  1. He’s not. Also my wife didn’t recognize him from 350 feet away. You’re not the test here...
  2. Well then even if we don’t bring back Mookie, we should send the Dodgers a Thank You note...
  3. How are you defining clutch here? Reggie has an .885 OPS in 318 postseason plate appearances spending 16 seasons. ARod has an .822 OPS in 330 postseason plate appearances spanning 17 seasons. Not a big difference in that respect. And really, you’re picking Hall of Famers. The clutch hitter argument was that there were no players who “excelled in clutch situations” compared to their non-clutch plate appearances. A guy with a .900 OPS in clutch appearances and a .910 OPS in non-clutch ones does come through in the clutch, but he isn’t dispelling the myth. He’s just awesome. Find me the average hitter who comes through repeatedly in the clutch “above and beyond” his normal abilities. And it’s probably not a guy in the Hall of Fame. More like someone like Pat Tabler, who is the closest I have ever found to doing this..,
  4. Me too. The main argument against him is his post-season track record. But it's 330 plate appearances spread out over 17 years. And he had some very good post-season series. Because, rankly, he was just flat out good...
  5. I'm picking him first in my fantasy league...
  6. I think most people knew about this guy https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=russel001kur
  7. Yeah to me that always felt like more of a statement about the manager than A-Rod...
  8. Funny Canseco steroid story. Back in 2001, I sued to go to a lot of White Sox games, because tickets were cheap and remarkably easy to get. Sometimes, we wound up sitting in the RF seats back back when the decks were so steep it was literally like climbing a ladder to get from row to row. But hey, twelve dollars. I went with my wife, who is legally blind (some vision has been restored since 2001). The only player she could recognize from the RF seats was Jose Canseco, because he was simply that much bigger than everyone else on the field. I thought "THAT should be the steroid test. If my wife can recognize you from 350 feet away by the size of the blur, you are CLEARLY on steroids."
  9. He is an extremely clean, and extremely funny stand up comedian. If you have Netflix, he has about 5 or 6 specials streaming there. He is also a contributor to CBS Sunday Morning. And recently, during the quarantine, he has been streaming "Dinner with the Gaffigans" on Youtube where you can watch weirdness of him having dinner with his wife and 5 young children...
  10. Yeah that's how I came up with it. That's why I was wondering who else everyone knows about that I don't...
  11. It depends. His salary does drop by about $4mill after this season. If they play actual baseball and he still has it, he’s walking away from 2 years and $38.7 mill. He might be able to top that in free agency...
  12. ... unless JD opts out.
  13. If all the games are played in Florida and/or Arizona, weather becomes much less of a factor in playing into November and really, even December...
  14. Maybe someone like this guy... https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=cuomo-001mar Who knew?
  15. For some I guess. I mean I watched plenty of college football and I was surprised to find out Jim Gaffigan played at Purdue...
  16. I'm trying to create some new, senseless trivia-based stuff to keep some dialogues interesting but without any real emotion. The difference on the other one was lookng for succes stories. Here, just maybe some minor league ball players of college football players more successful that so few realized even played...
  17. Man. No activity on this thread?
  18. That’s what makes him so remarkable!
  19. But did they figure on 2020 Grapefruit League MVP Alex Verdugo?
  20. For a guy whose career got off to such a slow start, he did have an enviable one...
  21. Wow. Surprising. RIP
  22. Who are some famous folks or celebrities you were surprised to find out were Division 1 college athletes or maybe even professional athletes? I think my two most surprising ones were Joel McHale, who played football for University of Washington, and Jim Gaffigan, who played football at Purdue. Any other names?
  23. I think it’s based on a real story. The only change was it was a guy, not a dog...
  24. “Come to the Dark Side. We’ve got Air Bud movies.”...
  25. Were there illicit substances involved? Stoners will watch anything if they’re indulging...
