    Well Brice is the 8th (or is it 9th?) guy in the pen, so I don’t see whoever has that spot getting much leveraged situation use.

    Here’s another oddity (or two of them) that I remember as a kid: On September 17, 1968, Gaylord Perry, then with the Giants, no-hit the Cardinals. On September 18, Ray Washburn of the Cardinals returned the favor against the Giants. First time that had ever happened. On April 30, 1969, Jim Maloney of the Reds no-hit the Astros. On May 1, Don Wilson of the Astros no-hit the Reds.

    In 1990, Dave Stewart and Fernando Valenzuela pitched no-hitters on the same day; the only time it’s been done (until today?). Edit - I jinxed him.

    I think it was 1968 when Gibson was never taken out of a game from the mound. The only time he came out all season was for a pinch hitter. Otherwise, it was all complete games.

    You make crappy pitches, they will get hit. The Tigers also got several infield and other soft hits in this series. Any player will tell you sometimes those will get you out of a funk and maybe some of those got some Tigers going a little bit. They played aggressively in the base paths. Detroit started the year by going 6-6 against Cleveland, Minnesota and Houston (sweeping the Astros in Texas). That may very well be their limit as far as their good streaks go this season, but they will have a few streaks like it over the course of the season. I hate playing teams that come in a 2-16 slump (or whatever they were) because no team can play that badly forever and they will come out of it at some point. I'm more concerned over the overall sloppiness of the Sox in multiple phases of the game.

    Pitching gave up 3 runs in regulation. Overall, it was fine. Whitlock didn’t have it tonight. Whether it was the moment or it was just a bad night remains to be seen.

    Exactly; the only advantage the away team would have is that in theory, they can use their closer to finish things up if they score. But that’s no different than the old rules.

    When I was growing up in Southern Connecticut, we could get Met games on WOR Channel 9. I remember one afternoon, I want to say 1974 or 1975, I began watching a Mets-Giants game and told myself I’d watch until the no-hitters were broken up. A couple hours later, Ed Halicki completed a no-no. It’s the only one I’ve ever seen from start to finish.
