  1. I'm not sure he will be Schwarber '21 cheap, but I'm okay with rentals, if they don't cost us Arias, Tolle, Clarke of any higher ranked prospects. Bleis for Ozuna? Sure. Cespedes? Probably. Mullins & Jordan? Probably.
  2. Huh? Saying a guy was indecisive is not praise. Pointing out how he missed on just about every major signing, several times, is not praise. The only thing he did well was build up the farm, which was made easier when you finish in last place, so often and you trade players for prospects and get comp picks for letting all your stars walk.
  3. .757 is borderline elite, these days... LOL! He's got 37 HRs in his last 680 ABs, If he stinks, then we can get him for peanuts.
  4. You think he'd be selected, if not protected? We do have a pretty full OF, even 2 years from now, and Jh Garcia is in front of Bleis. (Cespedes and KC may end up in the OF, too.) I could see Bleis included in a deadline trade.
  5. We could have traded Casas, but I think we insisted on including Masa without enough cash going the other way. I can't remember all the trade suggestions I made to SEA, many involving taking back salary like Garver's and or Haniger's to help balance out Masa. I think one was Masa, Casas & Abreu for Woo plus their two salary dumps. I think the main talk was Masa & Casas for Castillo and his big contract, but SEA did not want Masa, or maybe they wanted us to pay way more cash than we wanted to include. I'm not sure what else was out there. I tried things like Masa and ___ for Arenado, but not Casas.
  6. Bloom, and it's not even a close call. Grissom wilted. Gio wilted. Sale was grafted onto Jack's beanstalk.
  7. Depends on a lot of things. Trades. We could trade for O'hearn or Hoskins and play Romy/Toro at 2B. (DHam when Toro is at 3B, but that is not an optimistic sight to see.) KC's play in AAA. How well the guy(s) playing 2B do from now until AUG 1st.
  8. Good point, but I just don't like the idea of trading for a rental. Now, getting out from under a big chunk of Story's contract has real appeal. Opening up SS for Mayer, does, too, but the idea made much better sense, when we viewed Campbell as our FT 2Bman. Now, Story looks better there. Romero is to iffy. Arias is too far away. Cespedes might be worse on D than Campbell. Romy/DHam does not have much umf. If we got a 1Bman, I'm not sure Romy/Toro at 2B does either.
  9. Nice article. You don't see a whole lot of sideways trades at the deadline (Vet for vet) but maybe we trade Duran or Abreu for a 1Bman and RP'er. A team like MIL might part with Hoskins for something other than prospects. (Note: I'm not for trading multiple years of Duran or Abreu for a rental 1Bman... or rental anything. I could see us trading one for a controllable player that fills a weak position.)
  10. Maybe with communication skills, but Brez is bold: Bloom was timid and indecisive. Bloom wilted under pressure.
  11. It's Kristian with a "K." I only bring that up over the grief you gave me for calling Tyler "O'Neal." This is about winning, now, but also about having KC play everyday. He'll be back. I doubt he's the next Grissom.
  12. I'm wondering if the ask for Eldridge ever progressed to us offering back a lower ranked prospect with Devers.... like Devers plus Mullins & Romero for Eldridge & Hicks. (No Harrison or Tibbs.) It would have probably taken more...like Bleis & Cespedes or Sandlin.
  13. Well, we can't call Brez a wimp. The guy is bold and decisive, but still carries the Sox torch on miscommunication and botched personal relationships. What baffles me is that we are so dysfunctional that apparently nobody ever sat down one on one and even asked Devers to play 1B. (Telling him to, would have been better than what we did.)
  14. I meant to put Paez in BOLD. I did put Hickey and Drohan in BOLD, but do not think they will be protected. I doubt Monegro is, either. I don't see a big roster crunch, this winter, but maybe that is based on my hopes that we spend all our winter budget on 2-3 players and not 4-5 or 6. Mullins is a close call, to me. I know Bleis is kinda far away, but you don't see any chance we protect him? I can see us trading Jordan & Monegro.
  15. Yes, I meant that, but I did mistakenly say Brez talked to Devers. My bad. The only "talk" was, sadly, through the media. Do these guys ever learn anything? They keep rinse and repeating the same mistakes.
  16. Trades for longer term players are usually made in the winter. They are usually less expensive, too.
  17. We have to take one game at a time, and the team can't look beyond the next game, but we can. We absolutely have to make our move, right now. No game is easy, but the games we have scheduled up to the ASB are ones we can and have to win. The games after will test us about as much as one could imagine. Games before ASB: 3 @ SFG 3 @ LAA 3 v TOR 3 v CIN 3 @ WSH 3 v COL 3 v TBR We have 6 games vs the two ALE teams ahead of us, plus these next 3 vs a very good SFG team. The other 12 are games we must and should win each series. (8-4) If we can go 5-4 in the tough ones and 8-4 in the others, we can probably be sitting pretty well going into this brutal post ASB stretch: 3 @ CHC 3 @ PHI 3 v LAD 3 @ MIN 3 v HOU (Trade deadline before game 1) 3 v KCR 3 @ SDP 3 @ HOU This is 8 straight series vs good to very good teams.
  18. Jh Garcia might be my #2 or 3 by November.
  19. Soxprospects.com has... 3. Arias 4. Perales 5. Tolle 6. Valera 7. Jh Garcia 9. Romero 10. Clarke 11. Early 12. Sandlin 13. Bleis 14. Cespedes 15. Gonzales (1. Anthony, 2. Mayer, 8. Dobbins will graduate.)
  20. Detroit kinda stands alone atop the AL at 48-27. The next 11 teams are within 7.5 games of each other. 43-31 HOU ALW leader 43-31 NYY ALE leader WC 41-33 TBR +3.5 on #7 40-34 TOR +2.5 on #7 39-37 BOS +0.5 on #7 37-36 CLE -0.5 37-36 SEA -0.5 37-37 MIN -1.0 37-38 KCR -1.5 36-38 LAA -2.0 36-39 TEX -2.5 (Even BAL is still "in it" at -6.5)
  21. That's crazy! It's actually 3 division leaders and 9 teams over or under the last WC slot by 2.5 games> The Sox have played 2-3 more games than most other teams, so we don't look as good in the loss column (T8) but are 6th in Ws.
  22. Dobbins will graduate, soon. Campbell already did. Guerrero, Anthony and Mayer will, before long. This may be what we see for the rankings list, this winter: 1. Arias 2. Tolle 3. Perales 4. Jh Garcia 5. Clarke 6. Early 7. Tibbs 8. Bleis 9. Ju Gonzales 10. Romero 11. Cespedes 12. Sandlin 13. Valera 14. Jordon 15. Jo Garcia 16. Taylor 17. Soto 18. Azocar 19. Ehrhard 20. Uberstine
  23. Yes, I under rated Ozuna's rental value. Maybe the deal without him.
