  1. (Note: I mistakenly said 2014 not 2015 in earlier posts.( Fair enough point, but it did look like Bogey improved in 2015, and I hoped it would continue. Maybe 2015 was a fluke. Who knows? I do think the fluctuation was more than say 25 to 30 HRs and then back to 25. UZR/150: -3.7 2014 +0.9 2015 -2.8 2016 -0.4 2017 DRS -9 2014 -1 2015 -10 2016 -6 so far in 2017 Widen the sample sizes somewhat: 2013-2015: 11th out of 24 and 15th out of 31 in UZR/150 at +1.0 -8 DRS in 2293 innings 2016-2017: 17th out of 27 in UZR/150 at -2.0 -16 DRS in 1938 innings I get your point about rankings depending on how good the other SSs are, but clearly Bogey was better defensively by a significant amount from 2013 to 2015, especially in DRS. While the UZR/150 numbers are pretty close, the sample sizes are large enough to show that no improvement has occurred, and a slight regression appears to have taken place on defense. One would expect a SS his age to get better over the last 2 years. He has not. .
  2. I'd say Rutledge is slightly ahead of Pablo right now, but he's still close enough to not want to DFA Pablo and then end up with Marreo, if Josh stumbles or gets hurt.
  3. I'm not sure about HRam. I was surprised to see Young DH vs a righty last night.
  4. It's a beautiful park, and you don't really get the sense that you are indoors. There's a huge window over the LF wall. Last night, they opened the roof after the game for a nice fireworks display. They do this every Friday night. They changed the CF area last winter. They took out the hill and flag pole, and they put in a dark green background for hitter to see better. Yes, it is a "hitter's park." They shortened CF. LF is just 315 feet with a higher-than-normal wall. I really like the park.
  5. I totally agree, but the contract is here and it is large. With Rutledge and Marrero as our only other options until Sox management gives the green light to Devers, I don't see the point in DFA'ing Pablo right now. There's a tiny sliver of hope remaining for Pablo, which is about the same slive of hope I see for Rutledge or Marrero giving us average #B play to close out the season or bridge us to the date Devers is given a shot. I also think that regardless of how dumb it sounds to pay $19M for a platoon DH, Pablo has a slightly larger sliver of hope of filling that role decently in 2018. It might be better than paying Pablo $19M to play elsewhere and paying someone else to DH for us next year. I know that taking up a roster space could out weigh anything he can give us next year, and I'm not saying he will or should be on the roster then or later this year, but as of right now. I'd keep him around a little while longer, at least.
  6. Opening Day: Pablito knocked in the go ahead run and scored later in the 5 run 5th inning of our 5-3 win. Game 2: Pablo walks in the 12th inning and comes in on Leon's 3-run walk-off. (Hard to give Pablo "credit" here, but still...) He almost won a game for us on April 7th (game 3). he hit a 3 run HR in the 8th to put us ahead 5-4, but Hembree coughed it up in the bottom of the 8th. April 11: Pablo puts us up 1-0 vs BAL with a sac fly. Later as we are up 2-1, he walks to start a big inning that allowed us to pull ahead 5-1. April 16: Sox aree down 4-2 to the Rays in the 4th. Pablo ties it up with a two-run jack. We go on to win 7-5. April 18 ina n 8-7 win vs TOR: Pablo goes 3 of 4 and one single put us up 6-3 in the 5th. Later, he singles and scores to put us up 8-4. We hang on to win 8-7. Despite missing the last 7 days of April, Pablo still led the team in April HRs with 3 and was 1 RBI away from being second on the team in April RBIs with 10. May 31 vs CWS: Rutledge ties us up 1-1 and Pablo follows with a single to put us up 2-1. He later scores on a dbl by Vaz and we win 4-1. He almost helped us win on June 2nd vs BAL. Down 2-0, he hits a solo blast, but we lose 3-2.
  7. I'll be at the next two games, too. Let's sweep these guys! One at a time, of course.
  8. Usually, nobody is "as good as they look" when doing well and "as bad as they look" when doing poorly.
  9. Porcello and Price need to come to pitch as well.
  10. Only 5 teams have more wins than the Sox. 3 are in the NL West. One is NOT the Yankees.
  11. Wow. I'm assuming Kimbrell is first.
  12. ERAs for RP'ers are tainted by the fact that they come into games with one or two outs sometimes. That greatly improves their chances at not allowing their own runners to score.
  13. See what happens to teams who lose their top starters? We lost Price, Wright and ERod for longer than the Stos lost Keuchal and McCullers, and we are close to being in first place.
  14. Hell, I could live with Rutledge. For a short term, yeah, but I don't think I could say that about a team entering the playoffs.
  15. We still have about 6 weeks to the deadline. By then, we'll know a little more about the Rutledge-Pablo situation and maybe Devers might be ":deemed ready" by that time as well. I'm not for giving up much for any 3B rental.
  16. Nobody ever did or will. You don't lose Papi and stay even by adding Moreland and a full season from Beni. Many felt we'd still end up top 3 or 5, but that's a far cry from scoring 100 more runs than just about everyone else as we did last year. I still think we might finish top 5, but time is running out on that projection. It wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong.
  17. No, the bats did no "wake up". We hit the ball hard for some outs, and that Astros had some good shifts and defensive placements last night. I was wrong and should avoid short sample size projections. The Astros are showing the world what happens when starting pitchers get hurt. They went from looking invincible to so-so seeminly overnight.
  18. Some recent news... Trevor Plouffe traded to Rays fo cash considerations. John Farrell was "ecstatic" over a 33 pitch session by ERod. He may be back earlier than many of us thought. Tyler Thornburg will undergo surgery to alleviate thoracic outlet syndrome. Thornburg, will miss the entire season. Several pitchers have had this surgery: some bounce back: some don't so well. The team expects Thornburg to be ready for the 2018 season. We'll have two more years of team control after this season. The Red Sox announcedthat they’ve placed left-hander Brian Johnson on the 10-day disabled list due to a left shoulder impingement. Sox have selected the contract of right-hander Austin Maddox from Triple-A Pawtucket. Southpaw Roenis Elias has been shifted from the 10-day DL to the 60-day DL in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Maddox. Jim Callis also lauds the Red Sox for the talent they secured in rounds three through 10. On the farm... Jake Romanski had three hits and Rafael Devers roped his 17th double of the year and drove in a run. Mike Olt reached three times with two hits, a walk, a run, and an RBI.
  19. I expected a high-scoring game tonight. I'm glad Pom came to pitch tonight. Nice to see him last to the 7th. I'll be at the next two games as well. GOOoooooOOOOO Sox !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. I feel he is too, but I trust Sox management on these types of decisions.
  21. Kelly threw smoke tonight. I joked with my friend that he struck a guy out with a 97 mph "change-up".
  22. Yes, it seems like when he slumps, the power stays there, so at least his few hits are big ones.
  23. I think we have about $8-9M to "play with", so that's about $24-27M of yearly contracts we can take on (.33 x $27M=$9M). That's two players making about $13M each or 3 players making $9M each. I think the main issue is not going to be how big is the salary (dump) we get from someone. It's going to be about how good of prospects we'll be willing to give up and how good the players we seek will be. I'm fine with trades like the Ziegler one last year, but normally, I'm against trades for top end rentals.
  24. Just got back from the game. Pom Pom looked impressive. Mookies blast was a laser. Big win to start the series. Keep it up, guys!!!
  25. No HRam. Hmmmm. I'm leaving for the game soon. GO SOX !!!!!
