    In looking at Heaney’s game log this year, it looks like he’s either been pretty good or absolutely horrible. Not a lot of 3 runs in 6 innings type games this year.

    He’s not throwing a lot of meatballs tonight but the Sox approach again is awful; most look like they are trying to hit 5 run homers.

    Shaw hits the ball reasonably well; it’s caught. Voit hits his just a little harder and Renfroe can get to it; he hits it softer and Kike gets it. Baseball

    I sit corrected. You have to admit there is a lot of 20-20 hindsight here though.

    And it wasn’t like it was one of those a pesky at bats Gardner sometimes has where he fouls off 6 or 7 pitches with 2 strikes.

    No loophole; it wasn't a trade. The Brewers waived Shaw and would have released him had the Sox not made the claim. You can claim someone off waivers in August; that is allowed. In the past (up until 2019), if a player cleared waivers, he could be traded. Now, it's either an outright claim or, if the players clears waivers, he can be released or outrighted to the minors. No players or money change hands.

    Ethyl chloride. My guess is they stopped using it because, while it did ease pain, it also masked real injuries.

    “The talk was.” We don’t actually know. Which still leaves out the possibility that the Sox couldn’t match what other teams offered. I don’t follow the farm like some here do; I’m not going to pretend I know.

    In a vacuum, all true. However, none of us knows what constraints John Henry put on him. If the edict was to stay under the cap, then I don’t see there was much Bloom could do. Now if said constraints weren’t there, then Bloom deserves all the criticism we can muster.
