  1. Right, because a kid who has thrown 0 innings above AA (and only 70 innings at that level) should be thrown to the wolves ASAP. And if he failed, you’d have been the first one with the pitchfork saying why did we take this schmuck. Let’s see what happens when he hits a rough patch (he will) and how he reacts before we anoint him Pedro’s successor, okay?
  2. Maybe he should be saying it to Xander; without his error, Perez is out of that inning. Also struck out weakly with RISP a couple of times. Wouldn’t even need an interpreter.
  3. Layne hasn’t been stellar tonight; he’s not missing borderline stuff, he’s missing obvious stuff. He’s been bad both ways though, so he’s got that going for him.
  4. Pretty sure Kimmi was quoting MLB averages, not the 2020 Sox starters.
  5. You make that sound like a bad thing.😀
  6. A good point about the minors not being open for business yet. Houck will not be brought up unless they need a spot start or one of the starters goes down. Bazardo would be more likely (especially if his future is as a pen guy). One problem with sending Taylor down is it makes the pen even more right handed; that would leave Darwinzon as the only southpaw out there and reliable is not an adjective that describes him right now. Groome is the only other lefty on the 40 man and like Houck, he's a starter (and only has 20 minor league starts as it is). Taylor has had 4 good appearances, 2 terrible ones and 2 meh. I'm not saying he shouldn't be sent down, but the alternatives aren't exactly great.
  7. Including one to 3rd base.
  8. 1-11 with RISP tonight. 5-34 over the last 3 games.
  9. That would have been tough with Arroyo at 2nd but I like the sarcasm there.
  10. It would have summed up the night perfectly if that misplay had bounced back into fair territory with Verdugo standing around the plate.
  11. It’s been one ugly game. 2-11 (so far) with RISP hadn’t helped either. This would be a true team loss.
  12. He’ll only be in if the Sox are behind; if it’s tied or they’re ahead, it will be Ottavino.
  13. I assume you’ve tied her to a chair?
  14. You do know he hasn’t given up anything in his last 4 appearances, right? And that ugly ERA is almost entirely from that horrible outing against the O’s the first weekend? None of which means anything tonight, but he’s done the job lately.
  15. I blame Andriese for taking too long to warm up. He didn’t look in a big hurry the one time they showed him in the bottom of the 6th and then the Sox went down on 12 pitches against a guy who works pretty quickly. Not sure Cora had much of a choice other than hoping ERod could give him 1 more hitter.
  16. Ideally, he'd be a SP in AAA this year, but as a Rule V guy, he has to stay up or be offered back to the Yanks (which isn't going to happen). So he may just be stuck with the long reliever role this season and then sent to one of the fall leagues to start stretching out for next year. A lot will depend on how the team goes; if the Sox stay in contention, they aren't going to do it during the season this year, If they fall down towards last year's levels, they very well might.
  17. Looked to me that they were sitting on his change-up; with the exception of Verdugo's single, I think all of those hits were off of high change ups.. The change-ups thrown by the previous Pale Hose pitchers all weekend were down and disappeared at the last second; the one's thrown by Giolito were up and did nothing except say hit me. Now he (or the catcher) may well have been tipping them; I don't know. But the ones he was throwing were not good ones.
  18. Steve Stone on the White Sox broadcast quipped “yeah, if it was 39, it wouldn’t have made it”.
  19. Stolen base helped him; Dalbec’s rocket isn’t a DP without it.
  20. White Sox have a bunch of guys who are old school make contact types. It’s refreshing to see. I’m stuck with the Chicago broadcast; when Eovaldi struck out Madrigal, they said it was only the second time he had struck out all year and even more impressive, it was only the second swing and miss he had had all year (and as a foul tip, it wasn’t even a clean swing and miss).
  21. Another effing infield hit; how many of these are they going to get this series?
  22. Why TF do you swing at that pitch on 3-0? Dumb, although I doubt it will make any difference.
  23. How many infield hits is that for Chicago today? They had a couple in the first game IIRC and at least a couple in this one as well.
