  1. Yes, they are usually very grateful. Norm Charlton was so generous, he even let Roger Clemens get a hit off him once...
  2. Eaton would have been a nice target for the Red Sox. Surprised he got virtually no mention as one...
  3. Nasty Boys, not Beastie Boys...
  4. It's all smoke. No one likes Brice. Not even Mrs. Brice...
  5. They can handle the Downs situation when the time comes. It's note like teams do not change the positions of top prospects at or near the majors to get them in the lineup. (Like moving Mookie to the outfield.) Heck if Bogaerts opts out, there is Downs' new position. I do think they still opt for a COVID bargain, and two guys I like for that are Cesar Hernandez, who is criminally underrated every year by everyone, and Jonathan Schoop, who was Bogaerts' double play partner on the Netherlands National Team in the WBC...
  6. Optioning Taylor to Pawtucket is still keeping him. Even if the Sox open the season with an 8 man bullpen, they're going to use somewhere between 15 and 20 (or more!) relief pitchers over the course of a 162 game season. There will be room for Taylor at some point. But when you are in the back of the bullpen and still have options, the opening day roster does become less of a certainty..
  7. A career OPS+ of 156 and an OPS of .912 after 15 seasons.7 All Star appearances and 1 MVP award. You don't need deep analytics to make a Cooperstown Case for Allen. The Bill James Hall of Fame Monitor gives him a score of 99, which ranks 171st all time, but also places him 1 point behind Hall of Famer Pee Wee Reese and tied with Hall of Famers Zack Wheat, Jim Bottomley, and Joe Kelley. And ahead of numerous other Hall of Famers...
  8. I'm more OK with drafting 1-2 players if the Sox can work out deals for them and keep them in the minors. Otherwise the Rule 5 draft is not a good way to develop players, as they most likely lose a year of development by sitting on the bench a lot in the majors, but the team also loses a year of control as they gain service time. Now if they draft a couple guys to replace Valdez and Taylor (both of whom still have options) at the back end of the bullpen, that's not nearly as catastrophic. But hopefully they build up the front end with a couple of really solid relief pitchers at some point to reduce the need for the Rule 5 guys to pitch meaningful innings...
  9. Well, short on good analytics, wnyway...
  10. It would be disadvantageous for a team to take him via the rule 5 draft, and even of they did, he is not a massive loss. But much like last year when he was also exposed to waivers, most teams seem to be avoiding him anyway. It is possible his reputation from St. Louis is still an issue. The Sox now have TWO pen spots on the 40 man roster. Maybe they make a Rule 5 pick, but hopefuly they are looking to add some actual MLB talent. But if it was a Rule 5 pick, hopefully they grab a pitcher they can at least bury in the back of the bullpen. A couple of intriguing names per various websites around the internet include Colorado LHP Riley Pint and San Diego RHP Jordan Guerrero. Both of whom do have triple digit heat, but as you can guess, obvious issues with control/command. But that is to be expected for any hard throwing lottery ticket left exposed...
  11. The Red Sox are NOT getting Arenado. Or Anthony Renaudo. Or this hybrid name of the two. Not sure who you mean. Arenado is like a fine Molson. By which I mean he is a product of Coors. .975/.793 home/road splits are NOT worth $200 million...
  12. Again, two from Bradley, Hand and Robles. Or is it Bradley, Robles and Hand? (And Young?)
  13. Ok, but the only person who thought Eovaldi was worth that much was Dombrowski. I've been complaining about that deal since before it was signed. So how much is Gausman worth if Eovadl is overpaid...
  14. I think just one if a good trade partner can be found. I think the Sox best spend the bulk of their free agent cash on the bullpen. Two from Bradley, Hand and Robles, please...
  15. Or there were never any hard feelings to begin with because Cora owned up to his actions and took his punishment like an adult and did not care what happened to the others...
  16. Increased velocity? Great, now hittersget to wait just that much less when drawing their walks off Feltman. Feltman doesn't need velocity. He needs control and command...
  17. That's one of the most famous misheard lyrics. Thousands upon thousands of people think that's what it is. The most popular website devoted to misheard song lyrics even takes it's name from it - https://www.kissthisguy.com/
  18. Last 3 seasons IP and ERA+ Lester: 414.1 106 Perez: 312.2 87 Porcello: 424.2 91 Happ: 388.1 105 Odorizzi: 337.0 107 Leake 387.0* 98 (*Skipped 2020) Paxton 331.1 108 Quintana 355.1 98 Tanaka 386.0 107 Teheran 381.2 99 Urena 282.0* 90 (*60 games but only 49 starts) Williams 371.2 93 With regards to durability and performance, Lester actually does make a ton of sense. Perez has been one of the worst pitchers over the last 3 seasons for all the starting options that are available, and he is not remarkably durable. Leake is also one of the more durable options, but he pitches to contact and gives up a lot of home runs. Negotiate at your own risk...
  19. It was a severe miscalculation by the giants if they figured journeyman Gausman would decline a QO...
  20. Update. Zack Wheeler reportedly not available...
  21. Get 2 MLB starters and 2 MLB relievers and this has the potential to be a formidable pitching staff. (Assuming they are all decent pitchers.)
  22. If they are saying they would not accept Babe Ruth for Wheeler, either that means they are upping the trade value or they have reached the point where they refuse to make deals for corpses more than 70 years into the decaying process. Either way, it makes the deal very difficult for the Sox, which is not something they need to consider for Zack Wheeler, who is at best the #4 starter in a rotation made solely of guys named Zachary...
  23. Eovaldi to the bullpen! The guy has not thrown 125 IP in a season since 2015. You know, back when Albert Pujols was still an All Star and the league's highest paid LTCF resident Miguel Cabrera was a batting champion...
