  1. Didn’t want to DFA anyone just yet?”
  2. He started 104 games in 2018 and 100 games in 2019. I can see an argument or him being a starter regardless of his usage. But the more important factor is - he’s a starter now, also regardless of his previous usage. Whether or not another team used him in a different capacity isn’t a reason to promote Duran…
  3. I do agree with that point and think it often gets overlooked. I don’t think this is a case of the Sox rushing the 24yo Duran. But I do suspect either his defense or the lack of a clear role are bigger factors. Especially once Arroyo returns…
  4. The leadoff problem is on Cora. Why he keeps insisting on sub-.300 OBP hitters in the role is beyond me. As he already has better options (starting with Verdugo) I’m not sure he sees Duran as the solution. He might, but it wouldn’t surprise if it also changed nothing atop the lineup. I see two possibilities about why Duran is still in Worcester. 1) Someone is not happy with his defense, and 2) there’s no real path to playing time if everyone is healthy. I don’t think they want him in a part time role, even as a strong side of a platoon. In fact, it’s possible the guy keeping him down is the resurgent Renfroe. We all assumed Renfroe was acquired to be a weak side platoon with Benintendi, and then to be a weak side platoon with Cordero. But he’s established himself as a full time starter. If everyone is healthy, this fills the OF (with Verdugo and Kike) and leaves no real path to playing time for Duran…
  5. But if he had a .775 at McCoy Stadium, no one would be talking about him at all…
  6. I don't think he gets called up unless it is to be an everyday player. If they just need a part time sub to improve on Santana, then both Marcus Wilson and (especially) Franchy Cordero are more likely...
  7. Maybe Duran has surpassed Franchy Cordero in the promotion pecking order. Maybe. But even then, Cordero is the one on the 40 man roster...
  8. A lot of more or as highly touted rookies, including Luis Campusano (.272), Jarren Kelenic (.378), Christian Pache (.358), Taylor Trammell (.643), Wander Franco (.598), Andy Vaughn (.700), and Alex Kirilloff (.738) have not exactly hit the ground running. It doesn't mean Duran will struggle, but it certainly means there is a chance he will...
  9. Not sure why you’re taking this so personal. Duran’s promotion isn’t determined by a forum poll and isn’t subject to message board approval. Whether we agree or not, ONE GUY makes that call. And right now, that guy is saying to wait a bit longer. Also, are most people saying “don’t bring up Duran”? It seems like some are saying “maybe this is why they haven’t brought up Duran.” There’s a big difference. I have no clue why they haven’t brought him up. I’ve had my share of reservations about him, but I’ve seen plenty of lesser players get promoted. Relax. He’s not likely to play in Worcester all season. Of course, he’s also not likely to be the panacea many think right off the bat, either…
  10. When Arroyo is healthy, they don’t need to play them every day. Those guys are injury replacements from the bench…
  11. JD only plays the OF during inter league road games, which is going to continue as long as he keeps hitting and Duran isn’t going to take those limited innings away from him. The Sox don’t play Martinez in the OF for his glove. It’s possible the entire reason Duran is still in AAA is to “figure it out” defensively. He can do that in Worcester. In fact, he’ll do it faster there…
  12. Fangraphs did an article on them some years ago. Back on BDC, when I used to recommend certain lesser known players I hoped the Sox would get (Hidden Gems, as I called them) one of them was Miles Mikolas, who was pitching in Japan at the time, but I liked him based on his elite spin rates. Of course, their article was about spin rates on curveballs…
  13. Maybe the issue is solely defense? Duran has played just over 200 games in the outfield in his minor league career after playing infield for the majority/entirety of his college career and possibly his high school one as well. And not everybody who converts to outfield takes to the position as quickly and effectively as Mookie did. Does this team need any more questionable defenders?
  14. Just rolls this thread title into one convenient position…
  15. Welcome to first grade!!!
  16. Well, he could be. In his first 92 PA, the more highly regarded Jarred Kelenic post an OPS+ of 9. Yes, 9. Even Santana has an OPS+ of 32….
  17. Only a little shorter in very specific instances. Not like every game before the rule change involved bringing in a reliever to face 1 or 2 hitters with less than 2 outs….
  18. Not a rental, but certainly an option. BTV gives him roughly the same trade value (4.5) as Groome (4.3). Do you pull that trigger?
  19. Probably for the best then, because I don’t think it has any effect on pace of play…
  20. Then why did they enact three new (and less effective) rules to achieve the same result?
  21. Sadly he’s still probably the best of the potentially available rental options. Unless you like CJ Cron and his Coors-inflated numbers this year (.618 road OPS)…
  22. Which makes their ignorance of rule 5.07© very strange…
  23. Maybe he’s pining for Fenway?
  24. I disagree with that in principle. But I certainly see why it happens. Perfect example MLB rule 5.07© regarding pitch clock and pace of play…
  25. See what I mean? I keep hearing the Tigers top choice is Marcelo Mayer. Is it Leiter? Mayer? Jobe? Davis? No one really knows. I do think Leiter fails to reach the Sox. But I’m sticking with Rocker as their top choice. Sure some scouts are mildly souring on him (dropping from projected #1 to projected #7 is hardly an indictment of his skills), but Bloom needs raw talent pitching in the farm…
