At some point, being "one of the better options" from this year's Sox pitching staff is an honor akin to "having the one of the more fearsome goldfish on your street"...

The Sox 40 man roster has far too much fluff for there to be any crunch...

No. The Sox currently have 46 MLB players (counting those on IL but not counting Bradley) for their 40 man roster spots. But they also have 15 players by my count they could DFA and watch clear waivers. 17 if you think Weber and Mazza could. They can DFA enough players to cover their minor leaguers needing protection. Having very little talent in the upper levels (who are more likely to be selected over A ball players) certainly does help here...

He has options. Right now, all he takes up a 40 man roster spot, which plenty of other expendables do as well. Now he might be dealt, but I don’t think his departure is imminent just yet...

There are plenty of precedents like Rick Reuschel, LaMar Hoyt, John Kruk, Cecil Fielder, Jon Broxton, etc. that you need to get around first...

I agree on most of those names - maybe not Chatham - as being gone. One guy I think very likely to stay is Matt Hall. He was acquired for his outstanding spin rate and I doubt they give up on him after only 8 innings...

Sure it could. And the Sox have at least that much to spend already. I have faith enough in Bloom that Pedroia's deal won't be an issue...

Point? Tanner Houck was on the exact same pace after 3 starts. Is the benchmark for representative sample size more than 3 starts but less than 6?

Eh. If he stays on solely to collect the money that he is no longer able to physically earn due to an injury on the battlefield, I'm ok with it. I don't think the $13.75mill is a hindrance to Bloom to the same degree it would be to Dombrowski...

He's already not on the 40 man roster. He might be put on it briefly in the offseason, but he will go alost immediately back to the 60 day IL, which removes him from the 40 man roster. The only thing about Pedroia that still impacts the Sox at all is his final year of AAV...

Pedroia has not been on the 40 man roster since April of 2019, other than a brief obigatory add last off-season...

I really doubt Covey and Sharwyn need to be included or have any appeal to the Rays. They're both the definition of "Replacement Level". The one deal that BTV accepts that I could see the Rays making is Vazquez straight up for Diego Castillo...

I hope they move Eovaldi to the pen, where he could give 50-60 excellent IP to a pen that badly needs it. A bullpen with Eovaldi, Barnes, Brasier and Darwinzon Hernandez as the top four options is not a bad start at all. Add in Taylor and Valdez(?) and a couple acquisitions and the bullpen could become a potential strength for this team (depending on the acquistions)...

Or in the case of Eovaldi, pay half his salary to not pitch for another team. That’s more of a bargain than you realize....
