And it is also possible that Bloom is waiting to see if DD (or whoever, really) gets the Angels' job and fires Maddon, who is Bloom's former manager, and whose name does carry sufficient PR weight. (Chicago hired him solely for that reason, even firing newly hired Rick Renteria to accommodate Maddon.)
The one point I would find makes very little sense is passing over Gibbons solely because it was an interim position. If Gibbons was the guy he wanted, there is no point in waiting it out, especially since it leaves the possibility of Gibbons getting another position elsewhere. If he actually liked Gibbons, he would very likely already be here...
