Well, we have already gotten a bit of a preview. Brad Hand was essentially a non-tender. There may be better options than you think available. What if any of the following get non-tendered: Trevor Williams, Andrew Heaney, Sean Manaea, Steve Matz, Zach Davies, Vince Velasquez, Archie Bradley, Matt Boyd, Carlos Rodon, Reynaldo Lopez? During a normal (re:non-pandemic that has ticket sales) season, all of those pitchers are no-brainers to be tendered deals. But then, during a normal season, picking up Brad Hand's $10mill option is also a no-brainer. I bet more than one name from that list becomes available on December 2nd...

Six Rule 5 pickups might be an unprecedented amount and most probably would not be much of an upgrade if one at all over many of the 12 players you'd be DFAing.

The Sox 40 man roster has 10 players on it I would consider expendable. Weber is probably the highest-ranking (re: least expendable) of those 10. The other 9 are - in no particular order - Mazza, Springs, Hall, Brice, Walden, Valdez, Stock, Hall, and Hart. If someone wants to say another player like Wilson or Aybar is more expendable than Weber, fine. Not really worth arguing about as to which AAAA player is the better one. Bottom line is there is a lot of deadwood at the bottom of this roster that can probably be purged (and re-signed to MiLB deals if need be) in order to clear the space for the Sox worthy Rule 5 eligible minor leaguers and a few acquisitions...

Really no bad choices there. Also Mazza and Valdez. Weber was just an example of how high I would go. I think the Sox easily keep Weber over the other six...

I did the MLBTR free agent contest. My picks for the Sox were Odirizzi, Quintana, Porcello, Hand, Wong, and Miller. I don't think they sign all 6, but I think I can get 3 of them...

But the Sox need to address a massive pitching defiency. The free agent market offers very little in the way of starters after Bauer. The non-tender market might be better than usual, but still won’t have the caliber of pitcher the Sox need. The trade market might be ripe, but the Sox do need someone to trade. If not Downs, who?

By that logic, Tampa made a mistake by acquiring Randy Arozarena, since they already had two established centerfielders in Kiermaier and Margot. Stockpiling prospects is not a bad strategy for Tampa. They would have very little difficulty flipping Downs or dealing Brujan...

Also what elixir did Correa drink that will magically transform him from the injury-prone klutz that he is today and has been since 2015 into a player worth investing in like he has a 150 game season in his future? Or do the Sox sign Correa and use his downtime to showcase CJ Chatham?

Bogaerts. So here is the conundrum. Bogaerts signed the extension with the Sox when he was ONE YEAR away from being one of, if not THE top name on the free agent market at the ripe old age of 26. And he is a Boras client. I can still hear echoes in the wind from Scott on that day. “ Xander, don’t sign. I said don’t sign. DON’T. Xander... Xander. Put down the pen. We’re all friends here just put it down. I can help you. Please let me help you. PUT DOWN THE f***ING PEN!!!..... Oh Xander. You’re dead to me.” So - and maybe it was the World Series High - but Xander signed. And as you clearly just read, against the advice of his agent. So my question to you is - what is it about Boston that will make Bogaerts want to leave but also make Correa want to come?
