    Baseball. Duran gets a hit with an exit velocity that wouldn’t get you a ticket in a small town speed trap. Masa rips one into a DP.

    How? The only change is Eaton in for Yoshida. Otherwise it’s pretty much same group that’s won the last 3 days. Mets pitching has been outstanding today. That has a way of making teams look sluggish. I seriously doubt Yoshida would have changed that.

    He’s been sharper than Tolle was today. One solo homer doesn’t change that. This L is on the hitters, or more accurately, on this Mets’ pitcher who has been really good. Sometimes you have to tip your cap to the opponent.

    He’s back to trying to pull everything. Seems like every time he hits a couple homers, he moves to pull city.

    Different role than Watson. Watson is the 8th guy in the pen, mop up duty and has been better after a terrible start (as noted by JoeBrady above). He also has the ability to go multiple innings; last night was the first time Coulombe has gone more than one. Plus Watson can actually strike out a batter. Coulombe has struck out 5 guys since April. Neither will be going to Cooperstown without a paid admission.

    All those "high" pitches tonight may have been strikes. NESN's box didn't seem to go above the waist on anyone and the actual strike zone does.

    3 wasn’t that bad IMO, but it doesn’t come anywhere close to the first 2. Hard for any sequel to measure up, and impossible for a second one.

    Sit him for who? He did double tonight and. scored the 4th run. He had another pretty well hit ball to left (needs to do that at home more).

    Not like he was hit hard. Walk was bad. First hit was softly hit and on a pitch 4-5 inches outside. 2nd hit couldn’t have been rolled to a better spot and must have had an exit velocity of 20-30 mph.

    That didn’t age well. He’s been really good for 2 outs; getting the 3rd one’s been an issue. He only needed to get 2 outs tonight.

    It’s ridiculous for any current hitter not named Schwarber. He gets a pass because he not only hits homers but also has a tremendous OBP.

    Which essentially means he misses no games. He pitched Sunday, and the Nats have an off day on Thursday. His next start probably would normally have been on Saturday, he’ll just pitch Sunday instead.

    A pitcher gets 30 days max on a rehab assignment and he started his on 6/5; That ended on Sunday, so they either had to activate him, return him to the IL or send him packing.

    Sure, on that level. But I’m talking about the effect on the teams. Suspended players cannot be replaced on the roster. The Red Sox lose an everyday player for 7 games (or whatever it’s reduced to on appeal). Over 7 games, a starting pitcher will appear no more than twice, and the team can easily figure out a way to make it once via off days or dropping the appeal the day after a start. Far different effects on the teams. Look at the other two guys suspended, Eaton and Mikolas. Eaton is out 3 games. Mikolas can start on his normal day, serve his suspension the next 3 games, then make his next start on normal rest. Zero issue for the Nats.

    Might be fair, but the unfair part is 7 for Cavalli, which amounts to missing 1 start.

    I knew Eaton had; didn’t know Willson did, but not surprised.

    The team gets hurt as well. Not only do they lose his production, they can’t replace him on the roster. They will play with 25 until next Saturday against the Mets. Eaton appealed his. Hopefully the league takes its time with that one because if it’s denied in the next week, they get to play with 24 for 3 (or less) games.

    What the Red Sox lack is scouts who can observe whether or not a player can actually play. I can't say for sure, but I'm betting Milwaukee knows the strengths and weaknesses of every player in their farm system and they scout the AA and AAA leagues hard to find ballplayers in other organizations. Breslow knows nothing except his models and spreadsheets. Hopefully now that the Sox have started hiring scouts again, maybe some of this will change. But any decent scouts are most likely employed elsewhere, including the ones Breslow didn't think he needed and fired,

    Lee and Carbo were two members of the Loyal Order of the Buffalo Heads, who’s sole purpose was to mock Zimmer and his decisions. There were 3 or 4 other guys as well. The group lasted maybe 2 years with all of them traded or otherwise moved from the club.
