  1. He was throwing 97-98 in the first inning yesterday...
  2. They can dump Nunez and Pearce, but I don’t think they can save any money doing so....
  3. Don’t hold your breath. Maybe one more relief pitcher...
  4. Velasquez has options, but who is off the 40 man? My top candidates are Ryan Weber, Josh Smith, and Joey Curletta. Weber and Smith are both extremely likely to clear waivers if the Sox want to resign either...
  5. Now all the Sox need to do is fix the guy at the front of the rotation...
  6. Short term maybe. But even one year later I don’t see the Angels crying over Ian Kinsler...
  7. Well it’s still early. July 31 is typically a nonstop news maker right up to the official deadline...
  8. I wouldn’t be surprised if another one year deal was reached. But it doesn’t mean anything with regards to Mookie liking or disliking Boston. Some players view free agency as something they’ve been working for their entire lives...
  9. If they managed to get Urias and Verdugo, is 2019 over?
  10. As long as you can differentiate between those frustrated with Mookie and those who realize that under the right conditions moving him could make sense. I am all for dangling Mookie for the right package. Trading a superstar almost never brings back equal value, but in this case, it might be worth simply because it is possible to bring him back after 2020. As it stands now, 2019 is looking like a challenge to repeat. So you just lose the one season. And if the right pieces come back (I’ve suggested Urias and Verdugo from LA, which might be light), the Sox could still be competitive in 2020 and (if Mookie returns) potentially unstoppable (ok maybe not) in 2021. It’s not going to happen. But it’s not the worst idea...
  11. Not every start means a player is being showcased...
  12. And maybe the Sox can kick in a few runs to counter that ERA...
  13. Even if the Sox keep Benintendi, what will the 2021 outfield look like?
  14. But I agree, despite LaRussa’s comments on Yahoo, that the Sox are likely to look at rentals. Or someone no one has considered, like Anthony DeSclafani...
  15. The attrition rate on prospects in A ball is pretty high
  16. That’s because you forgot the “Not A Yankee” factor...
  17. The only stopping point there is how stingy the Astros get with prospects sometimes...
  18. Now Betts plus Casas might blow them away. But would anyone be willing to pull that type of franchise-altering trigger?
  19. The Mets, per MLBTR, have said they’ll only deal Syndergaard if they get “blown away” by the offer. Benintendi plus Casas is far from blowing them away...
  20. It’s probably some Chris on a Yankee board. Davis would have only qualified if he refused that offer...
  21. But what if your name is Chris and you are a crazy, half-witted, retarded, idiotic simpleton? There has to be at least one out there somewhere...
  22. Pawtucket does appear to have very little talent. If Darwinzon Hernandez ever finds the strike zone regularly, he might be the only player on the roster capable of making an impact in MLB. There are a few pitchers who will make the majors as low leverage relievers, all of whom have made their MLB debut already except Kyle Hart. Pawtucket has no position players who look like MLB starters to me, and at best may have a bench bat or two. Chad De La Guerra has been the breakout star so far, but he’s a utility infielder at best. Sort of a lesser version of Tzu Wei-Lin. I like Cole Sturgeon as a fourth outfielder, but like De La Guerra, he’s getting a bit old. Beyond that, a bunch of career minor leaguers who will probably never see the 40 man roster. Portland has a few more interesting players, but that team really isn’t exactly loaded either. Dalbec and Chatham look good. Netzer has a shot. I think Duran is overrated but he’s certainly a potential player as well. Pitching is tough to project, but I think Mata, Reyes, and Houck should all make MLB. Feltman has been a disappointment.
  23. Maybe they did, but it wouldn’t be enough...
  24. But none are rentals. They’ve been connected to Boyd and Syndergaard...
  25. Then stop September roster expansion. Managers will learn to manage their bullpens properly for the other 5 months.
