    Yep. Machado didn’t help matters but this is the decline a lot of us foresaw saw a decade ago. It’s not the results, but the bat speed isn’t there anymore. I just hope he realizes it; I fear he won’t.

    Professional pumpkin chucking is as boring as it gets. I think the last full NBA game I watched was when Jordan’s Bulls won their first championship. My sum total since then might add up to 2 full games.

    He has always seemed to play well against the Sox. Didn’t he even get a win as a pitcher in a long game several years ago?

    The dangers of a bullpen game; one or more don’t have it on a given day. Still, 1 run isn’t going to win many games ( and they were lucky to get the 1 IMO).

    I have less of an issue with banning the collisions at home plate than the old take out slides at second. Even under the old rules you couldn’t barrel over people at any other base (although admittedly some of the cross body blocks Hal McRae threw were probably beyond even what were the limits). Never understood why the plate was different.

    Pearce was supposed to be but with JBJ still sick, Benintendi hurt and Nunez apparently ill, Cora doesn’t have a ton of options. Do you use Swihart in left and have Vazquez catch a 4th game in a row? The down side of a 13 man pitching staff

    Amended my post to say it was a moot point due to the replay ruling.

    Think back to the 04 ALCS when ARod slapped the ball out of Arroyo’s glove. They didn’t send Jeter back to 2nd, where he would have been, they sent him all the way back to 1st where he started.

    The ruling is interference and no runners can advance in the case of interference. Moot point since they ruled it okay (though I’m not convinced it was).

    I’m guessing that’s going to be 2 AND Bogie will be sent back to 3rd.

    This may end up being a throw away game; Velazquez has to get through 3 or 4. They can’t burn the pen with the Yanks coming up.

    He’s going to be unpleasantly surprised when he hits free agency in a couple years. There are a lot of good fielding CFs in the game right now.

    The first one was a tremendous play. The second was a tremendous play set up by lack of hustle out of the box and again rounding second. The third was the result of not learning and a dumb play anyway. Pearce was thrown out lugging a piano. This one was bad baserunning.

    With JBJ on deck? Well, they would have cleared him in the lineup anyway. Now he gets to lead off.
