  1. Well, I have been pushing Puig for a while now. He is an absolute monster. And when I say that I mean I am not sure he is human. He certainly does not behave like one...
  2. FTFY Especially since it does not highlight how tremendeous Jake Arrieta was during a couple of those years, which include a Cy Young Award...
  3. Doubtful Duran makes the team out of ST. Limited OF playing time and he does need to step up the defense. He's done well in some short seasons, but his last full season ended with a pretty bad stint in AA ball. He might debut in 2021, but not in Aoril. And he probably is NOT a better player right now than Kevin Pillar or Yasiel Puig...
  4. Gennett was awful in 2019 (due to an early season oblique strain) and did not play in 2020. If he is even looking for work, he probably settles for a minor league deal or a contract with an Asian league...
  5. EE always wanted to come to Boston for the honor of replacing Ortiz. Encarnacion was pretty awful last year, but I hope the short season isn't weighed too heavily, especially since he was very good in 2019. His 1B has been limited recently, but isn't non-existant, having played 57 games at 1B in 2019. Zero games there in 2020, but that probably does not reflect as much on Encarnacion as it does on 2020 AL MVP Jose Abreu. I do think if the Sox add a 1B, it might be a LHH like Moreland, who apparently is the guy who talked Boston up to Garrett Richards when they were teammates in San Diego...
  6. Pivetta always reminded me of Jake Arrieta. Both had similar stories about having an incredible arsenal they just could not harness and played for teams that just could not maximize their talents, but were hesitant to deal them both due to their potential. Both were finally traded iin July of their age 27 seasons. Arrieta threw 358 IP for the Orioles with a 5.46 ERA/4.72 FIP. Pivetta threw 396 IP for the Phillies with a 5.50 ERA/4.64 FIP. After the deal, Arrieta threw 803 IP for the Cub with a 2.73 ERA/3.16 FIP. Probably a bit much to expect those numbers from Pivetta, but I do think there is a chance he pitches much better than he did in Philly. So far Pivetta has a 1.80 ERA/3.39 FIP for the Sox in 10 IP...
  7. If players not on the 40 man count, I believe Jimenez is the fastest, followed by Duran. If you mean only on the 40, probably Rosario...
  8. Yep. He ran right off it...
  9. It wasn’t going to slow. It got injured and will spend the next 15 days on the IL...
  10. Not if we bring back Clay Buchholz!!
  11. They’re just going to dump everything on mvp’s lawn....
  12. He might be, but the initial buzz is he plays 2b...
  13. Or RF. As much as Verdugo is a better fit for RF than CF, the option cannot be ignored. Although I think Pillar is the most likely option at this point, ahead of Puig...
  14. ..carried heavily by a single 3 for 6 game where he homered of Kyle Hart and Marcus Walden and doubled against Jose Peraza. Possibly not representative against actual MLB pitching...
  15. As the pen stands today, what makes you think Gossett is destined for Worcester?
  16. 2024 is Alex Verdugo's option year. If the plan is to wait that long, it is already flawed...
  17. Don't ruin one of my better metaphorical punchlines!!!
  18. But it will meaningfully impact my decision to buy that Daniel Gossett jersey!!
  19. Batting average is overrated. But OBP (.290) and K% (28%) are not. OPS+ (106) does tell us Renfroe is an above average hitter for his career, and his splits indicate he has not always been a platoon player that has an inordinate number of at-bats vs LHP. But I still hope the Sox bring in a CF or RF and push him into a platoon with Benintendi..
  20. If we rank the pen options, Andriese is probably 5th or 6th arm, depending on whether or not the Sox import the Japanese pitcher. I would place Brice, Valdez, and Whitlock below him. My hope is both Brice and Valdez can be removed from the initial bullpen, but I am not sure how likely that is. Now if the Sox DFA Brice, would anyone sign him? I think if anyone claims him, he then becomes one of those pitchers who gets DFA'd every three days in hopes he can clear waivers and come back without taking up the roster spot. He might spend most of Spring Training packing and buying bus tickets...
  21. Yes he will be slightly older. But there is a big difference in expectations from a player who missed an entire year because his arm had to be reassembled like a Tinker Toy as opposed to a healthy athlete who missed an entire year to go sit in the corner...
  22. It is fun deciding which piece of excrement gets flushed...
  23. Ah but there is an Atari 2600-like beauty in a baseball game where you know every ground ball that gets past an infielder can and probably will go for a home run...
  24. That's a mighty tall order. And it makes me think you have completely forgotten about the immortal Mike Wacha. Wacha might be immortal, but his elbow certainly is not...
  25. Oh I would have 0 issues with Brice being DFA'd. But there is no real advantage to DFAing him just to clear a path for Mazza/Walden/Springs/Weber/Brewer. And if this team ever gets to the point where the biggest question mark on this team is the 8th man in the bullpen, hopefully we will all be a lot more satisfied...
