  1. Richards can clear waivers but with 8 years service time, he can’t be sent down without his consent. Richards problems have been early in starts; there’s been several times where he’s pounded in the first couple innings, then he settles down snd suddenly he’s gone 6. Short relief doesn’t seem like a good slot for him. Long relief might be the best alternative. If he has it that day and can hold the score about where it was, great. If he can’t, then a game that was probably lost stays that way.
  2. No in Price. He's signed through 2022, and I think the Sox are on the hook for about half of his $32M salary. If spotrac is correct, the Sox are over the limit this season by about $3M. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/tax/
  3. Minor nit - they moved him to Worcester, which is where he pitched yesterday. However, that doesn't change your basic thought.
  4. But from there, everything is north.
  5. For those in panic mode, here are some numbers to consider: 16-11 14-12 14-13 15-12 11-13 13-12 15-10 15-10 13-14 19-6 Those were the July records of all the Red Sox teams that made the playoffs this century. The ones in bold won the World Series. The only one that had a great July was the 2018 team and that team was incredibly consistent all season. Other than the name on the front of the uniform, is anyone confusing this team with that one in any way, shape or form? This year, the Sox went 13-12 in July. To hear some of you, they went 0 for the month. As Thunder said, ebbs and flows.
  6. What he says in public and what he said to the front office may have been vastly different. No more trades and there are no waiver deals anymore, do sny help either comes from the minors or by pitchers who have been DFA’d
  7. The rotation has been off since they went to that 6 man rotation. Not a good move; too much time in between starts for these guys to stay sharp (and I grant they 4 of them weren’t all that good right before the ASB, but IMO it has hurt them even more).
  8. Too bad that bunt hit the bag, it might have been a double or at least gotten Kike to 3rd
  9. Re. the pitch calling, I didn’t notice, but was Eovaldi shaking Vaz off at all or was EO pulling a Ssle and just saying yes to whatever Vaz put down? Just asking, but like many, I’ve never been impressed with Vazquez’s game management.
  10. For those clamoring for Sale to be brought up now, some things to consider. He hasn't pitched in 2 years. He is basically in spring training. He's only pitched 10 1/3 innings over 3 games between the Florida Coast League Red Sox and Portland. They have to get him stretched out.
  11. Also, Sale has been moved from Portland to Worcester.
  12. Roster moves: Davis and Robles have been activated. Wong optioned to Worcester Darwinzon Hernandez to the 10 day IL with a right oblique strain. That last one could hurt. Dhern has been really solid in the 6th-7th inning relief role, and obliques can take a while to heal fully, which for a pitcher it has to before they should return. It's not a phantom stint, he's been pitching pretty well.
  13. Like someone posted in the trade deadline thread, look at what teams had to give up for Scherzer and Berrios. The Sox don’t have those type guys in the system right now.
  14. No. These guys have been in a five man rotation for their entire careers. A 4 man is just inviting injury.
  15. All I’ll say is the starters have not adjusted well to the 6 man rotation. I think it’s an experiment that needs to end.
  16. With that walk, Vaz has cost the Sox 1 run so far. This hasn’t been Kike’s best situation unfortunately.
  17. Day off is one thing; benching implies something a little more long term.
  18. In favor or who? Connor Wong? He either starts hitting or he doesn’t, and he isn’t going to break out of it from the bench. If he doesn’t start hitting, the Sox aren’t going anywhere.
  19. Which is why I gave you attribution. Actually, he’ll probably throw a simulated game; I guess both the Boston and Worcester have the day off. And I think you’re right, he probably is the only one they could send directly down snd without player permission.
  20. They've been doing that; the results of the 6 man rotation have been less than stellar the past few weeks.
  21. He was sent down to keep an extra position player around (which with Rafi hurt isn't the worst idea). He will throw in Worcester on 4 days rest and then, as Splinter said, he'll be recalled to pitch one of the doubleheader games next Saturday, again on 4 days rest.
