Exactly. And Fenway skews it a bit because the zone for left field can’t count those balls hit 25 feet up the monster where any play is impossible. It is worth noting the Sox team defense is supported by great numbers in LF (2nd in MLB) which might mask some of the other positions, notably 3b (14th), SS (16th) and 1b (27th)…

Clutch vs. choke - do these numbers mean anything?

The entire notion of using post-season stats to determine clutch is also made up and useless. We've all seen plenty of players get post-season at-bats in blowout games. Really the notion of "clutch" in itself is pretty fabricated. A lot of times, it comes down to simply how you remember a player. I've seen people say Yaz wasn't cltuch because he popped out to end the 1978 season with the tying run on third. These people saw 39yo Yaz in that game, and, like me, clearly missed his monstrous ending to the 1967 season... -
But at least they're both healthy. I have some faith in Robles, who at least had a decent season back in 2019. I think Davis was just brought in to be a LH placeholder until Darwinzon returns...

The Orioles and the Cubs both have 11 game losing streaks. With the Cubs, it’s somewhat understandable, as they had one of the biggest fire sales in recent years, unloading Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Javier Baez and Craig Kimbrel. And the only MLB player they got back for them is out for the season. But the Orioles? The only MLB player they dealt off their roster was Freddy Galvis…

But how many years would he likely get at 35? If he value years more, he opts out. If he wants as much money as possible for 2021 and will worry about the future later, he probably stays. Another thing working against him is that Dombrowski - the man who not only resurrected his career in Detroit but also gave him his current lucrative contract - will have no need for a DH until the rules change…

Well, he has played 2b. But that doesn’t mean he can play there. He’s a worse option there than Arroyo, Hernandez, Arauz and probably Munoz…

And that he could drop off at any time might be why he sees opting out after this year as his best option. Now maybe he is happy in Boston and stays. But he very likely won’t get as good of an offer - in terms of years and money - after 2022 unless he has another tremendous season. In fact, he’ll be at an age where he might not be able to do better than a series of 1 year deals until he retires…

True. But then either way, he has to decide if he prefers money or years. If he stays, it still gets tougher to get a longer deal next year. If you think he is going to stay for the higher single season salary, what will he do the following year? Just retire? The QO could figure in for him for 2022, but he is also t going to avoid it in 2023 unless he is terrible. If he does want more years, opting out after this year is actually his best plan…

Cruz never exceeded the $14.25mill AAV, but he also got a 4 year deal when he was JD's current age. I don't know if JD wants money or years, but Cruz is certainly an example to show that teams will give an aging DH (up to) 4 years...
