  1. People who still use Flg% to rank defenders are just plain wrong. Sorry, but it's true.
  2. I've never been abig fan if FIP and xFIP, but you're right, those numbers are very similar as are his ERA- and ERA+ numbers.
  3. Moncada couldn't feidl and he was promoted to AA then MLB in the blink of an eye. He has started 171 games at 3B in the minors. If he's that bad, keep him at Salem, and let him learn 1B. I know he's 5-10 or 5-11, but if he can't play 3B, then what? Also, can't a player learn defense at AA? I thought thatw aqs why Devers isn't in AAA.
  4. Let's hope so. On Porcello, agreed, he's always had a high WHIP driven by more hits allowed, but 1.51 (2017) and 1.36 (2015) are both higher than his Detroit numbers which were pre-prime years. Porcello's WAR numbers: 2009: 1.3 2010: 1.7 2011: 2.2 2012: 2.8 2013: 2.9 2014: 2.8 (pretty steady around 2.8 entering prime years) with Boston: 2015: 1.7 2016: 5.2 2017: 1.4 (surprisingly high)
  5. Some good reads at soxprospects.com... Tanner Houck: http://news.soxprospects.com/2017/06/red-sox-select-pitcher-tanner-houck.html Cole Brannen: http://news.soxprospects.com/2017/06/red-sox-select-cole-brannen-with-their.html Pod Cast on Draft Night: http://news.soxprospects.com/2017/06/podcast-ep-122-draft-night-1-reaction.html Best available 2nd day Players: http://news.soxprospects.com/2017/06/best-available-players-day-two.html
  6. Chavis went 3 for 3 with another HR last night. That's 12 at home ( a season record for such a small park, and they're just about at the half way point!.) Is it time to move Devers to AAA and Chavis to AA?
  7. His 2015 and 2017 seasons are worse than the pitcher he was when we got him.
  8. ...and both had that unquantifiable "clubhouse value" the Sox apparently so sorely need.
  9. Maybe getting Flores might make us slightly more comfortable trading one of our 3 ML or ML ready catchers.
  10. Nothing too surprising. Nothing I'm going to get too excited about. About what I expected. I hope we find some gems this year.
  11. Maybe Pablito is like Kevin Millar or Ryan Dempster.
  12. Maybe it's not "the right way", but to me there seem to some be "wrong ways" at looking at baseball (stats).
  13. So, Mookie's OPS goes up 30 points in one game (.807 to .837). Beni's OPS creeps towards .800 (up to .769). Porcello remains a huge question mark. The pen carried us... again! 5 batters got on base 2 or more times, and another hit the big game tying HR. Pablo got a big hit. The "hope" flickers.... We're 14 and 7 in our last 21 games. Keep it up!!!
  14. Thanks, harmony. I just ordered it online.
  15. I used to turn the sound down and listen on the radio, but now that I watch most games on DVR and fast forward commercials, I just keep the sound off and listen to music.
  16. If a player sustains it and exists, let me know.
  17. Big hits by Pedey and Pablito! Looks like Mookie is heating up as usual this time of year. Maybe a big emotional win like this will light the fire that seems to be missing these days.
  18. It appears so.
  19. With all due respect.... When has Theo ever dealt away several stars for prospects? What handbook are you talking about?
  20. Rutledge and Marrero are not the answer. Even a healthy Holt of Hernandez were not great options for a long term 3Bman. As bad as Pablo has looked, the fact that he is in better shape than maybe even when with SF, I still think he represents our best hope for having a decent FT 3Bman. It's a sad reality, but until Devers is given a shot, I'm not for DFA'ing Pablo right now (as a Globe writer called for today). Rutledge has looked good recently, but he's at best a good back-up.
  21. Rebuilding team aren't looking for Abad and probably not Marrero either. Maybe some mix of Ockimey, Chatham, Longhi, Chavis, Larkin or Beeks might be enough.
  22. An intentional walk boosts the Late & Close OPS immensely.
  23. The Sox are currently far away from "hoarding prospects". We traded away a bunch of top prospects. You want to trade away the rest of the farm? We hear praise on what Cashman did, and now some want us to do the opposite of what he just did. Here are the prospects we recently traded away in order of their top soxprospects.com ranking: 1 Yoan Moncada 3 Anderson Espinoza 3 Manuel Margot 3 Garin Cecchini 5 Michael Kopech 6 Javier Guerra 7 Luis Aj Basabe 9 Mauricio Dubon 11 Sean Coyle 12 Travis Shaw (not a prospect when traded) 12 Wendell Rijo 13 Logan Allen 13 Pat Light 17 Luis Ax Basabe 20 Carlos Asuaje 21 Victor Diaz 24 Josh Pennington 30 Aaron Wilkerson 40 Jose Almonte 43 William Cuevas If this is "hoarding prospects", then I'm the King of England! We have a lot of lower tier prospects that have seemingly moved up this year, but we only have 3 guys that are close to being blue chippers, and we look to have a strong need in the 3 positions they play: 1B: Travis 3B: Devers SP: Groome I wouldn't trade any of these three.
  24. These were the reasons I wanted Wright as our 5th starter and Pom as our "long man". Too bad Wright got hurt.
