  1. Jus imagine how good Pedroia would be hitting if he liked batting leadoff.
  2. You must have missed my posts. I've been defending your position quite a bit here against a lot of opposition. You get all the credit for your astute insight, but I did jump on board and promoted your idea. I never liked the idea that Mookie "had" to be the leadoff hitter. Apparently these pro ballplayers are more flexible about things than we give them credit for. I love how Mookie has been able to drive in more runs because of this move.
  3. It's Mookie's SLG that makes him better suited for the 3 slot. More opportunities to drive in runs. He slugged at a nice .653 clip in July.
  4. I'd rather have a player who gets on base leading off. Mookie does most of his damage with power. I'd rather increase the chance of having more men on base when he comes to bat. He's hit far too many solo HR's from the leadoff spot.
  5. It isn't revisionist history. Bosoxmal wanted Mookie hitting 3rd from day one because of his power. I wanted him moved from leadoff because his OBP wasn't good enough. Betts leading off wasn't tragic, but strategically questionable.
  6. You were on this from the very beginning. I was one who thought he shouldn't be leading off, but it took me longer to realize what a power hitter he is. You get full credit for your great insight about Mookie. I'm glad to jump on your bandwagon.
  7. Gottta sing the praises of Porcello. I was dead wrong about him. Never thought he would be this good. Absolutely outstanding this season.
  8. Just think what would happen if Pedroia liked hitting leadoff. Mookie batting 3rd knocks in 8. Mere coincidence? Hmmm! Yes, still a micro-sample size and and an outlier of a game, but it did demonstrate the general principle quite nicely. Is everyone ok with Mookie batting 3rd now?
  9. I think this team is relaxed and has fun playing the game. The problem isn't attitude, it's performance. In the post season, Farrell beat Leyland and Tito beat La Russa, two highly regarded managers.
  10. Me too, but it would be nice to see him dominate from the start of a game even if he only goes 6.
  11. I'm mildly pessimistic. As noted, killer schedule and bullpen in a shambles. Luckily, no other team in the division is dominant. Sox could squeak in. Farrell's job may depend on it.
  12. I'm looking for quality, not quantity from Price.
  13. Micro sample size results: After a day off, Betts hits 3rd and has an o-fer. But Hanley goes off and team scores 9. Be interesting to see if Betts remains in this slot or was this a short term shake up the offense move. Stay tuned.
  14. Price gets a win thanks to the offense coming back to life. Good, not great outing. Mostly good numbers, but gave up 10 hits in 8 innings. I'll give him partial credit.
  15. Sounds good to me. Bogey has good speed.
  16. Price has failed to perform up to his level of talent. He all too often lets bad innings get worse. He rarely pitches a dominant game. We can cherry pick stats and find all the good stats we want but he is not pitching consistently strong games. Too many hits given up, too many pitches leading to too many early exits. The occasional strong game is just not enough. It boosts his seasons numbers, but doesn't change his inconsistency. Look at Wright and Porcello for better consistency, even though they have had their bad outings.
  17. Thank you.
  18. Price is a problem, but it's time to send Buchholz packing.
  19. Unfortunately, my Hanley skepticism was somewhat justified. He is only a good hitter, at his best, but he really hasn't been a consistent force on offense. He is not close to the same hitter he was in his prime. Age and injuries seem to have hurt him, as I suspected they would.
  20. They should start hitting better when they return to Fenway.
  21. The manager manages the coaching staff as well as the players. He doesn't delegate everything to the coaches. He is in charge of how they function as a team and keeping them all on the same page. The team is run according to the manager's philosophy. The coaches assist the manager and should follow his philosophy. The manager also works closely with the GM on personnel matters involving both players and coaches.
  22. Henderson walked a lot, that was how he maintained such a high OBP. His lifetime BA is .279, which is fine. He accumulated 3000 hits over 25 seasons and 13,346 PAs. Playing that long is a big part of why he had 3000 hits.
  23. I agree. They have to look at Betts as the hitter he has become, not the one they expected him to be. Makes sense logically and statistically. Mookie is a slugger in a small package.
  24. That is a statistical outlier for Ellsbury.
