  1. It was a bad throw, but I’d still like to know how the runner at first was safe.
  2. MLB will never admit it, but Angel essentially was fired last May. There was an ump who was fired for gambling; might have been last year. I recall a couple guys fired back in the 60s, supposedly for performance but they were also involved in the trying to organize the umpire’s union.
  3. Cmon, as an umpire, he’s doing the absolute best job of his career right now.
  4. The rectangle is fine on the sides; up and down it’s worthless. NESNs is the same size vertically for Judge and Altuve.
  5. He does a passable job on the bases (not great, but he’s not awful). He’s horrible behind the plate. So in that regard, he’s better than Angel Hernandez was (who sucked at all aspects of umpiring). But then, my one year old grandson might be better than old Angel.
  6. Sounds like a post designed to up his clicks. He may be closer to the team than any of us, but I have have doubts he “knows”.
  7. Hey, let’s put a moratorium on complaints about the strike zone tonight. It’s CB Bucknor, it’s going to suck.
  8. Maybe because he just pitched Sunday? I know he only went 5 innings, but still … Pretty sure you’ll see him in KC on Friday. If they run through all 5 starters, with the off day, it will be Saturday
  9. Because their number one goal is to piss talksox posters off. You do realize they are all of 2 games out of first place, right?
  10. Uh huh. I’m trying to refrain from laughing at the internet tough guy routine.
  11. That’s your opinion. Question, would you say that to his face? Everyone here thinks they are smarter than every manager. He’s not the best in the league, he’s not the worst. I know I don’t want that job.
  12. Don’t see that happening. Bobby’s best bet was a fresh start somewhere else and he failed at that as well.
  13. Devers has an even larger and longer one. I’d rather leave Campbell at second.
  14. Millar not mincing a lot of words on his view of this. Said a lot of words, but all to the point.
  15. He came out because he threw a ton of pitches and a lot of them were high stress pitches (meaning lots of pitches with men on). I also don’t discount the shot off his nose affecting him in the 5th (I don’t know that it did, but it may have; it certainly was his worst control inning).
  16. No, but once again, without his best stuff (which even great pitchers have happen a few times a year), Crochet gave the team a good chance at the win. It’s what good pitchers do.
  17. Which I said, he was a decent first sacker. He sucked as a 3rd baseman.
  18. Almost certainly the answer. 40 man must be full when anyone goes on the 60 Day.
  19. You don’t just shove a guy into a position he’s never played before. First base may be the easiest position to play, but there are still techniques and plays that need to be learned. Throwing anyone in there with zero notice is detrimental to the team, and that is is something a manager needs to avoid. I remember when a need arose at 3B many years ago. Yaz (a great LF and a decent 1B) volunteered to man the position. It was an utter disaster. Should Rafi start taking some infields and working with the coaches on footwork, etc? Probably. In a game less than 24 hours after the injury? No.
  20. Duquette didn’t say he was in the twilight of his career; he said they hoped to have him during the twilight of his career; Clemens also turned down the biggest contract ever offered to a Sox player at the time. Either way, he still tanked his last 4 years in a Sox uniform, especially when compared to what he did afterwards.
  21. Clemens by a mile. He basically sucked his last 4 years in Boston, then miraculously became good again in Toronto. Boggs really wasn’t pursued by the Sox after he reached free agency. Clemens turned down a huge contract offer and there is the steroids thing.
  22. Whitlock was the problem Wednesday. I don’t put losing a ghost runner game on any pitcher unless he gives up a multiple runs in one of the extras.
  23. Didn’t we have this same sample size discussion last week? With the same participants and the same rhetoric?
