  1. You sitting in the prison seats? And if Will Ferrell makes another movie like Bewitched, he should be incarcerated, too...
  2. Crisp was acquired via trade with the Guardians for the late Andy Marte, who had just been acquired from the Braves for Edgar Renteria, who was a free agent. So I guess there is a chain...
  3. Yes. Wrong JD. My own cerebral autofull just types "Martinez" after JD nowadays, which is why the Sox cannot acquire JD Davis...
  4. JD Martinez for 2007
  5. Do not forget Uehara, indisputably the best free agent signing Cherington made...
  6. Then stop doing it...
  7. A salary ceiling and floor has been proposed multiple times...
  8. Exactly. That statement also described Friedman when he was there. No way he signs Mookie to that contract to play in Tampa...
  9. Is there a site where one can apply for that job?
  10. Nah. That's normal for birds. The females drop into the background and look at that colorful plummage while thinking "Ok, he is definitely doable, if he doesn't get eaten by a hawk first."
  11. It's hard to say much about the guys who played before I was alive, since all I can do is look up stats. But my only question on that list would be Sammy White over Bill Carrigan. I have no idea who was better defensively. Both hit similarly. But I can give Carrigan some extra points for managing the team while he was the catcher...
  12. Even with his late season flop, I could see Preller taking Moreland back for another year at his current option price. It's not like that team has Lou Gehrig manning 1b...
  13. Moreland is a notorious fast starter. His careerOPS by month: March/April: .817 May: .849 June: .774 July: .642 August: .829 September: .659 Outside of an annual mid-season surge in August, he tends to drop off dramatically after hot starts nearly every year...
  14. Defensive stats are pretty much non-existent prior to 2003, but offensively the top two Red Sox catchers in OPS (200 PA min) are actually Victor Martinez and Mike Stanley. However, both played a lot of 1B and DH for the Sox, so I can see leaving them out. Martinez only caught 133 games and Stanley only caught 120 games...
  15. OK, no more Little League/Cupich rants...
  16. I know. Here in Chicago, we had that Jackie Robinson West Little League team that made a big splash in the Little League World Series 6 years ago, until someone discovered the kids were recruited from out of region. I will never figure out why someone would want to cheat to try to win the Little League World Series. After that team was disqualified, Cardinal Blaise Cupich of Chicago tried to speak out in favor of the team by comparing them to the Super Bowl Champion Patriots, who had their own scandal, with Cardinal Cupich saying "Both teams cheated and only one was disqualified. As far as I can tell, the only difference is one team is black." Which leads to a few interesting questions: 1) Had Cupich ever seen the Patriots? Yes, Brady, Gronkowski and Edelman were not black, but they did have other players. Lots of them. 2) Is he really trying to justify cheating by saying "But someone else did it?" Remember, this man is a Cardinal. Not a priest. Not a bishop. A Cardinal. As in , one step below the Pope. And of course 3) It's the #$%^#!! Little League World Series! Why are you comparing it to the Super Bowl? Is race really the only difference here?!!?
  17. It does pose a good question as to why Pittsburgh cannot support an MLB franchise. It's always just been a given that they were a small market team, but their situation is not the same as in Tampa, where a huge chunk of the local population is dsplaced New Yorkers who all have a previous alliance to the Yankees...
  18. LOL Nothing like a Little League coach who delves into playing psychological games with 10-12 year old hitters...
  19. No, I waited until birth to begin my fandom. As a fetus, I liked hockey more, but then I grew up...
  20. Maybe he sees the same thing he saw in Tyler Glasnow, who had an ERA+ of 71 in 141 IP with Pittsburgh. Pivetta is a bit older at the time of the deal and lacks Glasnow's prospect pedigree, but he had an ERA+ of 78 in 396 IP with Philly. So expecting the same level of turnaround is probably unrealistic...
  21. Typically I say it about those long term David Price-esque contracts that give you maybe one or two seasons of productivity and then become a contractual anchor that drags the team to the bottom of the ocean. I have always said the years bother me more than the money. If the Sox paid Trevor Bauer $40 mill for one year, I'd be ok with that. But if they paid him $200 mill for 6 years, I'd be voicing my concern on this forum the day the deal was signed....
  22. I say that all the time...
  23. Why not? The Pirates get top picks all the time..,
  24. Cora carries both positive and negative PR...
  25. To be fair, I don’t think anyone on that list is getting a big contract...
