  1. I think a 2 year $12mill deal works out for both sides. Really, the only question to me is, do they just go with Duran in CF and dedicate more money to pitching, both starting and bullpen...
  2. In other postseason news, today the White Sox played the team's first ever winner-take-all postseason game in the franchise's 120 year history...
  3. It isn’t if you don’t throw strikes...
  4. 1. Jackie won’t be in the same tax bracket as Mookie 2. No one goes to Detroit on their own unless paid HEAVILY to do so.
  5. Too late...
  6. Or financial, which is the most likely answer,,,
  7. The Dodgers also called up the largely forgotten Dan Bankhead later that same year, making Bankhead the first African American pitcher in MLB and the first African American to hit a home run in his first at-bat...
  8. While he did not play this year, David Price was still technically a Dodger. Betts might have been the only African American on that team, but he knows very well that is for this season only. At a minimum, Price will be back next year. And LA doesn't carry the same reputation as Boston in that regard. Torii Hunter never said he would not sign there (and he did sign in neighboring Anaheim). Ditto Adam Jones. Carl Crawford did not have the same complaints about fans in LA that he did about fans in Boston. In fact, historically, the Dodgers are the team that brought up Jackie Robinson. So here we are 73 years later, the the 1947 Dodgers had more African American players than the 2020 Red Sox. What you said about the state of the game is correct, but it is not the issue, and the existence of fringe talents on Boston's system like Marcus Wilson and Josh Ockimey are unlikely to change anything...
  9. There isn't, but whether or not it is a factor would not be something new for Boston...
  10. Possible Bradley wants to join Mookie in LA. That team could easily re-arrange their defense (Bradley to CF, Bellinger from CF to 1B, Muncy from 1B to 3B, Turner from 3B to free agency) to accommodate him...
  11. I think they will. As does soxprospects.com. Of course, a lot of this operates on the assumption that Bradley wants to stay at all...
  12. I think the entire market isa big question mark right now. Bradley might be very highly regarded around the league as opposed to by Sox fans. We've seen that before, most notably with JD Drew. A commentor on MLBtr best summed up that situation by saying "The only people who don't think Drew isa good player are Red Soxfans." With Bradley, I think it comes down to exactly how many teams are spending and how he is viewed against some of the similar alternatives, a list that will include Kevin Pillar, Michael Taylor and Jake Marisnick. And there will be other options, including likely non-tender candidate Juan Lagares and potentially available Kevin Kiermaier (owed $25.8 mill over the next 2 years) Even at that lofty price, Kiermaier's acquisition could still result in a net lower amount depending on who goes back to Tampa...
  13. Good name for a non-descript band...
  14. I can see non-tendering that whole crowd...
  15. It was enough to get Pillar, who is a very similar player...
  16. I am surviving, but it's not really living...
  17. Did they name names for the non-tenders? As far as I can tell, they don't even have that many questionable players up for arbitration. Soxprospects.com's own 40-man roster page only lists 12 players eligible, and five of them are Devers, Rodriguez, Barnes, Brasier and Pivetta, all of whom I would consider likely to be tendered, with Devers actually being definite. I certainly could see Peraza, Godley, Triggs, Weber, Covey and Brice all being non-tendered. Plawecki is possible, too, I suppose...
  18. No. I am the original WAPM man. The Wildly Accurate Projection Machine. An don't ever talk about OG WAP again. I had no idea what that meant and I googled that!!! Bad, bad idea! (A googling of WAPM leads to an embroidered shirt and a Scrabble hints page. Surprisingly not to a radio station.)
  19. I've heard some talking heads say not many teams will be spending, and in fact many teams will be cutting costs that are not normally cost cutters. Their expectation was many options would be declined that normally wouldn't, and even the strong possibility of some surprise non-tenders. I think he might have overstated his case, but it would not surprise me if there were fewer teams in the market for the bigger names. (Boston was the only team they agreed in consensus would be spending this off-season)...
  20. They certainly used to. As the site owner frequents the comments sections, you can raise questions to him and he answers publicly. And if he thinks he made an error, he addresses them, too...
  21. He's only 33. It does seem like he should be more than 2 years older than Springer...
  22. Brad Hand sucks...
  23. I guess I wonder what "shorter contract, cheaper dollars" means in that case. The last few seasons, Ozuna has been a step behind Springer at the plate and he seems like the most likely consolation prize for whoever makes a mega offer to Springer but is not his top choice. He might come cheaper, but that doesn't mean Ozuna will come cheap...
  24. Brantley was willing to accept a 2 year contract last time. While not really an essential part of a rebuild, he is an extremely good hitter (.852 OPS/125 OPS+ in the last 3 seasons) who can fill a role. And I'm not anticipating some sort of full blown "rebuild" like, say, the Astros did; I think the Sox will add pieces to make them competitive without adding any boat anchor contracts that drag on for the better part of the next decade as the player ages into mediocrity. So, I am not expecting Bauer. As for my ability to predict, I think the Pirates trade is unlikely simply because Vazquez probably doesn't really fit their timeline, although a third team (Mets? Rays?) could get involved. But you might have loved my old WAPM predictions from the other site...
  25. Could and very liekly will. Of course, that doesn't mean they come cheap. Or, to be honest, that he has any interest in Vazquez despite the team having a black hole at catcher ever since Francisco Cervelli stopped playing the position...
