  1. Here is a story on why Pablo is on the DL. pablo-sandoval-disabled-list-inner-ear-infection/
  2. Pedroia is a doubles hitter with occasional HR power. He is 4th on the team in doubles despite missing all the games that he has. He is not longer in his prime, but he is not declining steeply at all. 2016 was one of his best seasons. Injury is the only thing that has hampered his performance and is really the main concern with him.
  3. I don't agree. I think platooning best serves the team needs. However, with Pedroia hurt we may need to play Pablo more. For me, team needs don't dictate that Pablo play full time all the time.
  4. Jody Reed was a lifetime .270/.349/.350/.700 hitter. He hit 27 HR's lifetime. Pedroia has a .296/.368/.376/.743 line this season. He has a .301/.366/.442/.808 lifetime line so far. He has hit 135 HR's lifetime. He is not that far off his usual production, which Reed only reached in a handful of seasons. Except for getting hurt, Pedroia is as productive as always and has not faded precipitously as Jody Reed did.
  5. And you know this how?
  6. And we all know that WAR alone is the ultimate measure of a player's abilities and ends all debates.
  7. So do you believe all auto mechanics in general are equally competent at the job or that they are all equally incompetent at the job?
  8. There are options other than being absolutist. Platooning is a viable option.
  9. How exactly does playing Panda every day for 5 weeks help the team win more?
  10. Sure, but in the meantime there is nothing wrong with platooning Panda and Rutledge. It won't hurt the team's ability to win, which should be the bottom line.
  11. My sentiments exactly. Nothing personal against Pablo. He can't help it that he is at the end of his career and signed a nice contract with the Sox. He did it out of self-interest. Now it is in the self-interest of Boston Red Sox management to cut their losses and move on. It is best for all involved, including Pablo.
  12. Is your auto mechanic fungible?
  13. He is below replacement level. JF is trying to win games, not see what Pablo can do. Pablo has earned nothing. Platooning with Rutledge is good enough for him and best for the team.
  14. If by "fine" you mean sub-par I agree. Pablo at this point in his career is not a good fielder or hitter. All the weaknesses he always had as a player are all he has left. The last thing the Sox need is to have him in the lineup. We know what we have and it is a bad contract for a player in steep decline.
  15. I would say yes. Player performances reflect on the manager's ability to get the best out of them.
  16. That has been Hanley's main problem starting with his first year with the Sox. They never should have signed a player at his age with his injury history. I was a Hanley skeptic from day one. At least we got one good season out of him in 2016.
  17. Where did you get this information?
  18. This is inaccurate. Most of the Sox hitters have excellent plate discipline. They are nothing like Pablo. Fenway is a hitters park that is great for hitting doubles. The tiny amount of foul territory really helps hitters as well as the quirky dimensions of the park. ranking-mlbs-most-hitter-friendly-ballparks-by-the-numbers
  19. Encarnacion wound up signing a 3 year deal with a 4th year team option. I don't know what makes you think the Red Sox would have had a chance of signing him at all. edwin-encarnacion-agreed-to-sign-with-Guardians-for-less-money-than-other-teams-offered/ edwin_encarnacion_says_he_sign
  20. Sox took 2 out of 3 from Houston while averaging 3 runs scored per game to Houston's 4.33. (small sample size). The offense did its job.
  21. So you have no basis for your opinion?
  22. How do you gauge cognitive ability? And what tells you that managers are lacking in it?
  23. Beside having baseball knowledge, how does general intelligence help a manager do his job? What are your criteria for a good manager?
  24. The offense has been sufficient for the team to win more than it loses. So yes, it has been doing its job. How many runs per game constitute the offense doing its job?
