  1. I am near certain, we try to extend Crochet, but he has to agree, AND more importantly, we have to offer something fair- something we often do, shortly after trading for someone, but not as often for long time Sox stars. Pedro was extended shortly after the trade. The Schilling trade included an agreed upon extension. (We later gave him $8M for one wasted year.) Beckett was extended. (Was extended a second time in 2010) I think Lowell was extended, too, but not right away. AGon was extended. Porcello was extended. Others with longer years of control when acquired were eventually extended, too, like Sale. We wish we would have extended Adrian Beltre.
  2. Some early mock drafts have these players 13-15: 15-14-13 Bleacher report: Aiva Arquette Ore St, Devin Taylor. Eli Willits USA Today: Tre Phelps, Sean Gamble, Aiva Arquette Future Stars: Eli Willits, D Taylor, Ike Irish My MLB: Ike Irish, Brendon Summerhill MLB.com rankings: Cam Cannala, Ma Belyeu, Luke Stevenson
  3. I'm not shy about trading prospects, even if we are spending, but I am more in the camp of trying to keep a strong farm from near ML readiness, to A+ and AA ball to the rookie leagues and Salem. Having a source of cheap players allows for more targeted spending.
  4. That line-up is WS caliber. Bregman at 3B and Devers to share 1B, with Story at SS and Campbell/DHam at 2B makes us a top 10 D. Adding Crochet and Manaea, which pushed Crawford to the pen makes the rotation top 15 and the pen about the same or better, if we get by with few injuries. Adding Chapman, Crawford, Whitlock, Hendriks and Wilson to the pen should improve enough to offset losing Jansen & Martin.
  5. I have to think A is in play, but I'm not thinking that was true, here. I do not think B is true. I'd go... C E D (I like first part of D, but I do not think JH will spend the full $750M on others.)
  6. Say something right! LOL. (BTW, I've found myself agreeing with you more and more. It's about time you started coming over to the right side.)
  7. If Mayer ever wins the SS job, Story could be an excellent 2Bman over his last 2-3 years wit BOS. It's always about his health.
  8. I doubt we go two from the first group, but 1 and 1 is feasable. I'm still waiting to see it- to believe it. I know e "CAN," but will we "DO?"
  9. I disagree. You don't K 14/9 without "stuff." 13.8 MLB career 13.7 Japan 13.4 AA 12.5 AAA
  10. That would be something. I'd say we would be big faves to make the playoffs and maybe even be in the top 5-7 odds to win the WS. With HOU looking like a rebuilding team, and the Yanks losing Soto, the AL top teams need more additions to stay highly rated. The other thing about your picks is that we'd surely trade Abreu, if we added TH. That would bring us another key piece (maybe a big pen upgrade.) With Bregman at 3B, our defense could approach top 10 after being bottom 5. 1. Duran CF 2. Bregman 3B 3. Devers 1B/DH 4. Tesocar LF 5. Casas DH/1B 6. Story SS 7. Anthony RF 8. Campbell 2B 9. Wong-Narvaez Bench: Rafaela, DHam, Yoshida/Grissom, Narvaez Damn, that's nice!
  11. True. I was referencing your comment about trying to be a SP'er, then going back to doing very well in the pen- like Starhm did with Philly.
  12. I think SEA wants ML players, and the word is a RHB at 1B, not Casas. I'm sure he would not refuse ML ready or near ready ML prospects like Anthony, Campbell or Mayer, but I doubt the Sox offer that for an expensive pitcher. We could just sign Flaherty or Manaea for near the same AAV.
  13. The talk was, he'd play 2B for us. If that is the case: pass. Move Devers to 1B/DH, and I'm listening.
  14. I prefer the DHern example to Ort. First 3 seasons (79 IP) 14.2 K/9 Only 7 hits per 9 IP 7.4 BB/9 was the killer In the last 100 years of MLB, there have been 2865 pitchers with 80+ IP: 14.2 would rank 6th. (His 13.8 K/9 ranks 8th, all time. His 7.4 BB/9 ranks 8th worst!)
  15. Hugh, I totally agree on spending, actually the lack of it. We need to spend to get over the hump. Trading away the whole future will just get us back to where we were for the last 6 years. I am not for trading away Campbell and Anthony. I'd really like to keep Mayer and some others, too. I'd much prefer we sign some FAs, hopefully not the real old ones, but a few. When I suggest a trade, it is based on the idea that JH will not spend big to fix the holes I see needing fixing.
  16. I don't think it's as bad as you think, but we sure lack the highest promising pitchers on the farm. We have a nice quantity of somewhat promising pitchers, for what that is worth.
  17. I do think Brez has a winter budget to be able to spend on one big name or a couple mid-level FAs. A trade like you suggest would be a nice compliment to adding a couple FAs. We still have an unbalanced roster with a lack of pitching.
  18. I totally agree, but I know better. I also like 3 years of a 29 year old pitchers better than 7-8 years of a 30-31 year old pitcher.
  19. I think he can be a MLB, opening day, but more likely summer/fall of '25. I would have prefered we started the year with a vet defensive catcher on a 1 year deal- as the co-catcher with Wong. Teel could be called up during 2025. How much closer do you think he is?
  20. Carlos Estevez might be a nice pen addition. 2023-2024: 3.22 ERA/ 3.61 FIP (1.22 WHIP) .554 OPSA in 2024
  21. Agreed. I have voiced my concerns about this for a while. Only one season above 65 IP, his whole life.
  22. He's been one of the RP'er the last 2 years combined. Career: 5.64 SP (.861 OPSA) 3.96 RP (.701) 2.28 ERA 2023-2024 (all as RP) 2.54 FIP and 0.944 WHIP 3.6 fWAR places him 4th among RP'ers with 110 IP 26% K-BB% (4th best) #1 in FIP- at 60 (6th in xFIP) A nice 0.68 HR/9 rate
  23. Ahhh... I remember that, now. Yes, I agree- little hope he wants to play in BOS.
  24. I think Hoffman would be a nice fit in the pen. Maybe we go one year on Yates, and hope he has one more good year in him.
