    It's not uncommon for a 5 game sample size to have a few players with really bad numbers, but this is god-awful. These numbers would be really bad, if they were batting averages, but they are OPS: .000 DHam (7 PAs) .133 Rafaela (15) .170 Casas (18) .174 Devers (23) .180 Wong (17) Then, there is Story at .321 and Bregman at .488. Only 3 guys have 16+ PAs and are doing okay or better: 2.114 Abreu (16) 1.188 Campbell (20) .776 Duran (23) Others are at .833 Narvaez in 4 PA, 1.333 Refsnyder (3, but just don't call it a "platoon") and 1.350 Romy (5 PAs.) Sad numbers, indeed for 7 of 13 batters.. On the pitching side, we still have 7 pitchers with 0 ERS allowed: Whitlock (4 IP) Weissert (3) Kelly (2) Wilson (1.2) Bernardino (1.1) Chapman and Criswell with 1 IP. (14 IP total) 3.60 Crochet (5 IP) 4.50 Fitts (6) 6.35 Houck (5.2), 8.31 Buehler (4.1) 9.00 Newcomb (4.0) 18.00 Slaten (2)

    You can also make the point that Mayer was not chosen by several other GMs, but Bloom did not pass on him. He did still have other choices, even beyond Lawlar. I think some posters were pointing to Lawlar's earlier call-up as evidence that Bloom kinda-maybe shoulda taken him.

    And, with Bogey's apparent decline, we aren't hearing about the loss of Bogey much, at all. The same happened with the Beni trade. (The JBJ trade still sucked, but at least DHam is giving us something back.) Had we signed Bogey, would JH have spent this much on this offseason? Bloom made some major mistakes, no doubt, but here are some of his draftees and IFA signings: Campbell (comp pick for Bogey) Anthony Mayer Guerrero, Jh & Jo Garcia, Arias, Romero, Early, Cespedes, Bleis, Paez, and others Teel, Montgomery & Meidroth (Crochet trade) Yorke (traded for Priester) E R-C (traded for Narvaez) Traded or Rule 5 drafted for these prospects: Whitlock, Wink, Fitts, Sandlin, Wong & others

    It seemed a few posters were certain he would never spend, again. I had my doubts, too. Serious doubts, especially after the 2023 season. This is indeed a good sign, but he can't let up next winter, or this summer.

    I do think they try to project how slowly or quickly a long term signing will decline.

    Had Brez sucked, you'd have said, "See, I told you we settled on the 12th guy, so what should we have expected." (You still might say it, if we finish last, this year.)

    The way he words things, he leaves the door open to saying he was right, no matter what happens.

    He will likely be known most for trading Betts.

    No doubt, Bloom failed to do what they hoped he could do. He fell way short on the hopes of bargain basement success stories, and too many of his largest signings failed miserably, despite some of them only being $10M/1, so I guess success rates on those types of deals do not have great track records. His deadline fumbles were legendary, but in '21, he did bring in Schwarber, Robles, and later Iggy & Shaw. The Vaz for Abreu deal was nice, but yes, the ho-hum summer deals left all of us scratching our heads- bot those who wanted us to sell and those who wanted us to buy. He did pretty good with the farm, but failed to fix the farm pitching issues. He did leave us a few promising arms, but not really any wow factors. Seeing what Brez has done in less than a year and a half is pretty remarkable in comparison to Bloom, but then again, Bloom got us close to the WS in less than 2 years. The after years dommed him. Story, Yoshida, Richards, Kluber, Paxton...

    I think he meant this year plus 5-6 years= 6-7 total.

    I think $140/5 was what I projected. I went back to look, but could not find it. They bought out his final arb year (2026.) My point was about factoring that into the final amount.

    If you figure Crochet would have gotten $20M in his final arb year, the deal is really like $150M/5, or $30M x 5. That seems reasonable to me, despite his lack of workload under his belt.
