  1. It actually looked pretty far inside; I’m not sure either hit that inning were on pitches in the strike zone.
  2. Of course, that would have been followed by Vazquez striking out and that would leave it up to Bradley. Edit - As Vazquez strikes out.
  3. Beni has come back to Earth after his torrid month as well.
  4. Hardest hit ball so far may have been Bradley’s grounder to first. Decent contact definitely lacking.
  5. Well at least Betts leads off next inning.
  6. What he is doing in San Francisco is irrelevant. Sandoval’s only value to the Red Sox is what he would have provided to Boston. There was nothing in the 2+ years he was here that indicated he would have provided much of anything.
  7. People forget or overlook the fact that Cy Young is the losingest pitcher of all time (316). Johnson is 4th with 279. You have to be really good to lose a lot of games. W-L meant a lot more when pitchers routinely pitched complete games.
  8. There was no reason to try and use Kimbrel for 2 innings. One he has shown that for whatever reason, he’s just not that good at it (we can debate why ad nauseum). But Kelly has been used and been fantastic in that situation all year. There have been a couple times he’s failed but that happens. The questionable move did not involve Kimbrel in any way, shape or form. It was (and I questioned it before or as Scott threw his first pitch) why Scott instead of Kelly? In retrospect, Kelly didn’t have it either so it probably wouldn’t have mattered. As for tired, the team just looked out of it last night. Weak swings, etc. They looked bad Saturday but that was a case of a pitcher just absolutely at his best. Lots of chances last night and hittable pitches in many cases. You can think the travel has nothing to do with it but this type of road trip is very taxing. 3 different time zones with never more than a few days in any one and crossing a total of 5 going back and forth. It is a factor.
  9. Devers has a decent night at the plate; he may be coming around offensively. Would have been nice had either of his hits happened his first time up though.
  10. I don't think he's quite right yet; he has not looked good most of this trip.
  11. He has not looked good on this trip.
  12. Dwight Evans used to make throws like that. Teams literally stopped going first to 3rd on him. Roberto Clemente was great. Dave PArker's throw in the All-Star Game (1979?) nailing Jim Rice at the plate. Of course, those were all right fielders.
  13. He's got a hell of an arm, but he isn't usually that accurate.
  14. They have the look of a very tired club. Long trip, crossed 5 times zones back and forth. Any one who has ever traveled for work knows what I'm taking about. It would be easier to stay on the coast for 3 series like they used to do.
  15. It certainly looked like he gave a less than great effort on it.
  16. Kelly hasn't exactly covered himself with glory this inning either.
  17. Cora's got a look of can't anyone here throw strikes?
  18. I like the fact that they now have a lefty besides Johnson in the pen, but I do question this move.
  19. Scott's been up a few times over the past couple years.
  20. Not sure I like the move with Scott here. Tough spot to make your season debut.
  21. Neither starter can, and that's good. Neither deserved a loss on their record (not that that really matters).
  22. Not so much this year, but he has had a surprising number of those in his years with the Red Sox.
  23. That knee has taken a lot of speed away from him. He probably beats that play last season.
  24. He's had a chance to score 3 tonight and the two big RBI guys have failed to get him in.
  25. Well, none of the first 3 pitches were ones you really want to swing at with less than 2 strikes. For that matter, neither was the 4th one.
