  1. If a player's contract goes to arbitration, the team has to somehow concoct an argument that said player is NOT worth the money he is asking for. Using another player as a comp is not uncommon. There is really no way to do ti without creating an argument that the player is going to like and agree with. This type of argument the Sox created is inherent in the process, but the Boston press makes it sound like they were the first team ever to do such a thing. Like every other player to come to arbitration was met with "We say you're only worth $X", and then replied with "OK, you got me."
  2. If its one, its too many...
  3. Yeah. That’s high on the list...
  4. Eovaldi lacks durability in a big way, but Perez made 109 starts in last 4 years before coming to Boston.
  5. No on Ockimey. You can probably get a LHH platoon (Murphy? Shaw?) cheap enough...
  6. K:BB was the main talking point of poster JoeBreidey/JoeBrady and is a great evaluation tactic for hitters and pitchers. But in the minors, age and levels matter, too. But the bottom line is you don’t immediately write off a 25yo who failed to dazzle in 20 ABs just so you can fast track a 19yo in A Ball...
  7. 1) That approach is pretty standard. 2) The Sox did offer him $20 million and $25 million in the last two seasons. That’s gotta take some sting out of that hearing...
  8. While Mookie never did, he certainly heard lots of other African American ballplayers say them...
  9. Casas has all of 500 plate appearances in the minors over his career. So far all he’s done is face A ball pitchers. Dalbec is much, much, much more likely to make this team and contribute. These are not even wildly differently ranked prospects. Prior to the 2020 season, BA had Casas at 70 and Dalbec at 75...
  10. The game threads are dying...
  11. Well, if the Sox and Mookie split the difference, we do know at $365 million, money was no longer an obstacle...
  12. Really? You’d cut Dalbec after 18 at-bats? Sure, he’s hitting .111 now, but he’s also one 4 for 5 day away from respectability. And then fast track Casas? What happens if Casas starts out 2 for 18 in MLB?
  13. Well, there is no doubt Bloom was Dumpster Diving. No GM ever has had Mike Kickham or Robert Stock as part of Plan A. Or B. Munoz is a good player, and possibly a capable starter. But he might be crazy, and not as good as he thinks he is. Remember, we only have him because he quit on the Cardinals and stormed out of camp over playing time, which is a tad extreme reaction from a player with a career .723 OPS...
  14. And no one knows why they put Downs in AAA. Unless they meant Jerry Downs. Was it Jerry or Jeter? Or Jerry Jeter?
  15. Next AApril through AAugust, Mr. Doesn’t Read Thread Titles...
  16. Downs has 12 games in AA. Even August might be a bit too early...
  17. Hey, I told you earlier, he is a frontrunner for 2B in 2021...
  18. Since no one likes Benintendi any more, maybe he could be dealt for a 2b? Benintendi to Pittsburgh for Adam Frazier?
  19. Pitching will certainly take precedent. But that doesn’t mean the Sox can’t spend some cash anywhere else. I don’t think 2021 will be the debut of Hudson Potts or of Jeter Downs...
  20. Actually Dalbec just turned 25 in June. But he is at an age where he goes from prospect to suspect rather rapidly. Casas is 20 and has never played above A ball. He’s not an option for 2021. But he is better than Chavis. Oldtimer, you’re going to seize your engine changing gears that fast. Let’s let Dalbec have a chance larger than 15 at bats before we write him off. You know, like the Moncada example I cited. And let’s let Casas play AA ball and maybe even AAA ball before we give him 15 at-bats and decide to look elsewhere, too...
  21. I’ll set the over/under for number of pitches it takes the Blue Jays to score 5 runs at: Mazza - 22 Hall - 30
  22. So I was listening to The Happy Hour on MLB Network radio, and they were talking about this season's freeagent class. They mentioned that a lot of options previously thought to be no braimers were potentialyl not going to be picked up this off-season. Most of them, like Danny Murphy ($12mill/$6mill buyout), Brett Gardiner ($10mill) and Edwin Encarnacion ($12mill) did not intrigue me much. But they did mention Kolten Wong ($12.5mill / $1mill buyout). If Wong is available, he actually might be a nice fit for the Sox at 2B/leadoff hitter...
  23. He was also a BA#1 overall prospect. He’s a good player, but I think some expected a better one with his pedigree. But then he’s also still only 26...
