  1. Drinking water spiked with Stanislozol?
  2. But even using technology has been done for years, even before the whole Apple Watch incident...
  3. Does MLB even punish sign stealing? So many teams have been caught, but what's the worst thing that happened to any of them?
  4. We took forever to impeach Bud Selig. Seriously, how was that man allowed to be MLB Commisioner?
  5. Maybe the plan is to have Pedroia DH in NL parks..
  6. Only AJ Preller knows for sure. I'm not even sure the Sox could actually get the package I proposed. All I can tell you is it does work out using the valuation system on baseballtradevalues.com. But any team can label any player immovable or have a much higher value on any prospect for whatever reason. And it fits the package that Matt Cerrone (who is not affiliated with the Red Sox in any way) says they want. Now, accroding to baseballtradevalues, Margot has slightly less surplus value than Franchy Cordero, so he could be an acceptable substitution. Or if the Sox could eliminate Quantrill, they could get better prospects, like 1B Josh Naylor and one of LHP Adrian Morejon or C Luis Campusano. I actually prefer Cordero to Margot. But I can see the merit to either choice...
  7. Where did you find that? I found nothing that says anything remotely close. But my research was admittedly very cursory...
  8. From very brief internet research: Apparently it depends on the jersey, etc. But for licensed jerseys, the MLBPA gets 11-15% and divides it EQUALLY among the members. The rest goes to the manufacturer and retailer. For unlicensed jerseys bearing the player's name but no official team logo, the player does get a royalty. The upshot seems to be that Red Sox get nothing from Betts' jersey sales. All they get is the money for leasing the space to the retailer if it is sold at Fenway Park...
  9. One very likely possibility is it has never come up anywhere but this message board. don't forget. Mitch Moreland was on board long before JD was a member of the Red Sox. Why would it have come up in the media?
  10. But who says he is reluctant? Maybe the whole situation has never come up
  11. Or JD is heading to the outfield, where he has lots of experence...
  12. I'm expecting Mookie to be a Padre, as San Diego 1) has 40 man roster issues and 2) has already issued a statement that they will be packaging prospects in order to upgrade the MLB roster. Per Matt Cerrone, the Red Sox asking price for Betts is two good prospects, an outfielder to replace Betts, and a mid-rotation SP. If the Sox deal with the Padres, they might be able to get RHSP Cal Quantrill (mid-rotation SP), OF Franchy Cordero (the outfielder to replace Betts), 2B Xavier Edwards and LHP David Weathers (the two good prospects). San Diego would get an MVP-caliber outfielder and free up some 40-man roster space to protect other prospects from the Rule 5 draft. The Red Sox get their potentially unrealistic trade demands. And Betts gets to live for a year in San Diego, which is something everyone should want. Win-win-win...
  13. Aren't jersey sales property of MLB anyway?
  14. He’s not going to DH. If he plays, it will be 2b. He won’t be the Laser Show anymore, but all he has to be is better than Marco Hernandez, Tzu-Wei Lin and Michael Chavis. He may or may not be able to do even that...
  15. Ever know anyone who got the moon?
  16. I wouldn’t say Trout is the greatest ever, but I have said many times he will be among them. At some point in the future, anyone talking about Ruth, Mays and Aaron will find themselves saying “ Ruth, Mays, Aaron and Trout”...
  17. It’s taken from the last line of the Muller Report.
  18. While Larry cannot prove Pedroia fractured the clubhouse that year, he does not exonerate him either...
  19. Mostly because White Sox GM Rick Hahn wouldn’t trade Kopech and Jimenez for one year of Betts even if you kidnapped his children and put it in the ransom demands. I think that while the Sox can get a good package for Betts, the right to pay Mookie nearly $30mill for one season only might not be the insanely attractive carrot many think it is (including whoever reported a lot of the offers above)...
  20. I won't go that far. Trout is 28 years old and has been worth 73.4 fWAR in his career. Betts is 27 years old and has been worth 37.4 fWAR in his career. I'm doubtful Betts can bridge the 36 fWAR gap in a single season, even if it is his option year...
  21. Just wondering if you disliked Kershaw and Bigbie for violating that code. Especially Bigbie. Definite code violation, but if you dislike steroids in the game, the guy gave up his career to do what he could to get rid of them....
  22. Well, there is that...
  23. Completely unrelated, but I always though this was fascinating JD Drew ages 31-34 with Boston: .270/.377/.476 (.853 OPS) Dwight Evans ages 31-34 with Boston: .266/.372/.477 (.850 OPS) Is it possible to find two more similar hitters at the same ages who played the same position for the same team for a four year stretch?
  24. No idea what else would have to be included, if anything. FWIW, baseballtradevalues.com gives Devers a trade value surplus of $129million and Soto a surplus value of $132million, meaning a 1 for 1 swap is actually close enough to equal. But Soto has that whole "World Series Hero" thing going on, and trading him away, even for Devers, would make Nats GM Mike Rizzo the second most unpopular man in DC...
  25. Of course he will. He’s 36 years old. He doesn’t need to be as good as the 2007 version of Pedroia. He just needs to be better than the 2020 versions of Marco Hernandez, Tzu-Wei Lin and Michael Chavis...
