  1. The biggest issue with Vadez to me is that his FIP shows his ERA might be a bit of an illusion, and he was worse with FIP than Mazza, Covey and Stock. He might not be the slam dunk he appears to be upfront...
  2. The biggest obstacle with Cora is more likely to be that he will could other offers, whereas some of the other candidates like Kotsay and Quatraro might not garner as much league-wide interest...
  3. That’s fine. Brice was really the only obvious question mark on his prediction. And even if they do non-tender him, it does very little to impact the overall picture he’s painting...
  4. I could see that, as they have 10-12 players where the 40 man roster spot is more valuable than the player. Some of the non-tendered crowd could potentially be brought back on MiLB deals. None of them figure to garner significant interest around the league...
  5. So Smith assumes the Sox are tendering a contract to Austin Brice?
  6. World Series or not, whoever signs Bauer is going to hate his deal at some point. Just like you Yankee fans will with Cole and did with ARod. But free agency isn’t about titles and timing. It’s about PR and ticket sales (normally). The “timing is right” on Bauer or anyone similar when 1) he’s available and 2) you can afford him. End of story. I don’t care if they pass personally...
  7. An embellished story. Gibson started the inning and loaded the bases himself and was charged with 5 ER in 1 IP. He did give up a grand slam to Pete LaCock that inning. I’ll assume the Old Timers day story is true...
  8. Not necessarily. If you want an ace pitcher, you get one when one is available. Not all free agents are signed solely because a title is within reach...
  9. Cora was banned for a year in April of 2020. Does that mean he cannot be hired anywhere until April of 2021?
  10. I believe Ted Williams also lost a batting title to Geroge Kell that way, which cost Ted a Triple Crown,,,
  11. But there i a difference between accepting that cheating is widespread and overtly condoning the activity by hiring a known offender. But baseball fans are very fickle when it comes to cheating. With steroids? Suspicion is enough!! But throw a few spitballs? OK. Admit throwing spitters? That's ok too. tThrow tons of spitballs and admit it and win 300 games, get elected to the Hall of Fame and go on to write an autobioghraphy where you not only admit you used the spitball in the title of the book, but you give it top billing over yourself? Yea, fans are cool with that...
  12. True, but only because he passed away 9 years ago...
  13. Fine. I wanted to go wqith Head East, but how many know that song? But those who do know it is one of the best...
  14. Without looking it up? Nope. I wasn't born yet. But I m guessing none of the then-active greats like Robinson, Oliva, Carew, Mantle or Killebrew are the answer...
  15. LOL Nice save. So a cheap offer hurts his pride, but no offer is respectful? JBJ is not going to take a cheap deal with Boston if everyone else is offering him more. Don't worry about his feelings...
  16. I’d actually be surprised if Benintendi was traded, despite my repeated predictions that it happens...
  17. On that list, I keep Stock, Puello and Wilson. But I think I could DFA the suspiciously absent Phillips Valdez...
  18. I hear because of Kyle Hart, they’re thinking of moving it back up. (Gibson wasn’t solely responsible for lowering the mound. Pitching over all was. Carl Yastrzemski lead the AL with a lowly .301 BA, and didn’t even face Gibson that year)...
  19. Sort of like saying Stealer’s Wheels was better than the Beatles. Just a one-hit wonder, but a damn good one...
  20. The money difference shouldn’t be worth it to sign Jake Marisnick or Juan Lagares. If you want dirt cheap defense, just sign Billy Hamilton. But the money/offense differential might be worthwhile for Michael Taylor. However, Bradley is a known commodity over multiple full seasons. There’s a balance to be struck...
  21. And they drafted/signed neither of them. Alcantara was acquired (with Zac Gallen) by trading Marcell Ozuna to the Cardinals. Sanchez was acquired in the trade that sent Realmuto to the Phillies. They also have Pablo Lopez (acquired from the Mariners for David Phelps), who might be the best of the three...
  22. I’m on board with Marlin Mania...
  23. So Sox needs: SP: ? SP: ? (Depending on ERod) RP: ? RP: ? 2B: Arroyo? (Thinking they don’t spend here as Pedroia is still technically alive, active and under contract.) CF: Bradley? LHH: Brad Miller? (Calling this slam dunk early.) Fill in the gaps as we go...
  24. One Super Bowl? The Marlins have played 7 postseason series. And are 7-0...
