    I can't believe a 1400 PA bad sample is bad luck. BAbip is also driven by hard hit rates, and his are down a lot. He's not hitting the ball as hard as he was when he was a good to very good batter. Maybe some bad luck could have gotten him to 700 over the last 650 ot .745 over 1400. It's still a major drop off and a significant reason our offense has had long stretches of issues. Another factor is this: 1200 PAs from 2025-2026 696 batting first (.306 BA/.720 OPS) BTW .309 BAbip. 157 PAs up 3rd (3rd most on team) (.821 OPS is nice) 91 PAs up 5th (4th most) .436 OPS 23 PAs up 2nd and 4th, so 957 of 1200 PAs batting 1-5 with that OPS. That's not his fault they batted him there, but it and he hurt the team.

    So true, but it's the long sample size that worries me most on Duran. .721 since 8/31/24 (1432 PAs) .641 since 8/19/25 (650 PAs)

    I've been one of the most critical posters on Duran, but he has done better recently. I did not realize he was doing that well, but more surprisingly.... Monasterio .662 this month. (.882 last 40 games)

    I think the risk outweighs the chance of seeing players bolt when their payday is out of JH's range.

    KC's deal is very much TBD not "egregious. No $2.25M contract can ever be called that. When his pay goes up, we can talk about how he's doing then. Some called the Rafaela deal a bad one- other unnecessarily premature. Had we waited to extend him, he's cost way more now. That being said, his deal is also still TBD, but it's getting closer to knowing a lot more than we know about Roman and Kristian.

    We've had lots of talk about Story, but is IKF even in the 26 man roster conversation? (Assumung Story is added before IKF is ready.)

    I dont agree. It's the HR/FB. Tolle has the team's worst GB/FB. Whitlock's is worse than Weissert's.

    Agreed. Even old fashioned WHIP is better.

    To be fair, MVP thinks looking at WC standings before Memorial Day is absurd. I'm not sure what's so magical about one day in the schedule. A few others mentioned 6 teams between us and the WC3 slot as some sort of insurmountable aspect with 100 games to go. We passed em all in 3 weeks. Funny, right? They thought 3 months was not long enough.

    Catchers may not "call pitches much or at all, anymore, and the Challenge system has taken away some of the "pitch framing" values catchers had or didnt have, but how they handle a staff is still very important, IMO. A pitcher's comfort zone is hard to quantify, but still has enormous value with several pitchers. I do agree that their defensive value has fallen some, but I think they are close to CF and 2B. I'd go.... 1. SS (Big gap) 2T. C and CF 4. 2B (close to CF and C)

    I caught flack for posting the WC standings when we sucked and pointing out we were just 3-5 GB. I'm not saying I was optimistic, but 3-5 GB in May and early June is far from "out of it."

    We hear all the complaints when our stars bolt to free agency right before or in early prime years. I like the strategy, even if we swing and miss on some. BTW, the KC and Bello extensions are still very much TBD. Bello makes $6.2M this year and has single-handedly saved the pen from extra IP needed. KC is making $2.3M. Yes, their AAVs are higher, but that will be judged after their final years of their deals. Another point: Brez never locked up first rounder Mayer. Phew!

    While the Rutschman deal was fairly short term-minded, for the most part Brez & Henry have been building this roster for the longer term. Some of the extensions given out have been roundly criticized, but the overall outlook on key players being under control at reasonable prices for 3+ years looks pretty solid. SP: Crochet 5, Suarez 5, Tolle 5, Bennet 5, Bello 4 (Crawford 2, Houck & Oviedo 1) RP: Chapman 1, Whitlock 2, Slaten & Weissert 3, TGuerrero 1, Moran 4 C: Rutschman 1, Wong 2 1B: Contreras, Casas & Romy 2 2B: Mead 4, Seigler 5, Sogard 5 3B: Durbin 5, Eaton 4 SS: Arias 5, Monasterio 3, Story 1 LF: Anthony 8, Duran & White 2 CF: Rafaela 5 RF: Abreu 3 DH: Campbell 8 Only RP, C and 1B need attention in 2 years.

    One could argue Brez has traded as many higher ranked prospects as DD did- maybe more. While the 2018 broke records and had a pretty nice young core of players (Devers 21, Beni 23, Betts & Bogey 25) the years of control were not as "locked up" as the young core, today. Other key players: ERod 25, Vaz 27, Nate, Barnes & JBJ 28, Sale & Porcello 29, JD, Kimbrel & Holt 30, Price & Moreland 32, Pedey 34. The "controlled" players were mostly getting older, while the Betts & Bogey free agency was looming large: 4 yrs Price, Vaz, Beni & JD 3 yrs Pedey, Devers, ERod & Barnes 2 yrs Betts & JBJ 1 Moreland, Bogey 0 Sale, Pom, Kimbrel & Kelly The Brez roster sees many key players locked up for 3+ Yrs, and they are mostly younger.

    DH isnt even the top hitting position, but they never make an error on defense. .781 1B (Sox .882) .739 DH (Sox .658) .735 RF (.805) .719 LF (Where you, Jim Rice?) Sox .669 .716 3B (Sox .731) .707 CF (.753) .701 2B (.674) .699 SS (.667) .686 C (.644)

    ERA and ERA+ are not good stats for RP'ers who often only need to get one or two outs in an inning they enter. His .723 OPS against and 1.26 WHIP are far from bad, but not very good either. Career .693 is not bad at all.
