  1. Story went from being Bloom's worst signing (until Yoshida, of course) to now looking like the guy we thought or hoped we'd be getting from day one onwards. Between he and Gio, we have two guys that should be in the voting for MLB Comeback Player of the Year Award.
  2. Okay, I'm out of the game thread until the game is over. Carry on...
  3. An old friend of mine, who was a great baseball player and even better softball player as he got older, used to tell me, "a pitcher is only as good as his last start." There is some truth to that, and Gio had me worried, that last start. I feel better, now.
  4. RBIs since June 1st: 29 Story in 150 PAs 26 Duran 143 22 Abreu 1116 20 Romy 95 19 Rafaela 137 17 Anthony 150 15 Bregman 101 14 Lowe in 138 PAs 14 Narvaez + Wong 139 (19 Refsnyder+ Yoshida in 132)
  5. I'm not sure what 1Bman or 2Bman were available but not dealt at the deadline, but I'm curious who was. I did not see any 1Bman deals I felt strongly about us trying to offer more. They were mostly rentals. 2Bmen? I think the hope was Mayer could return.
  6. The thing about Casas is that he really should DH. He could be MLB's worst defensive 1Bman. His injury history indicates he could get hurt by sneezing, so the less he's out on the field, the better chance he stays healthy and hit .825-.875 or more.
  7. Doesn't sound like a TJS, as of yet.
  8. Gio needs to show his last start was just a hiccup... or not. Good to see Cora put Abreu up 5th and Toro 7th. (Next step: replace Toro.)
  9. Yup, .843 over his first 725 PAs in MLB. .653 in last 231 PAs since AuG 2024. (Still better than Toro & Lowe, of late.)
  10. Damn! What's Valera's injury?
  11. It's also about how old are your top players and how many years of control do they have? 26 Crochet- 6 years 21 Anthony -9 yrs 31 Bregman -1-3 years 24 Rafaela 6 yrs 28 Duran 3 26 Narvaez 5 26 Abreu 4 26 Bello 5 32 Story 2 37 Chapman 0 30 Giolito 0-1 29 Whitlock 1 22 Mayer 5 23 Campbell 9 27 Slaten 5 25 Dobbins 5 29 Crawford 3 28 Sandoval 1 29 Houck 2 (IL for 1) 28 Romy 3 34 Refsnyder 0 Look how few are under control beyond prime.
  12. .617 since a point in April, so it goes back farther.
  13. Apparently, he's near GG on D at SS, and he's hit okay, this year. He's ranked 2nd on soxprospects.com
  14. If Wong gets hurt or needs a rest, we needed the 3rd catcher. (I'm okay if the DFA Sanchez, today.)
  15. I'm not a fan of ZIPS, but I do agree Lowe has a better outlook. I think he's only 30.
  16. I do agree he has a higher ceiling for the remainder of 2025. I'm just cautioning the expectations. I've been on the Toro demotion train for weeks.
  17. Many teams have a handful of older players that bring up the average age, but with the Sox, almost all of our older players, except Chapman and refsnyder are not key players, and Ref is a short-side platoon guy. 37 Chapman (last year of control) 36 Hendriks (hardly knew ya) 37 Wilson (last year) 34 Refsnyder (last year) & Matz (rental) 32 Story (2 more years) 31 Bregman (opt out?) 31 Yoshida (2 more years) 30 Buehler (5th starter- last year) 30 Giolito (140 IP option trigger) 30 Weissert & Kelly 29 Houck, Wong & Whitlock
  18. .499 Lowe last 101 PAs/ .507 Toro in 102 PAs .617 Lowe last 398 PAs/.689 Toro in 2025 season (269 PAs) Am I missing something, other than a better career, beforehand?
  19. He's hitting worse than Toro, of late: .499 in last 26 games/101 PAs (July 11th>>>) .617 since April 23rd (398 PAs)
  20. Because narvaez was banged up and already at 730 innings, after not starting the year as the #1 catcher.
  21. Having such a small park keeps the Sox from ever having 40-50K, like some stadiums allow. People like to watch the Sox, in person and on TV. They are a money-making team.
  22. No. I wasn't talking about Ryan. When I made this same statement, you said something, like, "so we shouldn't have added a better SP'er pitcher, because we added them in winter."
