  1. Day game after a catching a night game, so I get it. Not like they’re rife with choices though, especially from the right side.
  2. 1-0? No. But this Guardian pitcher is pretty good, so it’s borderline.
  3. Yep. Contreras swinging for the downs with 2 strikes was just plain dumb hitting.
  4. He’s got a partially torn ligament in his ring finger. The only thing that heals a ligament is time and you kinda need that part of your hands to hit. Merloni pegged it when it happened. He said you never know with hands. It could be a week, it could be a couple months. He was right. Lying Sam Kennedy is the one who said it was day to day. Best bet is to believe absolutely nothing that man says.
  5. And in the previous 9 he allowed 1 run (ghost runner unearned) and 4 hits (never more than 1 in any game). As this bullpen goes, he’s hardly been a problem.
  6. Maybe we could just forfeit every 5th game. The opener thing has been a disaster.
  7. Killer in the first was the 2nd hit with an exit velocity of less than 40 mph.
  8. Theo is not going to take a downgrade in position to GM or PBO level responsibilities.
  9. It’s on Breslow and Bailey. They are the common denominators through Weissert’s time in Boston. As someone said, Cora kept using him in those situations too. None of which changes my point that is send him back out for another inning or 2. Again, why use 2 or 3 more pitchers to cover the last 3 innings, especially with a Bello game tomorrow in Cleveland.
  10. Every time I see a grand slam, I’m reminded that Jim Palmer pitched 19 years in the big leagues and never allowed one. He did allow one in the minors to some Reds prospect named Bench.
  11. I send Weissert back out again. Why waste 2-3 more pitchers today.
  12. Weissert’s not that good, but he never seems to come into a clean inning. OTOH, 0-2 and then never threw another competitive pitch to little Yaz. Weissert can stay in from here on out. I sometimes wonder if he’s a Yankee plant.
  13. Anyone know what happened on the foul tip that wasn’t reviews? Only thing I can think of is they didn’t ask quickly enough.
  14. I have no problem with this. A lefty with a motion and a slider like Sale’s is the kind of southpaw Mayer should sit for.
  15. No idea what you’re looking at but: Devers has 1 homer and 5 RBIs this week (so Kiner-Falefa for that matter). May carried a no-hitter into the 8th today; he lost the no-no in the 8th Harrison’s high for strikeouts in a game this season is 12, In late April. He also had an 11 K game on May 20. All other games were in single digits. Grissom is the only real item. Devers and Harrison info is per the Game Logs on Baseball Reference.
  16. It’s good or excellent, My teenaged mind of 50+ years ago kind of translated it as large and the main phrase I remember from the book was horrorshow groodies, which dealt with the torso of a grown woman (like I said, I was a teenager). I admit I looked up the Russian word for gap, so my phase above was meant as large holes in the offense. Here’s a link to Clockwork terminology. https://www.sparknotes.com/lit/clockworkorange/terms/
  17. To keep this on baseball, the Red Sox offense has some horrorshow probels in it. (My apologies if I bastardized the NadSat language there).
  18. Waaaay too early to do either. 1) Folks here couldn't wait to get rid of Hamilton last year. He's had a slightly better start this year, but let's not pretend he's done a whole lot better than he did last year here. He's pretty much at his career numbers and those are nothing to be excited about. 2) Harrison has had a good 9 games covering 45 innings. Maybe its a hot streak or maybe he's matured. There is nothing from his years in SF that screams keeps me and he only pitched in 3 games for the Sox last year. Let's see what happen going forward. He has potential, that's it. 3) Drohan has all of 25 innings pitched. That means nothing other than maybe he could be a decent pitcher.
