  1. Not a bad order. We might be able to move mata to the 60 day and keep him in the mix a while longer.... not that we are at some major 40 man roster crunch period, right now. For argument's sake, let's assume we DFA the top 5 guys (except add Mata to 60 day IL) and replace them with only in-system players, as well as add two more to make 40. Here is my call: 39th slot: Eddy Alvarez 40th slot: Luis Guerrero Hamilton> Westbrook Dalbec > Kavadas Guttierez > Fitts Mata > to 60 day IL Valdez> Benitez
  2. Is his defense good enough for the bigs, especially at 3B/2B. soxprospects says he "looks solid" at SS.
  3. I'm wondering if we may eventually DFA Dalbec and promote Kavadas to the 40 and 26. He does bat lefty, while Cooper & Dalbec bat righty. Hickey is more of a DH/ 3rd catcher type. Has he played 1B? Meidroth may be better suited for 1B, but I think they keep him at 3B.
  4. It seems like DHam's only skill is baserunning. To me, he should be the first infielder to DFA after Reyes. I've not given up an Valdez's bat, but since his D sucks so badly, I doubt he can ever hit well enough to DH, and who wants a platoon DH? Romy might be the best one to keep for 2024, assuming he gets healthy, soon. I'd still like to see us add a SS to the 40- from outside the system.
  5. I did not realize a year was lost, but doesn't it for any farm hand we add?
  6. Sounds right. How about? Dobbins (24), Paulino (21), Jordan (21) or Bastardo (22) to Woo, at some point, this year? The Garcia brothers or E R-C to POR?
  7. MLB.com reports that... Pivetta will get a rehab start- likely Thursday Romy is taking batting practice. Whitlock is only throwing on flat ground. Whitlock has been playing catch “but he still feels it….So no mound progression for him.”
  8. We are on pace for 89 wins and missing the playoffs by 3 games (to DET's projected 92 wins.)
  9. I doubt December's Rule 5 eligibility will come into play, if we choose to add a player or two to our 40 man roster from within our system, but here are some ML ready or near MLB-ready players on our farm, who are Rule 5 eligible, this December: Jordan & Kavadas (DFA Dalbec?) Yorke and Paulino Fitts & Gambrell
  10. We had room for Cooper before Reyes was DFA'd. His spot on the 26 was opened for Coop, yes.
  11. Who do you see as the most likely to be bumped up a level, next?
  12. Good point. I doubt they use Grissom at SS. Maybe Sogard or Alvarez?
  13. When is Romy due back? Does he make the 26, when he's healthy?
  14. Maybe someone from outside the system will be added. Maybe Westbrook or Meidroth? Maybe we add a pitcher to the 40: Benitez, Guerrero, Fitts or Gambrell?
  15. They must have plans on adding a player or two. Maybe it was all about the 9 infielder thingy.
  16. Yup. That's what he said.
  17. Short-sighted. This was about 6 years and a very hopeful shot at solving the 2B issue we have had for far too long. Spread that $17M over 6 years and add Grissom's arb costs, and the money might look like a win. Is when he was drafted more important than his ranking in their system?
  18. 29 games seems like nothing, compared to many other injured Sox players. Have we forgotten how many games Sale missed?
  19. Yes, they are paying some of Sale's contract to pitch for ATL, and in return we got a recently graduated top 3 prospect from the ATL system- a guy with 6 years of team control. The final judging of this trade has a long way to go.
  20. Yes. "We can begin to see..." might have been a better choice of wording.
  21. Exactly, and just because Joely got lit up a few times, too many, does not mean the theory behind these types of choices was/is wrong.
  22. Finally, we get to see who this guy can be.
  23. Of course, but thinking you could not take out Martin due to the 3 man rule, when he had already faced 3 batters is not an opinion. It is factually incorrect.
  24. This was really about Joely, and they got it wrong. It happens. They must have seen something in him. It's not like he was on a min wage deal. None of us know what that was, but it was a mistake by Bloom in '23 and Brez in '24. Someone in the system thought he was better than this.
  25. It's okay to swing and miss on some of these type of deals, but I have confidence in Rafaela becoming good enough on O to earn his keep.
