  1. We've got squat on our farm, in terms of good, ML ready catching options. Brannon is 21 and unproven. Jo, Garcia looks the most promising, but is just 20 and coming off rehab. Sabol & Zavala are typical AAA catcher depth that offer very little hope of any overall plus value. Rosario at AA needs a lot of improvement on defense. Hudson White & Juan Montero (both at GRE) and Diego Viloria at SAL are hardly worth mentioning. Kleyver Salazar (SAL) is the only other catching prospects listed in the top 60. He's at 57, Jo Garcia at 32 and Brannon at 42. It looks like we need to trade for a decent back-up catcher and give up on Wong.
  2. Thanks for this. It's a good sign that maybe our younger guys, plus Romy, might end up better than they have looked, so far. I'm still very optimistic about our everyday player core of young players. I also am excited about all the years of control we have on them and the depth at just about every position, except corner infield. I'm fairly optimistic about the strides we have made in building up our farm pitching- both in terms of acquiring more and better pitchers and improving our development practices. We may be years away from seeing those results, but Brez has also shown the willingness and ability to recognize and do what it takes to get a guy like Crochet. While his Gio, Buehler and Hendriks deals all look bad to awful, with maybe Gio doing his best at redeeming a portion of is $39M payout, Brez has also acquired a lot of good and promising pitchers in just 2 short years: Crochet Chapman & Wilson Fitts & Weissert Slaten & Criswell Harrison, Hicks, Burdi & Alcala Sandlin, Moran, I Campbell, Fajardo, J Bello, Judice & others (Trades) Tolle, Clarke, Aita, Cason, Tygart, Neeley & others (Draft) Delzine, D Reyes, Cordero, Montero & others (IFA) Sandoval remains a big unknown. That's a formidable and long list for just 1 draft and 2 off seasons.
  3. Maybe Brandon Walter is "the one that got away." By and large, Brez has added way more pitchers than he's traded away. A few have looked bad, many are still on the farm, and a few have looked pretty good to great.
  4. How low is Grissom's stock? He's still on the 40, yet these guys are on the big club, while he's still in AAA: Eaton Sogard DHam Toro My guess is, if we end up needing yet another infielder, KC may get the re-call before Grissom gets one.
  5. We have the righty line-up in place. Too bad no Bregman. R Romy 1B L Anthony RF R Refsnyder DH R Narvaez C R Story SS L Duran LF R Rafaela CF R Eaton 3B S Sogard 2B
  6. I'm more than fine trading DHam, yesterday or last week. I'm sure some team does want him. He'd be snapped up in a minute, if DFA'd. The return is going to be a single A player or AAAA type nobody, IMO. Sure, let's trade for a nobody who might have a sliver of faraway hope. I'm not against that idea, but I'm also not going to kid myself that trading him is going to make a difference- now or 5 years from now. Trading Chapman, Gio, Buehler, Wilson, Refsnyder and even Bregman, if it looks like we can't extend him, WILL bring back value. DHam, Grissom, Eaton, Wong, and a few others- likely not. Story and Yoshida might bring something back, if we pay 60-80% of their contracts or add prospects to the deal.
  7. I was going to point that out, too. We all knew losing Devers was going to make a major impact on our offense, especially when also knowing Bregman was not going to be back, anyday soon. I know June trades are rare, but I kind of expected we had a second trade line-up to at least partially address the hit to our offense (like Hoskins or even a lesser bat.) At this point, I'm on the verge of jumping on the sell wagon's front seat. (Not yet, but I'm close.)
  8. I think most of us thought he was just plain awful, and then got injured (or was to start with, too.)
  9. Of course the lost season count on the final evaluation on what we got for $39M/2. I'm not discounting that. Of course, all GM see their moves viewed in hindsight. It's the nature of of their job. My point is this: I felt he signed a probable bad pitcher (in foresight) who ended up getting hurt (hindsight.) Now, I'm not so sure I and others were right on the foresight part.
  10. Well, when you say "no fault he got injured," then why still lay full blame on Brez? I'm not saying the signing worked out well, but our main beef was that not only did he sign a guy who got hurt, despite being one of the more healthier pitchers up to that point, but that he sucked and has sucked right before we signed him for that half season. That part may have changed. The part where the GM knows what pitchers are good or not. Richards was not good. Kluber was not good. They both stayed relatively healthy for their one year deals.
  11. LOL, 100 Jordans wouldn't get the job done.
  12. Could the bad rap we gave Brez on the Gio signing have been unfair? Let's hope the Buehler signing takes a turn for the good, real soon.
  13. It does get me wondering, if maybe we have an ace and just don't know it yet. We never though Houck, Crawford, Bello or Dobbins would amount to all that much. Maybe one of these kids that actually look real good will be the ace we need.
  14. Wow, I'm one of 6, too. (5 sisters!) My eldest sister was the valedictorian and our school and went on to Yale. My next sister went to Yale, too. I had some big heels to follow. My mom was from Germany and dreamed in 3 languages. None of us kids learned a language.
  15. There is scientific reasons why adults have a much harder time than children. Maybe because Devers is a "man-child" it should have been easier. LOL! My sister married a gut from Hong Kong and lived there for 22 years. She learned about 4 words.
  16. Not even Painter does that!
  17. Yup, and the answer to 2+2 = A.
  18. No, you never answered the actual question, and we know the situation presented in this case.
  19. Tolle today: 5 IP 1 Hit 1 ER 2 BB 9 K 1.80 ERA, now. Sandlin comes in the game as a RP: 4 IP 1 Hit 0 ER 2 BB 7 K 3.66 ERA. Wow, 16 Ks in 9 IP. The game is in the 1oth, now.
  20. You may be right, but what will he learn in 10 more weeks?
  21. This has nothing to do with my question, and I actually feel and said the same thing: It's not insubordination, if he was never told to play 1B. We don't know if he was asked/told or not. The point being made on this discussion is that it doesn't matter if Devers, Cora, you and the world think he's better at DH and not 1B. It's about should a player and manager do what their boss tells them to do, if they indeed were told to do whatever it is. Now, if your argument is that it was right for Nazi soldiers not to follow orders and not kill who they were told to kill, that's one thing, but you are not making a case for this being that type of situation that demands insubordination, if indeed either one of them was told to do play 1B or tell another to play 1B. (Again, we don't know.) We know you think Devers at 3B was your position for years, then you flipped to DH only and not 1B. It looks like Cora agreed. Nobody is disputing this or asking you your position on this. It's a different question. I'm not sure I can ever word it in a way you can understand the simple question being asked, so don't bother trying to answer it.
  22. My god! You keep missing the question, despite me telling you over and over. Being a good or bad choice is a fine question, but not the one I asked, like 3 times, now. Take it away from this issue. Is it okay or not for a manager to not do what his boss tells him to do? (Not that Cora did this.) You have not answered this question- only the question I'm not asking you is being answered over and over.
  23. It might take Chapman and Duran for Abel, and I'm not sure how proven he is, either. I'm fine with getting top prospect pitching- really, I am. If we are to be sellers, I'd rather sell for pitching than hitters. I'm just thinking we need another Crochet, and that is a winter type trade, not a deadline one. We could try to do both.
  24. It was great seeing Chris Murphy back on the mound. Better to see him do well.
