  1. The path is Story to the IL. Another could be Campbell to LF & trade Abreu, but we also have Anthony looking for a path (Rafaela to utility?) I doubt we trade Story.
  2. The league has changed, but the guys I listed were not 34, when we got them. We knew they would likely regress, but they were durable and younger than 30. I'd have taken Cole, Wheeler, Berrios and suggested about 10 trades for Castillo. I'd have taken Burnes (757 in last 5- 3rd in MLB) Cease (4th in IP since 2021) Gilbert, Pablo Lopez and fried (12th in IP since '21) Maybe these guys aren't like those from years past, but they are about as dependable as there is, today. We don't get guys like them. That's my point. We haven't since the Porcello and Sale trades and the Price signing.
  3. I think he might take $140M/5. I think I'd do that, and cross my fingers.
  4. Remember when we add guys like this.... Lackey almost 1400 IP in his previous 7 seasons. Price 1300 IP in 6 previous years. Sale 1016 IP in previous 5 seasons. Porcello 1073 in his first 6 MLB seasons. Of course, we signed some guys with much fewer recent workloads, but when id the last time we added a durable pitcher? (Gio had 524 IP in 3 seasons- NOPE!)
  5. $150/5 would be adding 3 years, at about $38-40M a year, assuming he'd het $30-35M for his 2 arb years, combined.
  6. Yanks losses from the 2024 team: Soto .989 OPS and 713 PAs (most on team) Torres .709 OPS in 665 PAs (4th most) Verdugo (.647 in 621 PAs) , Trevino (.642 in 234) , Rizzo (.637 in 375) , Berti (.661 in 74) Cole (IL) 3.41 in 95 IP Gil (IL) 3.50 in 152 IP Cortes 3.77 in 174 IP Holmes 3.14 w 30 svs in 63 IP Kahnle 2.11 in 43 IP & Poteet 2.22 in 24 IP Added: Fried, D Williams, Bellinger, Goldschmidt, F Cruz, A Jackson, Carrasco Projected rotation: Fried, Rodon, Stroman, Warren, Carrasco w Devin Williams as the new closer Line-up: 1. Austin Wells C 2. Judge RF 3. Bellinger CF 4. Goldschmidt 1B 5. Chisholm 2B 6. Volpe SS 7. Dominguez LF 8. Ben Rice DH 9. O Cabrera 3B Bench: LeMahieu, O Peraza, T grisham, Alex Jackson (C)
  7. Jovani Moran joins Perales, Noah Song, Brandon Neely and others on the MiLB 60 Day IL. Sandoval, Murphy and Penrod are listed on the soxprospects.com MLB 60 Day IL list on the 2025 Roster page, but not on the 40 Man Roster page.
  8. I don't think I'm extreme on Beni. It's more about being super high on Duran's D.
  9. I'm afraid to touch anything political on a sports forum, even if it's related to it, somehow. It got real nasty here, a while back.
  10. Mayer has missed about 40 games, in each of the last two seasons. He played in 77 & 78 games, or about 2/3 of the minor league seasons. This did not help his development, but he did still play quite a bit. It's too bad he got hurt just as he was called up to AAA, so playing some there in 2025 should help. I think he's ready on D. I think he has the confidence, now. IMO, he can handle the mental and emotional part of the game, even if he struggles out of the gate. It's just his issues vs lefties and breaking balls that seems to be the problem. Maybe we are overblowing it- maybe not. I think he's ready, but we have Story & Campbell, so this may help him make some strides, where needed. I guess we could ask, what if he looks awful ve lefties and breaking balls at AAA, does that mean we delay hius call-up? Cora seems to think he's ready, now.
  11. I know we were not playing a ML team, last night, but 12 Ks and no BBs was nice to see from our staff. Who gets the last pen slot? Kelly or Weissert? (I'm assuming Criswell is the 7th RP'er.)
  12. As long as Story is healthy and playing plus D at SS (arm issues and all,) and Campbell is at 2B, there is no hurry on Mayer. No pressure. He does need to figure out some things at the plate, and there may be an extended learning curve, once he gets the call, but I like what I see in him.
