  1. Yup. While some want to minimize the defensive aspect of runs allowed, here is something to ponder: Our staff is... 10th in xFIP at 4.03- just 0.01 from HOU and 0.03 from STL. 13th in ERA- at 96- just 1 behind CLE and 2 behind 4 teams for 8th place. (Note: I'm not praising our pitching or saying they are not a big part of our current standing, but our D has sucked, badly.)
  2. We need pitchers ready for day one, or I'm with MVP: we might as well just plan for 2026.
  3. Yes, that was a big part of the Vaz trade criticism, but some were pissed that it sent a message to the team, we were punting, despite taking two forks, at once. It was mostly the "must win now" crowd. All-in-all, McGuire and Pham did okay to good, and Abreu was a great get. EValdez may someday be a decent MLB hitter, but a platoon DH does not have much of a future. The year Bloom traded for Schwarber and added Robles, Davis, Iggy and Shaw was a very good mid season job. IMO, Bloom did not do enough in the mid-season, either buying or selling, but he did fine in 2020 (Pivetta), 2021 (Schwarber, Robles, Iggy & Shaw,) okay in '22 (Abreu) and nothing in '23. Brez has had a terrible deadline record in his one try (Jansen being the only good move.) He did okay getting Dom Smith, mid season.

  5. I was shocked we got anybody to take Diekman off our hands with no cash involved. Getting McGuire, who actually played very well for us, that year, was the best move for that year. The deal that got the most criticism was the best one: Vas for Abreu & EValdez.
  6. Maybe, our best hope id they alternate time on the IL, and never are hurt, at the same time.
  7. I'm only talking about how I viewed the trades. Also, I actually liked Max Fergusen more than Hosmer, in that trade. We needed a 1Bman from May on, that year. I think that was why he "talked up" Hosmer. I don't think a single person here fell for it.
  8. Brez is going to have to connect on his winter moves. No more Gios. He'll have to do better on his deadline deals, if he doesn't, and again, no more Paxton Sims & Garcias. He did well with O'Neall and Criswell, and maybe the Dugo trade, but we need a real good success rate, especially if JH if tight-fisted, again.
  9. I'm not for trading Rafaela.
  10. Gio was the one guy we signed without an injury history, but it made little difference. I do admire the effort.
  11. Bieber may get back to Cy Young form, and being only 29 is nice. His Cy Young season was his 12 start 2020 season. He placed 4th in the voting in 2019 and 7th in 2022. That's an impressive 4 year stretch: 2.91 ERA/ 2.95 FIP (149 ERA+ and 1.05 WHIP with 11Ks to 2 BB per 9) 92 GS out of maybe 110 available starts is a decent 84% mark, but not great. He's had 23 GS out of 65 in the last 2 years. This worries me to no end. I'm worn out looking at our long pitching IL list, every year.
  12. I don't like to have to always keep an eye on the budget, whenever suggesting moves to improve the team. I agree, we should not have to be this restrictive, but facts are facts. Of course, if JH is going to pocket the "saving" we might get by trading Yoshida for someone like Taylor, then I'm firmly against the idea. If Brez is handed a budget and told, if he cuts here, and can spend that much there, then I'm looking at ways to improve pitching without taking a big bite out of the O. If we can replace Yoshida's bat with Anthony or Campbell, and play Abreu-Ref at DH and 4th OF, there is a chance the O improves or stays even.
  13. Any way to view the scores before it's closed?
  14. Yes, indeed. However, if go by the idea that JH is setting a firm winter spending budget, I would think any money Brez saves would/should be added to the net balance. (I don't think they did with Sale, since they ended up spending less in '24 than '23, but maybe that was part of what Brez had to work with on day one.
  15. I never viewed Hosmer as the big get, but they did talk him up. Pham was bigger and I liked the Abreu/Valdez trade most.
  16. Hopefully we add the "savings" to the existing winter budget and do better. Better luck might help, too.
  17. The DSL Sox won the first game of the championship series, today, 3-1 in a rain shortened game.
  18. I will say the Garrett Cooper addition rivaled the steaming pile of Hosmer. Then, somebody doused Dom Smith with some AXE Deodorant. It's interesting to note that these guys still lead the team in PAs at... 1B: Dom Smith 247 (Casas 140, Dalbec 48, Romy 37, Cooper 32) 2B: E Valdez 175 (DHam 118, Grissom 83, Westbrook 39, Sogard 38, Romy 32, Reyes 16)
  19. Not with me. I'd like to use the savings to spend on pitching and think we can get an .850 OPS with an Abreu-Ref platoon at DH in 2025, so no drop off. (Anthony in RF.) Abreu would also make for a solid 4th OF option.
  20. How about Yoshida for Taylor? No money added.
  21. You mean the savings of what is remaining on his $12M deal, so maybe $2.5M, max.
  22. Agreed, and many of the most beloved Sox players of the past 2 decades were obtained by trade or free agency: Pedro, Manny, Papi, Schilling (not so much now,) Lowell, VTek, JD and Sale. I loved those teams of the mid to late 70's more than any others. Of course, I was a kid/teen, at the time, but they were fun to watch. When that team was torn apart, mercilessly, it was a giant gut punch
  23. One thing I have seen often, this year that has really opened my eyes about Duran. Several times, on singles to LF, the defender is picking up the ball in short LF, while Duran is just rounding 3B. It looks like he should be out by a mile, on a good throw, but he beats the throw easily with his speed and ability to slide well. He brings so much to this team. I love watching this guy!
  24. I do see a difference: Bloom could not bring himself to make the big trade. Like the deal or not, Brez tried to make a deal that was major. On being in "the mold," he missed on Gio, due to an injury to a guy with no injury history. That was not Bloom's "mold." Bloom's "mold" was to sign injury prone pitchers and pray they recover and do well. His indecision at the deadlines and winter was paralyzing and a major reason he was let go. Brez made some bad that failed, but he tried. I don't see the similarity, except Brez has not had success with his choices, so far. Bloom messed up, year after year.
  25. The story stated, "After the teenage McCready met Clemens at a Fort Myers bar called The Hired Hand, she returned with the Rocket to his hotel room, but there was no sex that night," sources told The News. The girl later said she could not refute anything in that story. I'm not a 100% certain what happened, but it whatever did, it was inappropriate at some level. You asked why I thought it was "highly likely" they did something, and I gave my reasons. I asked if you think it was likely or not, and it's okay, if you don't know what to think.
