    HRam is our HR leader, so I can understand him being placed 4th or 5th. JF was probably hoping against hope, he'd get hot. I still think JBJ should have been given a longer look in the higher slots. HRam has had 16 starts beyond the 5 slot. Almost all were after we acquired Nunez and Devers. My guess is hardly any were to give JBJ a shot at the 4 - 5 slot. Like I said, there's not much difference between anyone on this team, but I thought waited too long to move some players down and give others a chance. It's not a big issue with me, but I so think it's significant.

    I agree, but how many times do you hear an announcer say, "That was a fitting way for this team to win (or lose): they've been doing that all year long." I'm not going to harp on this issue anymore. I've already said more than I ever expected I would. You guys know my feelings, and I hope I never will never speak about this issue again.

    I think 3 years would get him back here. I want him back, if his contract doesn't limit us from improving our clean-up slot upgrade.

    I still expect greatness from Betts starting this year, so yeah, I expect great things next year, too.

    He has more PAs batting 9th, but he has plenty batting 6th. His numbers are too good to bat 9th so much, especially on a team hurting for hitting and especially power. .854 in 364 PAs batting 6th .773 in 749 PAs batting 9th. 2017 OBP .387 Pedey .360 Beni .341 Betts .337 Vaz .333 JBJ .333 Bogey .330 Moreland .320 HRam SLG .445 Betts .443 Beni .434 Moreland .428 JBJ .423 HRam .420 Vaz .419 Pedey .396 Bogey There's not much variance on either list, but JBJ has been better than HRam in OBP and SLG, and yet HRam almost always bats 4th or 5th.

    Surprisingly, he's actually done better on the road than at Fenway since joining the Sox. .905 to .869 I really like Nunez, but this year will only be his second year with over 500 PAs. That makes it a little harder to project going forward at age 30-31.

    Yes, his highest value was as a projectable catcher. Now, he's pretty much not that.

    No, but apparently I'm one of just a couple posters who even thinks we've had more than our fair share of mental blunders this year and that chances are higher than any of us wish they'd be that one could happen at the worst time imaginable.

    Well said. It's not going to be easy, but then again, it never was. Things have gotten more difficult for big spending teams, but I also think we did very well with international signings this year. I thought that would be one area we'd have trouble with the rule changes. I like the trades we made to boost bonus money. We're off to a better start than I expected last winter. I hope our picks flourish and we can keep this up, because I do not think we can spend large to fill too many needy slots.

    Price wasn't the only good FA starter available that winter. Yes, give Lin a shot. He can't do much worse than Holt has done this year. I'd like to see his OF skills at some point without putting a game at risk.

    Last year, we were 82-64 after 146 games. One worse than this year, but were 1 game into an 11 game winning streak before going on to lose 5 of our next 6 (8 of 9 if you count the sweep by CLE). Can we match last year's 11-5 finish?

    I'm a huge Vaz fan and always have been. I wanted to trade Swihart away long ago. I agree on him being able to hit .280, and feel his power may improve over time. However, .280 is not .336, which is Vaz's 2nd half BA. That's what I meant by "coming back to earth". Now, .280 can mnean hitting .336 some stretches and .206 in others. I'm fine with that, too. Just give me .280/.330/.420/.750 every year and I'll be super happy. BTW, I love to see him hitting righties (.746) better than before. I can see us using Leon as just one pitcher's caddie next year and allowing Vaz to catch 4 out of 5 starts.

    We were only talking long term, and we were only talking either/or- not about both teams have long term issues. I don't feel it's dumb to take either side of the choice, but I do think most experts would say the Yankee long term outlook (3 or 4 years and beyond) is at least slightly better than ours. I also feel our short term outlook (0-3 years) looks better.

    Who knows? I certainly hope so, and why not start the "bounce back" now? Imagine how much better we'd be, if he would pitch like 2016?

    And we don't? We got Price to '22. Erod to '21. Wright to .20 Sale to '19 Porcello to '19 Pom to '18. Groome to whenever. NYY Tanaka maybe to '20 (rather have him than Price.) Severino, Green and Montgomery and others haven't even reached arb years yet. Sonny Gray to '19 Sabathia, Pineda, Garcia -last year We got Groome; they got Chance Adams, Justus Sheffield and more. I'm not saying you have to love their SP'ing long term than ours, but I'm just having a hard time with calling someone dumb for liking their outlook better. We have Beni and Devers pre- arb. Betts and JBJ go to 2020 (3 years) not 4+. They have Judge, Sanchez and Frazier pre-arb (plus Torreyes for 4 more years- 3 arb).

    I love being aggressive and don't mind some over aggressiveness. I'm okay with running into outs. I really feel I am being very discriminating. I'm not counting aggressiveness or slight aggressiveness when I am talking about excessive bonehead plays. I've seen more than I ever have with a Sox fan, which includes the Wendell "send 'em all" Kim era. I realize I could be wrong. I never kept a running tab. I can't prove what I believe. I will say, I think we've done much better in the last month or so. Maybe JF has knocked some sense into the team without the media catching on. Maybe the players smartened up by themselves. I really hope we don't end up losing this season on a major blunder at the end.
