My mini-mock selection of Rocker looks less likely by the day. But I'm sticking with it, unlike these spineless, wishy-washy types at MLB.com and BA and everywhere else -
If nothing else, he is still looking pretty suspect. I'm not one to accuse without any proof, and a few bad games is never proof, but he absolutely is a candidate...

And my criticism of him might have some flaws. Interesting he looked good behind the plate. That was actually the knock against him in the LA system. Although it is quite possible that being in the same organization at the same time as Will Smith, Keibert Ruiz and Diego Cartaya might have impacted their decisions to bounce him around the diamond, meaning either they figured catcher was covered or that he simply did not look as good as any of those others...

One of many awful sales and trades between the Sox and Yankees in just a few years. Frazee basically handed them Ruth, Hall of Famer Herb Pennock, Should-Be Hall of Famer Carl Mays, and two other good pitchers in Sad Sam Jones and Bullet Joe Bush. Basically handed the Yankees the best pitching staff of the 1920’s and in return got to put on a s***** play and plunge his team into nearly nine decades of frustration…

Maybe. I might have missed one but the biggest contract for an RP that off-season appears to have been 4 years $31mill for Darren O’Day. Certainly Kimbrel gets more money and probably the same years (five year deals for relievers are still rare). $60-$70 mill would be the range. But what’s your point? Really what it looks like is Dombrowski escalated his price to convince San Diego to sell. That means yes, he had to overpay. If San Diego was dumping salary, he really went overboard. And for a team with as many needs on pitching as the 2015 Red Sox, spending all the allowance on a closer did not look like a good idea.

What about the 2020 bullpen? The only experienced reliever we added was coming off a season with an ERA well over 5. Unlike the 2015 bullpen, which was loaded with experienced (and successful) MLB relievers. Also while Kimbreltrack record was impressive, certainly 2015 closer Uehara’s was as well. Remember how Uehara became the closer? Two pitchers ahead of him went down for the season…
