, Dalbec and Hernandez gives each side exactly 37.50 going each way, is a package more in line with what Toronto would likely want, and bankrupts the Sox farm in a way DD prefers to operate...
  18. One thing no simulator can account for is how much Team A wants the player from Team B. I don’t doubt the equality. I do doubt Toronto’s desire to make that deal. But in my own little fantasy world, DD made it yesterday....
  19. Well luckily for you babies stop pooping around 6 months...
  20. Now a trade of Benintendi and Shawaryn for Giles, Stroman and Teoscar Hernandez actually comes out spot on equal at 59.50 going each way...
  21. I believe he said Benintendi or Chavis. Sending Benintendi instead flips the trade strongly in favor of Toronto...
  22. Yes. The extra years of control are a big factor. Stroman has a trade value of 26.8. Giles of 10.7 Chavis has 12.1. Hernandez has 5.1. Shawaryn has 0.9. So it’s 37.5 to Boston but only 18.10 to Toronto. Even adding Jarren Duran (8.8) doesn’t even it up...
  23. Per the trade simulator, the Sox come out far ahead in that lopsided deal, and it doesn’t even allow me to put in Castillo and his (certain to be) negative value...
  24. It can. Check it out. It’s fairly thorough as far as websites go...
