    It’s a simple site that compares future values of players based on projected performance and salary. It’s a simple model, and basically it says “the more money a player makes, the harder he is to trade.” Not sure why so many try to criticize this simple model and think they have better ones. Teams themselves undoubtedly have their own models, but I bet they don’t function all that much differently...

    Why get both Pillar and Marisnick? I could see Almora (BABIP-fueled bounce back/breakout?) over one of them. But if the Sox need a 4th OF, Arroyo or Chavis can be used to push Kike out there...

    Hernandez has averaged 248 PA/fWAR over the past 3 seasons. Jurickson Profar has averaged 271PA/fWAR over the past 3 years. Both players received $7mill AAV, but Hernandez got fewer years despite performing slightly better...

    So add RP/CL - Colome? CF - Marisnick? Pillar? Almora? DeShields? Danny Santana? Maybin? Brian Goodwin? LHH BN - Moreland? Miller? Shaw? Jake Lamb? Santana? Derek Dietrich?

    Probably worth noting that soxprospects.com thinks Houck is now in the rotation at Worcester, which actually makes sense. The Sox are going to need depth starters with this rotation...

    I do like the idea. But the Sox also need relief pitching. Although adding Richards could help by pushing Houck to the pen. If the Sox sign Porcello, maybe Pivetta to the bullpen?

    Reportedly the Pirates want upside in this trade and not MLB proximity. So maybe Dominguez is headed to Pitt? (Don’t sweat it Yankee fans. In 8 years or so he will reach free agency and you can sign him back.)

    Taillon would be a great get for any team. While BTV gives him a relatively low value, JT’s combination of ability, years of control, and age could help a lot of other teams get involved and make him a tough acquisition. But unlike Castillo, he won’t cost Torres..

    Ok but the Sox still need a reliever (or two, IMHO) and a CF. Now if the $30 mill budget was accuate, that leaves $13 mill plus whatever was deferred in Hernandez’ deal...

    During that first off-season when Theo used the phrase “bridge year”, he also signed John Lackey. But a lot of people got caught up in the phrase itself and made it a much bigger deal than it ever should have been..

    Not me. Now if they signed him for 6 years $150 mill, I’d call Bloom on it....

    The conundrum is that good players can get so expensive, teams can only afford so many. A team with a good farm system can afford more of them as they would have more minimum wage players. But the Sox do not have that luxury. So have they reached their current limit of $20mill+ players? I think they have 3 in Bogaerts, Martinez and Sale...
