  1. I know you can't assume everything plays out, but would Young's ball to 3rd have been a DP? (Can't see the game, so that's why I'm asking).
  2. I don't get the Abad bashing here. He's done okay this season for the last or next to last guy in the pen. 2.70 ERA in 30 innings, 1.100 WHIP, 3:1 strike out to walk ratio and has 23 scoreless appearances in 30 games. He sucked last year. He's been pretty decent this year.
  3. So you tell him it's use was okay because he wasn't using the word at anyone, and then turn around and do just that. Nice double standard. You can have the last word.
  4. It's generational. The older generation (like me) was taught the use of the word was low-class. Younger folks don't seem to think that way. It is what it is. And just like you, harmony is entitled to his opinion. Based on subsequent posts, I note that it's you being the jerk here, not harmony.
  5. My guess is it's a last tryout to see if he has anything left to offer. Given what I'm seeing on Gamecast, he's failing it, and with Johnson and Velazquez showing they can at least be serviceable #6 pitchers, the tryout does not need to (and will not) continue. Farrell indicated he's be heading to the pen after this game, but I'm guessing he'll be released very soon, possibly before they head to the coast tonight.
  6. Those numbers correspond with when he broke his toe. He's been trying to play through it, but it's not working. Travis was starting against most lefthanders and he wasn't hitting at all either (his slash line for the same 28 days is .192/.313/.230). Farrell stuck Moreland in there because of the utter futility of the rest of the line-up. Moreland should not be hitting 4th, he should be in th 6-7 hole. That's where they envisioned him. He is, however, a streaky player (as he showed early in the season). I think that toe is bothering him a lot more than they are letting on. I'm hard pressed to think of anyone on this team who should hit cleanup right now. Betts has been scuffling. Bogaerts has as well. Hanley has had brief 2-3 game stretches where he seems to be hammering the ball and then quickly morphs back into blah. I asked you the other night who you would have batting 4th; you never answered. As I stated, right now, no one merits the spot. Unfortunately, they make you pencil somebody in.
  7. Pretty sure Holt took Pablo's 40-man slot when they activated him off the 60-day DL (players on the 60 day don't count towards the 40-man)
  8. It was a feeble attempt at sarcasm.
  9. Who do you propose hit there? Right now, nobody should be hitting there but someone has to. And he did drive in the only run they've scored in the last 25 innings.
  10. The way they are hitting, what difference will it make?
  11. Hanley should have let himself get tossed there. Anything. These games remind of how they came out of the All-Star break a couple of years ago in Anaheim. Absolute disaster both years.
  12. No kidding. 2 unearned runs and a homer that's a foul in every other park.
  13. I agree. He's a back end if the pen guy. Overall he's been fine this year. He's been in 28 games and allowed a run in 7 of them. That is decent for most relievers, let alone a 5th-6th option. Unfortunately, many can never get over first impressions. He came in last year less than stellar and there are those who will never give him any positive words because of that.
  14. They've allowed a 26th man for doubleheaders for several years now. Most of the time they bring up an extra reliever. Plus for the Sox today is that both Porcello and Price tend to go deep into games, and both know the deal. If they have to take one for the team they will.
  15. More than likely they will deny the protest but the umps are going to get a stern behind the scene talking to. Ultimately the play made no difference in the outcome so they will figure out a "graceful" way to get out of it.
  16. So after the protest is upheld, the game restarts in the 11th Hey ya gotta hope. I think they said only one AL protest has ever been upheld, the Pine Tar game.
  17. 3. Beni and JBJ to lead off the 10th and Pedroia leading off the 11th. More alarming, zero XBH in the game and almost no loud outs.
  18. A loss is on the offense. Pitching has been incredible.
  19. You know, Betts really sucks right now. He has looked terrible for the past 3 weeks.
  20. It's Fister's game from here. No relievers left and you do still have to plan for 2 games tomorrow.
  21. For the Sox? I think just Barnes and he threw 2 innings last night and is likely unavailable (not to mention Kimbrel will probably only be available forone of the games tomorrow).
  22. Abad has been decent this year, but he has seldom been out there with the game on the line. He is what he is, near the back of the pen. It's not helping he hasn't pitched in probably 10 or more days.
  23. This next inning is very scary. Sanchez, Judge and Holiday against Boyer is not a good thing Edit - Boyer hurt, Workman may be a worse matchup.
