  1. That seems like a bad idea. Either you put too many potential key IP into the hands of lesser relievers or you end up potentially needlessly using better relievers and not having them available for subsequent games. Just get a fifth starter...
  2. If I were his agent, I would advise against opting out until after 2020, when his salary drops by about $4mill. He might opt out, as it is possible JD wants some control over his destination. I can’t speak for him there. However it’s also possible he wasn’t so thrilled about the nearly league-wide lack of interest last time he was a free agent...
  3. That’s good news for us for 2020. Because there was pretty much no way to fill the gaps on this team adequately with the maybe $6mill or so they’ll have after all the arbitration cases. It also keeps Bradley in play, although he’s still an uncertainty. It’s good to hear the dedication to keeping Betts. The Sox certainly could get a good return for him. But in no way do they get an equal one. I do wonder if JD Martinez is on the market. Again, I don’t expect a great return here. But it should still be a positive.
  4. I gave up at the time. Isn’t that the same thing?
  5. Actually it’s not. The phrase “at the time”’ means the exact opposite of his chosen word “ever.” Just remember. Bellhorn nominated you and dragged you into this..
  6. His original statement did not say “at the time” and simply said “only team ever.”
  7. We've disagreed across multiple forums by now. Hope we post at each other again. But now you've got me contemplating a break as well..
  8. Baseballtradevalus.com does think he still has significant trade value. Not enough to get Gavin Lux. But currently he is about equal to Dustin May or Keibert Ruiz. Hardly a restock, but it does mean a new number one prospect for Boston. It is only one expensive season, but it is also likely to be an 8-10 fWAR season...
  9. Many others? In the postseason, the other wins against the Yankees went to Sale and Eovaldi.
  10. It’s tangentially related at best. For most of the season, it seems like your bigger concern is with Red Sox fans as opposed to Red Sox. You can say it’s all in fun all you want, but that doesn’t make any of it less true. Old school or new school is a matter of preference. But you spent the majority of the season in Poster Critic Mode, going so far as to say fans have no business talking about resets and WAR and other stats, and how fans like me are killing baseball. So should we all apologize to you for not liking the game the way you want us to? If you don’t need anything explained to you, then I have no idea why you still get on people for “trying to save John Henry money.” Seriously. It’s a stupid comment. We all know how wealthy he is, but we also saw that the spending can and will stop at some point. Most of us did, anyway. Not sure why this was lost on you, or especially after two slow off-seasons followed by a slow trade deadline and a ton of stories about how DD was going fired and the spending was going to stop. Also the million or so posts in this board explaining that the spending does have limits. Did you miss those? Maybe you were out circling the block then?
  11. It is. Thank you. That means a lot coming from you. After all, it seems like you stopped talking about baseball a while ago and instead decided to focus on the content of other people’s posts. Whether you’re using the Nerdwell’s to denigrate them, or commenting that they must want to save Henry’s money, or calling them an “idiot with an audience and a keyboard”, or telling them they’re not subjective. When did it stop being about baseball to you?
  12. Congrats, Denny. On your most clueless post ever!!! I didn’t think you could do it, you know, since the premise of posts like that have been explained to you only about a million f***ing times. But here you still are!!
  13. Not really. They’re on the way up and in the AL Central...
  14. In jest, yes. But fun to see how far it is from reality. Now if the Pale Hose are interested in JD Martinez, I do hope the Red Sox are interested in Reynaldo Lopez...
  15. So Wittemeyer holds it against Epstein that Theo didn’t spend more than he was allowed to? I want to be there when Wittemeyer turns in his next expense report to his boss...
  16. l According to baseballtradevalues.com, that deal would have to be slightly modified. If the Sox substitute Antonio Flores for Dalbec, that package would be sufficient to acquire Eloy Jimenez alone. To get the package you want, the Sox would need to ship the four players you mention to Chicago, and also include Rafael Devers and Tristan Casas...
  17. When evaluating a team, wins and losses matter. But they don’t when evaluating a player...
  18. I think that by trying to add on to dgalehouse’s point, you went further into proving it...
  19. I doubt the Sox - or most teams - will have 7 better options in the bullpen. I think the foundation for the 2020 pen includes Workman, Barnes, Hernandez, and Taylor. If anyone else makes it, Marcus Walden has a chance, although he is more likely to be the 2020 version of Ryan Brasier. ( Love to see the Sox trade career minor leaguer Walden for career minor leaguer Mike Yastrzemski.) Hembree might be offered arbitration and make maybe $2mill. Brewer lost his biggest fan in DD. Wright should be non-tendered. And hopefully we’re seeing the last of Brian Johnson...
  20. So you’re going to argue DD didn’t trade away any major talent? Less than two years ago, you tried arguing about the potential future of Bryce Brentz...
  21. I would say Taylor, while not great, was a pleasant surprise...
  22. It’s not even about the amount. Too many try the “if I did that at work” arguments. It’s a different world. Normies like us can’t compare our situations to MLB players, but by the same token, it isn’t right when we get judgmental of theirs...
  23. His entire point was not to tell other people what they do and don’t need financially. Uncle Rico is accusing Mookie of being excessively greedy. They all are. Every owner. Every player. Every agent. It’s just a big deal with Mookie because he’s good enough to actually get crazy levels of money. If, say, Mitch Moreland turned down a $200mill extension, we’d laugh and let him walk...
  24. All of MLB is a couple thousand people who fight over several billion dollars. They’re all greedy; that’s why CBA’s exist...
  25. You asked what players the Sox traded away could be useful to the team this year and next. I named them. It wasn’t about undoing trades or division titles or blaming anyone. What prospects could the Sox have used. End of question. And considering nearly everyone the Sox have traded made the majors with the majority having some success, it’s a long list. Also I forgot to mention Jalen Beeks. Not sure why you feel it so necessary to put words into other people’s mouths to make your point, but it was nice to be lumped in with JD, Porcello, and Sale. Although how you know them to be stand up guys is another matter. Also are you saying you wouldn’t trade JBJ for Mike Trout?
