  1. Except Betts IS injured, even if slightly. I want him as close to 100% as is possible for the postseason. It is not worth aggrevating further whatever he has.
  2. They also didn't feel a need to throw every pitch max effort. Feller could throw 100, but that doesn't mean he tried to do so on every fastball. He dialed it up when he needed to.
  3. Probably because his role going forward (at least for this season) will be out of the pen, and Cora needs to find out if a) Johnson can adapt to that role better than he showed earlier this year and does he adapt well enough to be on the postseason roster.
  4. I'm guessing they would go to 4-5 innings the next start and then 5-6 the one after that. Then maybe a short tune-up session in the last series (which all the starters may get).
  5. As he should be; at this point, it's almost like he's back in spring training.
  6. Sox didn’t score in the first; let the whining begin.
  7. He's earned the job? Off of what? Is it that .228 average or the .294 OBP or the .582 OPS?
  8. Price has had problems when he gets north of 90 pitches.
  9. Exactly. To paraphrase my Bull Durham reference, if Price thinks he pitches better with Leon behind the plate, then he does.
  10. Nope, Price allowed 3 hits as Davis got his first major league hit in the 6th.
  11. It's a better comparison than you think. Cy Young was a pretty good hitting pitcher, with a slash line of .210/.234/.516 in the deadball era. Leon over 7 years is .229/.293/.635 in a decidedly different era for hitting.
  12. Nice play by Devers; seems like most of his fielding problems occur on plays where he has time to think. If he just has to react, he is usually okay.
  13. Agreed. He's got all the numbers, traditional and modern.
  14. So what if he did? They have worked very well together all season, why mess with success?
  15. And has been the norm lately, later in the game he probably will.
  16. Because to quote Crash Davis: "If you believe you're playing well because you're getting laid, or because you're not getting laid, or because you wear women's underwear, then you *are*! And you should know that!" Price has pitched extremely well with Leon behind the plate most of the season. And he sure has done well so far tonight.
  17. At least they broke up the string of pennants by the Evil Empire. If the Guardians had not won the AL that season, the Stankees would have won 10 straight pennants from 1949-1958. As it was, New York went 103-51 that season to finish second. The Whiite Sox were 94-60 and ended up a very distant 3rd.
  18. Efficient outing by Velazquez.
  19. No need to be snarky, I just asked if Borucki had been painting the corners all night, because he sure did the first inning I watched.
  20. That's not what I asked. And they've hit him pretty well this year before tonight.
  21. Just like last year, they got off to a poor start and have turned it on as the season has progressed.
  22. Of course, if the starter doesn't get out of it, then all the armchair managers can say I told you so.
  23. Pure 20-20 hindsight. If it was so obvious, why no posts from you saying that Eovaldi had lost it?
