  1. We've done okay adding pitching prospects in other ways than drafting or IFA: (I won't go way back to ERod & others) Whitlock Winckowski Schreiber Bernardino Slaten Fitts Sandlin Gambrell Penrod Benitez Olivarez Judice
  2. Do the math for '20 and '21, and tell me which star(s) we trade away to make the budget. Take away all the signings, and despite many being bad or so,so, who plays all our open positions?
  3. Later, yes, but you have to include half-Price, too. They spent next to nothing in 2020 and in 2021 we spent $10M on Richards, $8M on Ottavino, $7M on Kike, $5M on Perez and $3M each on Renfroe & Marwin. That's over $35M, but not as much as Betts + 1/2 Price added to the raises these guys got (Do we trade Sale or Bogey to keep Betts? Would we still be a contender?) $15M>$25.6M Sale (AAV, more in actual salary) $12M> $20M Bogey $4.3M> $8.3M ERod That's over $22M right there. It's not BS. 2020: Betts + 1/2 Price= $43M (-$16M since Price opted out for COVID)=$27M $27M + $22M in raises=$49M 2021: Betts + 1/2 Price= $46M Look, I wanted to keep Betts at any cost, but let's not pretend all our problems would have been solved, had JH kept the same budgets in place. Better? Yes. Still major issues? Yes. By the time we signed Story, we were back to what we would have paid Betts.
  4. It's not worth the effort. Words have alternative meanings to some.
  5. Of course, and that happens, at times.
  6. Maybe he can get his OPS vs LHPs up to the Yaz number of .693.
  7. I don't see many posters predicting trades, unless it's tongue-in-cheek. Some make suggestions on what they think might help the team, and whether they think the Sox will even consider it or not, is far from the intent.
  8. One of mine came true many moons ago: "Sox should sign Cody Ross." (Then, he had a career year.)
  9. Does this get you to have some hopes he can make an impact in the bigs?
  10. Body strain.
  11. That's why I wondered why the Yanks would do this. They'd have to be totally soured on Rodon.
  12. I doubt JH agrees to increasing the spending, but I'd seriously consider this. I have to ask, why would the Yanks want Yoshida?
  13. I don't disagree, but many of us said the same thing about our farm, when Bello, Crawford, Houck and Wink were there. We also were able to add prospects Whitlock, Slaten, Bernardino and others without drafting them. That being said, I have very little hopes in our prospects, especiallt starters.
  14. One could argue .400 was overperforming.
  15. I'm not thrilled about this year's team, either, despite the pitching surprises. Not being god-awful is not something fans want to hope for.
  16. Of course. No argument here. I was the guy willing to pay $400M/14 (pre-COVID) for Betts.
  17. Yes, better but still lacking in brightness. We spent much of the "saved money" of Betts and Price and failures, so we certainly would have been better. I'm just saying after 2019 and 2020, even with Betts, our future would not have looked all that bright.
  18. If we can't find a taker, and he can hit over .750, I suppose he could get some PAs in LF and PH. As of now, I'm not benching Duran or Abreu so he can play, either.
  19. True, but even beyond Mookie, we had a weak looking farm that produced only Houck between Devers and bello/Casas. We had aging players. We had players nearing the end of arbs. Had we kept Betts and the same budgets after 2019, our future would still not looked too good.
  20. 3B: Story (Devers) SS: Mayer (Story/Grissom) 2B: Grissom (Valdez/Yorke) 1B: Devers/Casas DH: Casas/Devers Traded: Yoshi
  21. Indeed, and Grissom has a .715 career OPS in a small sample size of 220+ PAs. As of now, he's pencilled in at 2B, because nobody looks to have a better shot at winning the job.
  22. To some, the best idea is to just keep bad fielders playing at the position they suck at. Not me. The team would be better, if we played guys at positions where they get less exposed.
  23. What a shame. What is the injury?
  24. We had some real stinkers before 1967, but after that year, we have not had all that many really bad years. Based on worst winning % in team history, here are our worst seasons after '67: .400 in 2020 (short season) 12th worst all time .426 in 2012 (17th worst) Right before a ring season .438 in 2014 (19th worst) Right after a ring season .451 in 1992 (24th worst) 9 wins from .500 .470 in 1994 (27th worst) Short season .481 in 1983 (32nd worst and just 3 wins away from .500 and sandwiched between winning seasons) There have really just been 4-5 really bad seasons since 1967 (58 seasons)
  25. Just Yoshida, unless you are okay with him playing LF again. Casas is not good on D at 1B. Having Devers and Casas share the DH and 1B slot 100% is not an issue. Trading Yoshida plsu half or more of his contract may be the only solution. Duran deserves to play. I'm not benching him to get Yoshida playing time in LF.
