  1. Vegas speaks... The Red Sox are favorites to advance against the Yankees in the ALDS, coming in at -145. While that’s not a big surprise, considering the Sox won 108 games this season, it speaks to the pressure they’re up against this month. Failing to advance to the ALCS for the third straight year would be a colossal underachievement, and likely lead to pressure being applied to Dave Dombrowski. This season is the apex for the Red Sox, as crucial members of their core will become free agents for the next four years, beginning with Craig Kimbrel this winter. Their roster likely won’t be this good again for a long time. In terms of World Series odds, the Red Sox are second, at 15/4. The defending World Series champion Astros are first at 7/2, and the Yankees check in at 6/1.
  2. I hope they're not keeping Pom around for another reason.
  3. Maybe it might be harder to hit Sale after seeing knuckleballs. It seems like he's looking to help Sale out, when one could also argue Wright coming in after Sale is just as effective, if not more, since Wright probably needs more of a boost than Sale... in theory. I also like Sale>Wright>Kimbrel more than Wright>Sale> Kimbrel. Wright could, in theory, boost Kimbrel.
  4. They might have more to lose.
  5. I thought it was April Fools Day.
  6. Okay. I missed the post he was responding to. My bad.
  7. Cause he's as good as Happ, right?
  8. Let 'em try. Probably only players who know they can never make the bigs without juicing would take the risk. Some may try new, undetectable methods.
  9. LOL. I guess you can never bring in Wright after 5 or 6 innings, if the score is 0-0 or 2-2. The game is totally unwinnable.
  10. All the signs pointed to Eovaldi. We used ERod in relief at the end of the season.
  11. Baseball's not picking the top prospects. But, no I don't think they have a clear and established policy. I'd ban a player for life. That would likely stop it.
  12. How is a 0-0 game in the first inning "unwinnable?"
  13. Yes, you guys made some key additions, but you also saw this... The loss of... Adam Warren 2.35 in 57 IP J Montgomery 3.88 in 155 IP M Pineda 4.39 in 96 IP ...and big declines by... Severino 2.98 to 3.39 S Gray 3.72 to 4.90 C Green 1.83 to 2.50 Robertson 1.03 to 3.23 C Shreve 3.77 to 4.26 Khalne from great to sucky
  14. No, but I wouldn't have been surprised if the A's won 8-7. They certainly had several chances.
  15. I have directly and indirectly.
  16. Sometimes the best choices don't work out. I think Melvin made the right choice, under the circumstances.
  17. I could be nice to see Wright come in for a clean 7th & 8th or earlier, if needed.
  18. $5.5M more a year just in new taxes, plus he may cause a drop in our draft slot number.
  19. I didn't realize others rated VTek highly. I thought he was under-rated as people pointed to his low CS% (and high WP/PBs for a couple years with Wake) and called him a poor defender.
  20. Actually, he right near the bottom. Would you want us to sign him for $35.5M/3 this winter? That's what he'll cost on the luxury budget, and there's no going back, once we put him back on the 40 man roster. His $10.2M lux tax number would prevent us from getting someone else or keeping someone we want to keep. I know you poo-poo the idea that Henry has a spending limit, but he does. Now, one can argue that the difference is just the tax, since Henry's paying him anyways, but by your reasoning, we'll be over the $40M max line every year of Castillo's contract, so we'd be paying an additional tax of 45%. That means instead of paying $12M a year for Castillo's last 3 years, we'd pay him $17.5 x 3. $5.5M more in tax for 3 years. Would I sign Castillo to $16.5M/3? NO! No matter how you slice and dice, the answer is always NO!
  21. Picking up OF depth is not a hard thing to do- off season or in-season. We've had pretty good luck with in-season pick-ups from DMac to Podsednik, although Raj Davis was a bit of a bust.
  22. You think steroid effects ware off that quickly?
  23. Tell that to the Price busters.