  13. I don't think it is "clear" at all. I think beni was overrated, and Duran's ability to play plus CF makes hi significantly better, IMO. Betts was great in RF. I'm a huge JBJ fan, and always was, and he made tough plays look easy. He had great instincts and a quick jump- always on the straightest route to the ball. He did lack speed, but he wasn't slow. I do agree, Rafaela needs to prove he is equal or better. Let's see.
  14. With all the Yankee injuries and losing Soto in the offseason, I can't see them as faves in 2025. They are close, but they seem to lack the depth needed to overcome all these missing pieces.
  15. soxprospects projected rotations on the farm: AAA: Priester, Dobbins, Wink, Davis, Stock, Drohan AA: Sandlin, Early, Paez, Monegro, Wehunt, Uberstine A+: Mullins, Wu-Yelland, Tolle, Clarke, Ingrassia, Kirwin (D Rogers, Rivera, Carlson) A-: Valera, Tygart, Aita, O'Donnell, Brooks, Futrell FCL: Reyes, Fajardo, Y Ruiz, Polanco, C Lee
  16. Agreed, although it will be a bit diluted due to all the IL players from the big club: Sandoval, Penrod, Murphy, Perales (60 Day or possible 60 Day to come) Giolito, Crawford, Bello, Yoshida (15 Day & 10 Day or longer w Rehabs) That's 5 or 6 guys from the 26 that took talent from AAA (Fitts, Priester, Kelly, but I'm not sure who "took" Yoshida's slot. Romy?) soxprospects.com has this for the AAA opening day roster: Priester, Dobbins, Winck, Davis, Stock, Drohan Guerrero, Weissert, Mata, Adams, Fulmer, Moore, Mills, I Campbell, Van Belle, Adames (ICoffey on IL) Sabol, Zavala, Kolzsvary Hickey, Grissom, Toro, Mayer, Anthony, Eaton, Thompson, Sogard, McDonough, Sikes I find the AA rotation very intriguing: Sandlin, Early, Paez, Monegro, Wehunt, Ubersting!
  17. I totally agree, and while I'd like to lock some of these guys up for longer terms, I can understand the hesitancy to do so, when pitchers get hurt so often. Our highest contracts to pitchers have been: $210M/7 Price $145M/5 Sale (extension) $82.5M/5 Lackey (figure in inflation) $68M/4 Nate $52M/6 Dice-K (plus $52M posting fee- figure in inflation) Brez & Co. have made strong efforts to improve the quality and quantity of drafting and IFA pitching additions. They have tried to improve development systems. They have also acquired many pitching prospects via trade and Rule 5, while also adding several vets with skills or past success.
  18. True. Maybe 20-22 guys know they have a slot, every year. It may affect a starting role vs a bench role, but not much.
  19. While I often agree that ST'ing does not matter much, tell that to Newcomb.
  20. Good points. The reason I said "starting OF" was Yaz in '75 was not really the "starting" LF'er. The back-ups were excellent defenders, too. I did think of the 2018 OF, and I could see calling them as good or even better, but I like this one more. Duran> Beni Rafaela can be better than JBJ, but it is not proven, yet. Betts> Abreu
  21. I'm happy for him. Have we announced who goes on the 60 Day IL to make room for he and K Campbell?
  22. Yanks place Gil on the 60 and sign Ryan Yarbrough.
  23. The only everyday players who loses team control before 3 years are Bregman (opt outs after 2025 & 2026) and Refsnyder (after 2025.) While Ref is a valuable batter vs LHPs, his defense is not good. We have Anthony in the wings, which should be an upgrade. (JH Garcia may be in the picture by 2026.) Losing Bregman will hurt, and we should not think about moving Devers back to 3B. Bt the time Bregman leaves, we may very well have an in-house solution as we decide who best can play SS, 2B and 3B among Story, Campbell, Mayer and subs like DHam, Romy & Grissom. (Arias and Romero may be knocking on the door by 2026 and 2027.) Yoshida has 3 years, too, but he lacks a clear roster slot, going forward, especially if Devers stays at DH.
