  1. Judge is amazing, but i don't think a one man team can win.
  2. Bedard was a pretty good pitcher in 2011, before we got him. He missed the 2010 season, but in the 4 seasons prior: 39-23 3.40 3.56 FIP and 1.23 WHIP Agree on Wake. They started the year with Lester, Lackey, Beckett, Buch and Dice-K. For depth, they had Wake, Miller and weiland before adding Bedard. I've seen worse depth, but it was hard to foresee every SP'er hitting the wall at the same time.
  3. I'm expecting maybe 160-175 IP from Crochet in 2025- plus maybe some playoff innings.
  4. They do look balanced, and with so many pre-prime and prime players, improvement should be expected, but losing Burnes and Santander will be hard to overcome. I don't think the O's got any better, but there is potential to do it.
  5. I've been pretty tough on our closer situation, but I do have hopes we can be decent, and a lot depends on Chapman. Walk a few- K a few more. Bringing him in with bases loaded will be scary, but there is hope he gets the Ks. The way I look at it, I have to think our pen would be a solid plus, if every guy we have, now, was pushed down one notch on the high leverage depth chart. 1. Solid closer 2. Chapman- 8th inning and occasional closer 3. Slaten- 8th inning 4. Hendriks- 7th & 8th 5. Whitlock- 2-3 innings/high leverage 6. Criswell- 2-3 innings/mid leverage 7. Wilson 8. Kelly or Weissert What a difference a solid closer would make for the rest of the pen- not just the closer role upgrade.
  6. Headline, tonight: "Yanks put 8 on IL." (not counting Cole, Gil...)
  7. Having most of the toughest teams in the NL helps our chances. 1. We have better odds to make the playoffs. 2. We should have any easier path through the playoffs to get to the big dance than the NL teams. 3. We all know how we do, once we get to the dance.
  8. Yes, rest or short term: Devers at 3B Longer term: Mayer.
  9. Cora did say, Mayer will be the first infielder called up. He won't be called up to ride the bench.
  10. Good to see you back, Max. The 2022 season had a budget $26M more than '21, the playoff year. By the end of the season, it was $19M more than '21. Of course, there was so much cut after 2019 and before 2021, that the gains were really just illusionary. We did cut from '22 to '23 and '23 to ;24, despite all the empty promises.
  11. Losing Soto and not having Stanton as a hopeful to take up some of the slack is not good. I realize Torres was not loved by some Yankee fans, but he was a plus, and now he's gone. I just don't see the talent, this year. If Cole and Gil were healthy, you'd be close to a contender for the playoffs. Now, I don't see it. (With the whole AL looking underwhelming, there is still hope for almost every team... almost.)
  12. Yes, Devers will play 3B, when Bregman sits. I might be the only one hoping Devers picks up a 1BMan's mitt, and give it a go. He could rotate with Casas at 1B and DH, and both could play 160 games.
  13. I'm not sure SEA got much better, but everyone else got worse in their division and in much of the AL.
  14. It's not lying or misleading, if Bloom meant what he said to Devers about being the longtime 3Bman. We switched GMs. Did they handle it well, maybe not. Bregman at 3B and devers at DH (maybe 1B, someday) is the best alignment. It was obvious to me- day one.
  15. “Raffy’s going to DH. We all are in the winning business. He understands that.” -Cora
  16. It was the obvious choice- Day one. Nothing changed.
  17. Besides naming Chapman the closer, "big surprise," Cora had named Slaten, Whitlock, Hendriks and Wilson, earlier, but yesterday he named Weissert and Kelly. One slot remains, I'm thinking maybe Criswell, but maybe it's lefty Bernardino. Newcomb is the 5th starter. Abreu is "100% on the opening day roster."
  18. I didn't realize this was your criteria.
  19. Well, we did go younger at closer and kept up the streak of going with aging pitchers as closers. One time great, Kenley Jansen is 37 years old and 177 days, while once great Chapman is 37 years old and 26 days. We have the young sprout, Liam Hendriks, waiting in the wings at 36 and 44 days. I do hope Chapman can do well and hold the job, all year. A merry-go-round closer position would likely spell doom for this promising team.
  20. A AAA closer is not a "real closer."
  21. On paper does not win games, granted, but it feels better looking good on paper in March than looking like a fringe 4th place team.
  22. Yes, a make believe closer holding the slot on a team without a "real closer."
