  1. If nothing else, it’s the cost to sign him today. Offer him Trout money and he extends. Maybe. But once he hits the open market, it just becomes best offer. And if best offer is, say, Manny Machado money, then maybe that’s what he signs for...
  2. Yeah that shiny new manager smell is rapidly turning into some cheating restgate stank..,
  3. So clearly a couple teams were cheating even more effectively...
  4. And maybe they did tell JDM just that, but haven’t found a taker. It’s not like he was a popular target at this salary when he was a free agent. They could have non-tendered JBJ. And they can still cut him in early ST...
  5. For starters, it was only possible when the Sox has a runner on 2b...
  6. That’s why he’s only 99.99% certain. But we should assume someone in the Sox FO would have an idea if this was true or not due to conversations with Betts’ agent. And if it is true, does it affect Betts’ availability this month?
  7. Too much of the plan depended on being able to dump some rather deep underwater contracts. No simple task...
  8. Yes. It’s not possible to prove any other alternative...
  9. It is possible they figured the postseason had too much scrutiny and they feared getting caught again. Or, since it’s always former players who rat these scandals out, they figured someone would talk eventually...
  10. I think Henry treated Dombrowski like an ex-girlfriend. He got back together with him because he had fond memories of the titles, pennants and great sex. But once they were back together for a while, the honeymoon effect wore off and the titles stopped coming, and then he remembered why they broke up in the first place...
  11. He did. While Ben’s plan was likely more long term, he probably promised a better ROI as well. He didn’t spend nearly as much, but he might have been in better favor had he not signed two of the three worst free agents in team history in Pablo Sandoval and Rusney Castillo...
  12. Well, was having some of the highest payrolls in MLB history necessary? Henry might have signed off on a lot of these deals, but I can guarantee he was promised a better ROI than he got in 2018 as well...
  13. They’ve been ripped on MLB radio by multiple hosts. But honestly, isn’t this a fairly typical off-season for them? Since Friedman took over, how many splashy off-seasons have they had?
  14. And the debate is obvious. Do we still win it all in 2018 if we don’t make all those trades? (But then I counter with Eovaldi extension arguments and win the debate.).
  15. He had no value long before we traded him...
  16. I did too. I thought DD was building a power bullpen. I was NEVER high on Shaw, and at the time, would have done it over the expensive Kimbrel trade...
  17. Might have gone with 3 and let Swihart focus on other positions. But this year, Plawecki is fine but not exactly irreplaceable...
  18. Exactly. And actually,I don’t blame Dombrowski for the Thornburg Flop. Shaw wasn’t some sort of core piece, and it was nice to see DD trying to shake his “ignore the bullpen” rep for once. But the combination of huge deals and farm-depleting trades have left this team in a bad spot where they are looking to shed salary. The whole point in keeping a few was to make it that much easier to keep players like Betts. This shouldn’t even be a matter for debate...
  19. I had (and really, still have) no problem sticking him on the bench...
  20. 1. I made the same Taylor/Swihart mistake before. That’s how I knew it. I’m going to play wait and see with Wilson. He had a surprising surge starting midseason in AA and maybe there was some sort of epiphany moment for him. 2. Actually, and I was surprised to see this - Matt Chapman has a higher career OPS+ (127) than Arenado (122). And as he also beats him on just about every defensive metric, maybe Matt Chapman really is the best all around 3b...
  21. Jeffress is the one who might be damaged goods. Milwaukee released him last year after rosters expanded and they had no real reason to clear the space. Possible indication of a serious physical problem...
  22. The simulator takes money into account. So someone like Albies who signed an insanely undervalued contract is a more valuable trade chip, but it doesn’t make him a better player..,
  23. We got Taylor for Deven Marrero, which is even better...
  24. Trout is the only player better than Mookie. Maybe one day (soon?), Acuna, Bregman, and/or Soto can achieve that rank...
