  1. ' Do we really? This article seems to indicate it's not as good as one might think. It has some extensive and interesting insights from the Director of Technology for Baseball Prospectus on the subject. http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/news/robot-umpires-electronic-strike-zone-in-mlb-pitchfx-balls-and-strikes/ggv80p4qmsu31d72sohrmbcnj Note - it also quotes Joe West, but he can be ignored.
  2. Bradley gets more borderline pitches called for strikes than anyone I've seen.
  3. If ther Sox take the lead here, I'd let Kelly close his own game. He didn't throw too many pitches.
  4. Interesting choice in Kelly; who closes should the Sox take the lead? Not sure I trust Hembree to do it.
  5. Alvarado was downright nasty tonight. That two seamer was fast and had good movement. Glad to see him done.
  6. Message from Price to Sucre about deking Nunez.
  7. Source? It may be true, but it seems like a dumb thing to say 2 days ahead of time.
  8. And so it starts for today.
  9. Actually, it's not. You just put them on ignore and you don't even have to scroll past the drivel. The negative is you have to log in to have it work; if you just read, it's all there. I don't like to put people on ignore, but I like even less having to scroll past a dozen or more posts of garbage to get to a post containing something worth discussing/reading, and then having to go through another 10 of garbage again. The ignores have earned their place on the list.
  10. Would that be a bad thing?
  11. There's really just one critic; he's just very, ahem, passionate(?).
  12. Well, it sounds like we'll find out Friday: http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox/2018/05/red_sox_notebook_dustin_pedroia_heading_for_friday_return
  13. C'mon moon, he's up to 2 innings now and he's the only catcher on the staff without a passed ball. He's obviously better than everyone else. Didn't you hear, he's the next Fisk. To be fair, the yips were apparently in 2017 ST (I did a quick search for that) and he seemingly has gotten past those now.
  14. This is one of your dumber posts, and that boggles the mind.
  15. Kimbrel in big trouble here. He loses effectiveness after 20 or so pitches and really goes down after 25.
  16. He's delusional and irrational. Not worth the effort.
  17. More importantly, both were hit hard.
  18. Now that was very dumb base running play.
  19. The only way is if they decide to try and save a few $ cap wise by moving on from Leon. Sandy makes about $2M (which will probably go up in arbitration) while Swihart is down around the minimum. If so, then Swihart is basically a Rule V player this year. He certainly is being treated like one.
  20. I don't know that it's stubborness at this point. To "fix" his swing, he has to unlearn his current one. Unlearning something you've been doing your entire life is not easy, and it's made much harder when you are playing every day. The time to really do this was the off season. I keep going back to the question, does he even like playing baseball?
  21. Bradley somehow has a career slashline against Chapman of .667/.857/1.524 in 7 PAs. Chapman has gotten him out 1 time. Ever. Tis a very strange game, baseball.
  22. Since Benintendi is hitting right now and Pedroia will be rusty even after the rehab stint, I'd consider putting him in the 9 hole as sort of a second leadoff hitter (leaving Beni in the 2 slot). If Pedey's getting on, having Betts and Beni hitting with a guy on base should lead to more runs. If he's not, it's no different than what is happening right now.
  23. He can only rehab for 20 days (not games). Then he either has to be activated or put back on the DL. The last day to do either is June 3.
  24. Looking back, Iglesias made 2 huge errors in that series. The first was in the 9th inning of game 2 and put the winning run on base. The second was just before Victorino's grand slam in Game 6 when he booted a probable double play ball that would have ended the inning.
