    As hot as he is, bouncing it may not have worked. Maybe roll a ground ball; hard to lift that.

    He was never that good; even in 2019, he managed to walk 45 guys in 71 innings. He only gave up 29 hits that year though. I’d liken it a bit to Porcello the year he won the Cy Young; everything seemed to go right for him. But overall his career has been decidedly mediocre.

    I think it was Mussina who said you’ll start 32 games. You have everything working 8 of them, nothing working in 8 of them and something working in the others. This might be one of those second 8.

    He was on their postseason roster a year ago, starting 3 games and making one relief appearance. He went 3-1 with a 1.88 ERA and a 1.000 WHIP. That loss was 2-1. At age 27, he seems to have figured something out.

    Just a guess, but with the lefty on the mound for the Astros, it’s a chance to give him a day off. Alex went 0-3 against this kid last week with 2 Ks and a groundout to 3rd. I get the sentiment from you, but depending on how his swings looked last week, etc., Alex may or may not be the best bet. Cora has far more insight.

    He needs to play to have any hope of getting his stroke. Who are you going to bench to allow that in Boston right now? It’s not going to be Verdugo or Renfroe. Kike is a far better OF than Cordero. And who plays first? Swap Cordero for Dalbec and you have Marwin or Santana at first every game, which doesn’t sound all that appetizing.

    BTW, ND’s baseball team won their regional this afternoon to move on in the NCAA tournament, out scoring Central Michigan and UConn 50-5 in 3 games. Some guy named Kavadas hit 5 homers in the games; after the 5th today, CMU walked him 4 times, including once with men on 1st and 2nd and no one out. The next batter promptly hit a grand slam.

    For those who go back far enough, does the way Richards escapes jams remind anyone of the Spaceman, Bill Lee? Guys always on base, get 2-3 DPs to get out of innings. Richards has better stuff, but the MO similarity just struck me.

    In the past he hasn’t done well pitching 2 straight days; no idea if he’s ever pitched 3 in a row. Plus while he only threw 5 pitches last night, he did have to warm up so there is some wear and tear there.

    In theory, it could be. Get one of those Ks on a passed ball/wild pitch and then get the 4th guy on 3 pitches as well. You get credit for 4 Ks on that situation.

    King just had an Immaculate Inning, striking out the side on 9 pitches.

    That’s up 25 points from earlier this week; I recall the announcers saying he was hitting .165 sometime during the Houston series.

    For someone who throws uppers 90s to 100, he doesn’t strike out a whole lot of guys.
