  1. So... one start of, say, 5 innings should do it?
  2. A year ago, a JD opt out felt like a fantasy. But after the way he got started this year, it’s looking pretty likely. Especially with only one year left if he doesn’t...
  3. .... barring injury.
  4. I’m not sure we lost too many All Star seasons from Benintendi. I know he’s only 26, but his current .735 OPS, while stellar next to Cordero’s, is still pretty average. (And is really very Chavis-like.). But really, the guy has had an OPS over .780 in a season where he had more than 120 at bats exactly one time. Sure he’s young enough to find his way, but his control remaining made it unlikely that happened in Boston anyway...
  5. Not enough to put him behind Chavis on the depth chart. Gonzalez, Hernandez and Santana can all basically play anywhere. But with Arroyo back, the Sox have 4 starters plus all of them for depth. The outfield situation has just Verdugo and Renfroe as dedicated outfielders. Cordero just gives them more depth than Chavis would. The Sox simply have fewer dedicated outfielders than dedicated infielders...
  6. With Arroyo back, they need Chavis a bit less...
  7. Still thnk he gets called up before he gets DFAd. If the Sox DFA a pitcher with MLB experience, has options and makes no money, absolutely zero chance he clears waivers. So you have to be sure you don' want him before you do that. And I doubt they made that call after 3 IP...
  8. Right now, Brennan has a better chance, since he can be added with one roster move. Workman is going to require more moves just to make him eligible...
  9. I think Brewer might get a few IP before getting DFAd. It might be too early in the season to start making irreversible moves without giving the internal options a chance...
  10. Wrong Brandon. I’m talking about some guy named Brandon Brennan who’s on the bottom of the 40 man roster...
  11. Yeah it’s very, very likely Sale is pitching a very limited amount this year and possibly not even starting. Of course, he still fills a bigger need as a short stint, high leverage relief pitcher who can get important outs and is more likely to succeed in that role than Duran is as a a starting outfielder this season...
  12. Tampa is even hotter right now. The 3 best teams in the AL are probably all in the East. Although I can accept arguments Oakland belongs on that short list...
  13. Aggree mostly. Casas - yes. He has 75 PA above A-ball. He isn't Juan Soto. No rush with him. Duran? I'd be surprised if we don't see him until September. Someone will get hurt and the OF depth in the minors is him and Marcus Wilson, and while Wilson does have the advantage of already being on the 40 man roster, it wouldn't surprise me if we saw Duran at some point this summer. But there is no urgency. Chris Sale is the much bigger need...
  14. That was my feeling this offseason. But then, by thinking they were a slightly-above .500 team, I did think they'd be better than the Sox. So there is that...
  15. No. That tweet does not say who makes the calls at all. It keeps everything in a vague state about the organization. I suppose if someone desperately wanted to interpret that tweet hat way, thy could probably find something that might support a biased fantasy, I guess. Like where it says "Clubs also have to make choices." I mean, if you believe this means the principal ownership group is making the choices, then yeah., it's Henry to you. But like everything in that tweet, it's all pretty vague and non-specific. And it certainly does not definitively support the idea that Henry is making the call all by himself...
  16. It will be Cordero when the opposing team starts a southpaw...
  17. That’s not what you said at all in post 224. Here you say Henry has final approval. Ten posts back, you said ownership makes the initial decision...
  18. Rays acquire RHP Drew Rasmussen and 28yo minor league journeyman, AAAA arm, and possibly a good guy RHP JP Feyereisen...
  19. ... with Trevor Richards. Are the Rays selling? Or paving the way for Wander Franco (who was NOT called up after this transaction)?
  20. One could argue ownership hired Bloom to make that decision. He’s the Chief Baseball officer. Above him, the only guy paying attention to day-to-day stuff is probably Kennedy...
  21. I think if you let both play the season out, Cordero would outhit Santana...
  22. And his much more likely floor is the 55 OPS+ he had for the four seasons between his two good years...
  23. If they stay in first, they should be buyers. But what if they’re 5 games out?
  24. What if he quit baseball to spend more time with Yoko Ono?
