I'd keep Betts in RF for all 81 home games, if possible, but I can see using JD in RF at Yankee Stadium with Betts in CF.

I can't see anyone else starting game 1, except Sale... even an 80% Sale.

Bench bat for who? Phillips and Travis aren't better hitters than anyone but our catchers, and we can't really PH for our catchers without 3 of them. I guess we can take our chances and PH once late in a game and hope the 2nd catcher does not get hurt, but having Swihart & Vaz on the roster makes sense. Vaz is the personal caddy for Porcello and Eovaldi. Leon for Sale & Price. Swi letws us PH for a catcher once a game with no fears and maybe twice in a pinch.

I'm glad he chose to go with just 11 pitchers. I've been making that case for many weeks. There is no need to worry about options for the playoffs. They don't matter. I see a number of reasons to go with 3 catchers: 1) Swihart can also play 1B and OF. 2) We can PH for our catchers 1-2 times every game. 3) We shouldn't need to PH for anyone not a catcher, except maybe for Kinsler or the platoon situation at 1B. 4) We have no great defenders on the bench that make a big difference as late inning replacements, except maybe at 3B, if Devers is in the game. Even then, is the upgrade to Nunez better than the upgrade of PH'ing for Leon? 5) Since Swihart, Nunez, Holt and Peacre can play multiple positions, so the 3rd catcher really doesn't hurt the rest of the bench much. 6) With 5 dayds off before game 1, and 2 days off in the 7 day series, we shouldn't need 12 pitcher.

I think he'll average around .300 to .310 over the next 8 years. I can see his OBP nearing .390-.400. 15-25 HRs seems about right.

Sometimes players just go through tough stretches. Maybe he failed to adjust to something pitchers found out about him. Maybe, he just stopped pulling balls he should have pulled. Maybe he has an injury that has been kept quiet. Maybe, maybe... Maybe he busts out of the slump this October.

I lived in Milwaukee from 1967 to 1971. We were two blocks from the old County Stadium. The Packers used to play a game there every year. I became a Brewer fan when the Seattle Pilots moved there. I was a big Tommy Harper fan (hit 30-30 in his first year in MIL). When Harper was traded to the Sox at about the same time we moved to Maine. I became a Sox fan. I'd love to see MIL-BOS in the WS.

If they play a 3 game series, it would mean the teams without a play-in series would have to wait a week or more to play. That's not fair either. We can't go to 8 teams per league, as more teams would make the playoffs than would sit. It's either go to 4 teams per league or have a play-in game. It may look like this is not fair to the Yanks with 100 wins, but think about all the times 95+ win teams didn't even make the playoffs, including the Sox in 1977 and 1978

Never losing 4 in a row is amazing! 5 positions with an OPS over .825 and only 2 below .711. 5 batting slots over .796 and only 2 below .684. .854 OPS in High Leverage. Pitching? Home and Away Opps against both between .695 and .703. .649 OPS against in High Leverage.

I'm impressed with the jump growth on offense from Bogey. We really needed upticks from a few of our players after 2017's near total downturns. (Only Vaz went up last year.) It's also nice to see JBJ put together a solid 4 months after having a month where he hit the ball hard with little success. I think this has been his longest stretch of consistently good hitting. If Beni can bounce back, we're looking at 5 solid hitters (Betts, JD, Bogey, Beni & JBJ) and some good supporting hitters like Pearce, Devers and Holt to go along with those 5. Maybe Moreland, Kinsler and a catcher can contribute here and there, too.

I'd love to have Eovaldi back but not at the cost he will get. DD has done well picking up players mid season. I'd go with what we have and make changes, if needed. In season DD pick-ups: 2018 Eovaldi Pearce Kinsler Phillips 2017 Nunez Fister Boyer Reed R Davis 2016 Pomeranz Ziegler F Abad A Hill

I'm talking recent 4 month sample size. I'm talking a .600 second half OPS this year, .736 last year and .713 career. Plus, I didn't say I'd definitely bench him. Holt has hardly played 1B all year, and Pearce has a long record of not doing well vs righties. I'd probbaly start Moreland, but I'd bat him 7th behind JBJ and in front of Kinsler and our catcher.

Depends on how you break up the sample sizes. Before the 7.2 IP sample size came this: June 1st to September 1st: 32 IP 34H 18 BB 5.34 ERA Yes, within that sample, from 7/28 to 9/1, he had a 1.08 ERA in 16.2 IP, but he still let up 20 H + BB in that stretch. He's been very hot & cold, and your point is well taken, that when he is hot, he's better than Workman and others.
